We were straight down the road from Munchies and I couldn’t see any zombies between us, but that doesn’t mean that they weren’t there. We slowly walked down the street. Cars surrounded us, but it’s a shame we couldn’t drive. That’d be a lot better than walking. I held my little sister close to me and Ariana was in front of me. The houses were dark and the streetlights weren’t on, which was good, in a way.
“Riker.” Amari whispered to me.
“What?” I whispered back.
“I miss mom. Why can’t I wake up already?”
“Sometimes, dreams take a while. Trust me though. Mom is safe and in a better place. All we have to worry about is staying alive until you wake up.”
“Okay.” She said in a soft whisper. “Riker?”
“What?”
“I’m sorry I lied to mom and got you in trouble.” She held on to my waist as we kept on walking. I smiled and rubbed her head.
“It’s fine.” We made it to Munchies safe and sound. “See, we’re good.” I grabbed the handle and opened the door. Suddenly, a loud, high pitched noise emitted from the building. I felt like my ear drums were about to bleed. I dropped my bat and covered my ears. I looked at Amari and Ariana and they were doing the same. They were even screaming. Well, their mouths were open, so I’ll assume they were screaming. I looked up and saw that there was this white device flashing red at the exact same speed as the sound, if that makes any sense. I grabbed my bat, fighting through the ear shattering sound and smashed the device with my bat. It sparked and flashed into silence and pieces. Ariana and Amari uncovered their ears and silenced their painful moans. I laughed a little bit.
“Why did you open your big mouth?” Amari asked me with a frown. “Jinxing everything.”
“We are perfectly fine. We may be partially deaf in both ears, but at least we’re alive.”
“Not for long.” Ariana said as she pointed behind us and there was a SWARM of zombies all running this way. Ah, I fucked up! I rang the dinner bell and now we’re about to be eaten.
