I closed the meeting and then I had to run to my dad’s office to get my files.  Right when I entered his door his phone rang.

“SWAG Times, how may I help you?” I answered.

“You aren’t Aaron” The woman on the other line replied.

“No I’m not, what do you want?” I asked her getting really annoyed with her tone.

“Is he cheating on me?” She asked me.

“Woah, cheating? I’m his daughter you slut!” I screamed at her.

“Daughter? Oh yeah the child he left with that loser ex” She said.

“Talk about my mother like that again and I’ll make my hand reach through this phone, call this company again and I swear I’ll hunt you down” I said and hung the phone.

I was furious now.  I trashed my father’s office and I slammed the door behind me as I walked out.

“Ms. Hendricks, what’s the matter?” My secretary caught me and kept up with my pace.

“Did you know my dad was with someone else?” I asked her.

“No, I didn’t.  Why?” she asked me.

“Because she just finished talking with me” I told her.

“You should talk to your dad, it’s not like him to keep something like that from you” She told me.

“Thanks, I’ll call you later about my files” I told her.

“No problem, oh and I already downloaded the list of students you’ll be seeing tomorrow, it’s all set up and I had Ray set up your classroom if that’s alright?” She asked me.

“Thanks, Ray’s here?” I asked her.

“He signed in not too long ago” She told me.

“Thanks, I’m going to go and check him” I told her and she nodded her head then she went her separate way.

I raced down the steps two at a time and found Ray going into the elevator.

“Ray get out, we need to speak” I called out to him before the door closed and he came out just in time.

“What’s wrong?” He asked me.

“In private if you don’t mind, to my office” I told him and we went back upstairs.

“I thought you were happily with someone” He said jokingly.

“You have a dirty mind, no I’m serious though” I told him and he cut the jokes.

“Did you know my dad is seeing someone?” I asked him.

“No I didn’t” He replied.

“Don’t lie to me” I told him.

“I swear I didn’t know” Ray said holding his hands up in surrender.

“Why wouldn’t he tell me?” I asked Ray.

“Rather personal I’m guessing?” Ray suggested.

“I’m his daughter for crying out loud and he tells me everything straight out, he’s a blunt person” I told Ray.

“That’s true, I don’t know then.  Why don’t you ask him, he’s coming this way anyways” Ray said and I turned to see my father stomping his way over to my office.

“Ray I think you should leave for this” I told Ray.

“I’ll be back up, I’ll be with Halls outside” He said and exited my office.

“Why’d you do that to my office?” my dad slammed my door behind him and yelled at me.

“Why didn’t you tell me about your girlfriend?” I yelled back.

“Girlfriend?” He yelled confused.

“Don’t pretend like you don’t know, you changed ever since you left huh? You’ve become a liar, you keep secrets now” I yelled at him and my voice was ice and he flinched.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I yelled at him getting angrier.

“I didn’t know how” He said looking and sounding sad.

I picked up my picture of me and him that I kept on my desk and I threw it at him but he dodged it.  I watched as it shattered against the wall behind him and I fell to my knees crying.  He came closer to me but I pushed him away.

“You lied to me and you kept it from me, I feel like I don’t know who you are anymore.  Get away from me.  Just go!” I yelled at him and he refused at first but he walked out.

“Ariana, do you need some time alone?” Ms. Halls ringed me in.

“I’m fine Ms. Halls, I’m going on a lunch break if that’s okay with you” I told her.

“Take all the time you need ma’am” she replied and I smiled at her.

I wiped my tears away and I got off of the floor and I grabbed my coat and my purse and walked out the door.  I grabbed Ray’s arm and he followed me down stairs.  When I passed by some workers they looked at me and turned away.

“Ree I’m sorry” Ray told me and I smiled at him.

“I’m sorry you had to watch that, if only the windows weren’t all glass” I told him.

“Why does it hurt you so much though?” He asked me.

“My dad and I have always been close since I was a little girl and we told each other everything and I made sure he wasn’t lying and after my mom had divorced him, things got harder for me but he promised me he’ll still be honest all the time and he never lied to me after all these years and now that he kept it a secret from me and it hurt so much because ever since he moved I lose him every day” I told him.

“Wow that’s some hard stuff, I don’t know how you feel because I lost both my parents in a car accident when I was thirteen” He told me.

“I know Ray and I’m sorry, I don’t know how you can take it all these years” I told him.

“I had people like you to look forward to Ree” He said and I smiled.

“Same” I replied.

I hugged him and he got into the car waiting for us and I followed right after.  My phone rang and it was my dad.

“Hello?” I answered not mad anymore.

“Ree I’m sorry, I broke it off already.  I didn’t mean to lie to you or keep it a secret.  I honestly didn’t know how to tell you about it.  Please forgive me?” He asked me.

“I’m still pissed at you but you’re forgiven because I’m that nice and you didn’t have to break it off but you tell the hoe that if she ever talks about my step mom like that I’ll rip her throat out” I told him.

“I’ll tell her but I’m not going back to her, just know that I’m sorry Ree” my dad said and we hung up.

I liked having peace because it keeps me centered and when havoc does break lose I always have something to hold on to.
