It’s Saturday and it’s Zoe’s turn to look after auntie Kalanda. I think its best that I look after uncle K on my own, he isn’t always mental he does have some days where he is somewhat normal. “So it’s a good day.” I said to him, he smiles on these days which make me happy.
“I’m sorry I put you girls through this, you should not be doing this every single day.” I hate when he says that, I really don’t mind looking after him.
“Well I don’t mind, that’s what family is for.” I said smiling, but he looked at me seriously.
“You know I don’t hate Zoe right?” I laughed a little.
“Yeah of course, she knows that too.” Then I heard a faint cry come from upstairs, it sounded like Zoe. “I’ll be right back.” I sprinted up the stairs and saw Zoe outside auntie Kalanda’s room. “Zoe.” I said getting teary.
“She’s not breathing.” I pushed her out of the way of the door and ran in the room. I looked at her lifeless body, but she looked peaceful she could’ve been sleeping. I rushed to her side and put my hand over her mouth. Zoe was right, she wasn’t breathing.
“Zoe call doctor Johnson, make sure uncle Kalanda doesn’t come up here.” She left the room and went downstairs; I looked back at my auntie. I didn’t fight my tears; I just let them escape my eyes. “You’ll be okay now auntie K, if you see my mum...your sister, tell her we love her and we miss her.” I touched her head and moved her hair out of her face, I kissed her forehead and covered her with a blanket. “Sleep well.” I turned around and Zoe was there, crying.
“What are we going to do?” she said, I looked back at my auntie.
“Help uncle Kalanda get through this, remember our promise?” she walked closer.
“Always stand by our family.” She said and held up her pinkie and I held up mine.
“Stand by each other.” We connected our pinkies and the doctor walked in. “Thanks for coming.” I walked up and hugged him.
“Well I wasn’t going to leave you girls.” He walked over to her body. “We are going to remove the body, you girls should be with your uncle.” Zoe and I nodded and went downstairs, uncle K had his head in his hands.
“Uncle K.” I knelt beside him and hugged him. “I’m sorry.” He was crying or in shock, he just nodded.
“She’s fine, she will be fine.” He still thinks he will wake up and see her tomorrow morning.
“I’ll be right back.” I walked upstairs to my room and cried.
Jessica has been in her room for a while; I’m going to make sure she is okay. “Hey uncle I’m going to check on Jessica.” He grunted and I walked out of the room. I knock on her door, but she doesn’t answer. “Jessica, can I come in?” Still no answer so I open the door and she’s not there. “Jess?” see a note on her bed and pick it up, it read Zoe on the front. I opened the note and it read...
I know we had a promise, but I can’t do this anymore. I’ve left and I will never come back, I’m so sorry please understand.
I dropped the note and collapsed on the floor. I can’t believe she would do this to me, how could she? After all she said to me, how could she think doing this is okay? I can’t believe this.
