Ambriel was staring at the form of her sleeping friend. It was just about midnight she could tell by the moon and where it was placed in the sky. When Ambriel had met Naomi, she had been a thief and a killer. She had a past that wasn’t pretty, her sister was murdered and her parents had sold her to slavers.
Ambriel had understood immediately what it felt like to be without parents. “Naomi, I’m so grateful we met.” A whisper lost to the night air that surrounded them. It was Ambriel’s fifth birthday but in the other room of their tiny cottage Ambriel could hear her parents yelling. That day her father left her mother following blindly behind. Now at seventeen she’d already lived a life she didn’t want to remember. She’d barely survived having only water to live off of for a year.
She’d been found by an evil clan and trained to be a killer. “Stop thinking about the past you’re changing it making it better.” She just couldn’t believe those words. The sun was coming up and along with it was Ares god of war. “Good morning my love.” I stare at him angrily before shaking Naomi awake. “What do you want Ares.” He smiles “Your hand in marriage.” “No, I’m not looking to get married anytime soon.” His smile fades away.
Naomi who I’ve been training gets up and helps me start getting our things together. We were out of food and not far from the next village to get food and try helping others. “Ares steps in front of me when I stand up to fetch my horse. “Ambriel, please I love you.” Interrupting him I say “No, you don’t know what love is.” He disappears in a flash of light.
While walking Naomi asks “So, what was it that made you a warrior.” We stop. “I can show you.” We sit under a tree for shade then closing our eyes I conjure up the memories I place my hand on her to her head and instantly every past detail, every feeling, goes into her head.
“Stop!” she yells I take my hands away she’s seen it all felt it all. “Oh, I’m so sorry.” I see tears welling up in her eyes. “I’ll let you see my past soon.” She says. We get up and continue our walk to the village where we had no idea what was going to happen. It’s starting to rain when we enter the village.
