 “Excuse me for a while

Turn a blind eye

With a stare caught right in the middle

Have you wondered for a while

I have a feeling deep down

You’re caught in the middle?”

Chapter One- The Beginning

It all started 10 years ago. I lived in a small town just outside of Brisbane called Harbrooke. This town was far from any ordinary town. Especially for an average eight year old girl. Most people think mythical creatures are just a myth, but for this girl it’s damn true!

At the moment I’m staying with my Aunt Kathy in a town called Maryville. I’ve been with her since my Father was killed in a car crash ten years ago. Only in the last few months did my Aunt Kathy tell me about my Father and what happened to him. The more time I spent with my Aunt the more things I learnt. She told me I had a gift, but beats me what it is as she didn’t tell me specifically what it was. Although it took some before I actually believed what she was saying was true… but seriously if your aunt or parent or whoever came up to you right now and said ‘You have a very important gift, that will one day protect you and those around you..’… Would you believe them?? I definitely didn’t, I thought she was crazy!

That was until I met them… my supposed brothers she had told me about.

'Knock, knock'. “There’s someone at the door for you….well not exactly one someone it’s someone’s" My Aunt Kathy said after she opened the door. I got up from my desk and walked over to her. “Do you know who it is?” I asked.

"No, but i thought you would" she replied as she walked out of my room. Just as i was about to open the door i got a strange chill up my spine and as i reached for the door it got worse. When i opened the door, there in front of me were three males roughly the same age as me. "Can i help you?" I asked.

"Caroline?" the boy in front asked.

"Yeah… what do you want?" I questioned.

“Here” The boy in front said as he handed me an envelope. I opened it to see a letter that was addressed to me.

It read:

My Dear Caroline,

Words cannot describe how much i wish I could see the beautiful girl you are today, but I hope one day soon I will be able to see you with my own eyes.

I am writing this letter to you because they are coming for me, and will eventually come for you and your brothers. I hope to dear god it is you’re Brothers that have delivered this letter to you, because you’re going to need their help very soon.

You’re Brothers may not look like much but they can protect you and you can protect them from what may come which is why you must stay with them.

It’s too dangerous now for you to stay with your aunt Kathy.

I’m sorry that you were all split up but it was to protect you all.

I love you Caroline. Good Luck!

“My Mother was killed in a car accident 13 years ago” I said still looking down at the letter. I looked up to see them all watching me. I noticed they all had similar features.

“We can explain everything… Just not right now” said the tallest one in front.

“Okay…” I replied.

“I’m Paul” said the tall one. He had brown hair the same colour as mine. His hair was cut short at the sides and long and spiked at the top. He had green eyes, tall and muscular which was everything my friend ‘Anna’ wanted in a guy.

“I’m Alec” the boy on the right of Paul said. He looked like Paul but had short black hair and blue eyes.

“And I’m Chase” said the other guy who was on the left side of Paul. He was just like Paul and Alec except he had silver hair and brown eyes.

“Don’t worry; you haven’t met Cooper, Dylan, Nick and Benji yet” he said with a grin on his face.

My Aunt was beside me now with a suitcase and some bags, she then handed them to the boys.

“You take care of her now boys” she said with a serious look on her face, which was a first since I had never seen her with a serious look in the whole 10 years I’ve been with her.

“Ah, what! She wasn’t serious was she?!” I thought to myself.

“Yeah she was” said a voice in my head. I turned to look at the boys who were now retreating to the driveway… with my stuff.

“You coming?” said the voice in my head.

"Sweetie, it’s for your own good. You’ll get along fine with them. I... I love you” she said then kissed my forehead and ushered me after them.

I walked around the side of the house to see Paul, Alec and Chase talking to four other guys which I assumed were Benji, Nick, Cooper and Dylan.

“You guessed right” said the voice again.

They all split up when they saw me the four guys got into one jeep and Paul, Alec and Chase went to the other. Alec motioned for me to follow and opened the door for me.

“Sorry but its gunna be a long drive” Alec said before he shut my door. Paul was driving, Alec was in the passenger seat fiddling with the radio and I was in the backseat with Chase for the whole hour and forty minutes. I occupied my time by looking around the surprisingly clean jeep, then looking out the window at the scenery before drifting off to sleep.

After what seemed like hours I was woken up by Chase who was shaking me.

“Common, we’re home” he said before getting out. The others were already out of the car and we’re talking to an older gentlemen I didn’t recognise. As I climbed out of the car I looked up to see a mansion that could fit nearly 10 of my Aunts houses inside.

“What… so who’s gunna tell her?” said a hushed voice. The bickering then went on for a couple of minutes before they stopped whispering; they then turned and stared at me for a while. That was until they pushed the older gentlemen forward and they all walked in different directions. Some to the car and some to the house.

"Hello Caroline. I’m uncle Jacob, but you can call me Jacob, uncle Jacob.. whatever you like” he said with a smile. One of the boys walked past with some of my bags and nudged Jacob as he walked past.

“Oh, right. Silly me. Caroline, I’m afraid I have some bad news” as he said that I could help but know what had happened. I’d had a bad feeling from the moment we left my Aunts house.

“She’s gone isn’t she?” I said looking down at the ground.

“I...I’m sorry” Jacob said.
