I never really sat down and enjoyed being with my dad for a very long time.  My dad left the room and went out back to the deck and I followed him out.

“Hey” I said and smiled and he smiled back at me.

“What’s on your mind?” I asked him and sat next to him on the porch swing.

He swung his arm around my shoulder like old times and he swung the swing with his feet.

“Is something wrong daddy?” I asked him.

“Darling, I left Xandra because I needed to work for you and her and it’s just all different when I moved here.  I’ve never felt this happy since I was with you guys back in Penelope.  I don’t know what I’ll do without you Ree” He told me and I smiled.

“I don’t know what I’ll do without you too dad.  You don’t know how much I’ve missed you” I told him and I hugged him.

“I missed you so much too darling” He told me and I smiled.

“Dad, why’d mom divorce you?” I asked him.

“We were happy but your mother needed someone different.  She needed someone who understood her and I guess I didn’t, I mean Alec is perfect for her.  They make the great couple me and your mom always wanted and I’m happy for her.  Ariana, some people were just not meant to be” He told me and I stopped smiling and thought about my relationship with Michael.

“Dad, do you think me and Mike were meant to be?” I asked my dad.

“Sweetie Mike and you have been a couple since you guys first met when you were kids and now it’s official.  You guys have come a long way to be where you two are at right now.  I think you guys fit perfectly” He told me and I smiled.

“But people were meant to be but sometimes not meant to be together” I told him.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks love.  It matters what you think and feel” He told me.

“What if I told you I did the stupidest thing I can think of before I left?” I asked him thinking of the night I left Penelope.

“I figured, it isn’t stupid if you really love the person and from the way you look at Mike, I’d call it love” He told me.

“How do you and Xandra know these things?” I asked him.

“We felt the same way once and it’s a parents instinct” He told me.

“Are you mad at me that I did it?” I asked him.

“It’s not easy to take in Ree but no I’m not mad.  I’d probably be pissed right about now but I can’t be mad at you for making a choice with someone you love and I made that same choice but mine was a mistake and we all learn don’t we?” He asked me and I smiled.

“Some just learns slowly” I replied and he laughed in agreement.

“I can tell you’ve been talking to your mother recently, I’m guessing you told her?” He asked me.

“I had too; you know I can’t lie to you three.  Mom laughed at me and said that she would have done the same then she said you better not be pregnant or I’ll rip both your heads off” I told my dad and he laughed.

“I knew it, that woman hasn’t changed a bit” He said and I laughed.

“The only different thing is that we’re all really happier then before” I said.

“That is true, things fall apart so better things fall together” He said and I smiled.

“Dad, I miss this.  Being able to talk to you and you always making me smile, it’s been too quiet at our house and Xandra has been really busy but we talk all the time but it’s really different without you there with us” I told him.

“I know sweetie but you know I did this for you right?” He asked me.

“I know daddy, I love you” I told him.

“I love you too my baby” He replied and kissed my forehead.

“I’m going to bed now, I’ll see you tomorrow” I told him and got up.

“Sleep tight” he said and I walked back into the house and into my bedroom.

I slipped under my covers and sighed then closed my eyes and fell asleep.  Things were changing and I think I like the change.

*Next Morning*

I got up and walked into the kitchen only to find a letter from my dad.

Dear Ariana,

Hey sweetie, I know I said I’ll see you this morning but Ray and I had to go in and help out.  I left some money in your purse, go out and enjoy California.  Marvin said he’ll pick you up at ten to take you out.  Please have fun Ree.

Love, Dad

“Marvin?” I called out into the living room.

“Yes ma’am?” He answered walking into the kitchen.

“Thank you, let me get dressed and we’ll hit the road” I told him and he smiled and I left him to shower and change.

When I was finished getting myself ready, I grabbed my camera and purse then I followed Marvin out to the car.

“So where do you want go?” I asked him.

“I’m the driver, where do you want to go?” He asked me and laughed.

“Well, take me wherever there is fun” I said and he drove.

“So how’s it here in Cali?” I asked him.

“Its fun but it’s different without you nagging me all the time to loosen up” He said and I laughed.

“I miss that too, so we’re going shopping and taking a whole bunch of pictures.  Sound good?” I asked him.

“Sounds good” He replied and we got ourselves ready and started.

At the end of the day we had fun, dad made number one on the selling charts and number one in school charts too.  It was good mixing the school together with the business because how can you learn when you’ve never tried it first hand?  Today was a good day and I went back to my house happy and felt relief off of my shoulders for once.  Finally a day of peace and sanity.
