I woke up in a dream state. The ceiling was white and the fluorescent lighting blinded me until my eyes adjusted. I tried to sit up but I still felt that same pain I felt when I was brutally violated by a close friend of mine. “Riker, I am so sorry.” I heard her voice as I looked over to her with a frown. Her face was bright red, either from laughing really hard or from embarrassment.

“Its fine, Ariana.” I told her in a pained whisper. “This was your first offense, so I’ll let it slide.” The pain started to subside and I was able to sit up. Now that I was okay, I could see that I was still in the school halls by our lockers. “Why did Karin stuff you in your locker this time?”

“Because I made a black joke.” She responded.

“Oh god. What did you say?”

“I told her that her grandma was so old and senile that when she went to her eighth grade graduation, she thought she was at a slave auction.”

“Jesus Fucking Christ, Ariana!”

“What?!”

“Nothing. Help me up.” She grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet. “Thank you. How long was I out?”

“You have a watch, don’t you?”

“I do indeed.” I looked at my watch and I couldn’t help but scream. But let me explain why I screamed. School ends at 3:30 pm. I have to pick my sister up from daycare at 3:40-45 pm. It is now 3:50 pm. When my mom finds out that I was late, my time of death would be 3:51pm. After saying good bye to Ariana, I ran towards the exit, hopped down the flight of stairs, and ran down the street towards the daycare. Luckily for me, it wasn’t that far. By the time I got there, my sister was sitting on the steps, playing with her dolls. I walked up to her and she stared angrily at me.

“You’re late.” She said with a frown.

“Please don’t tell mom.” I said, practically begging.

“I won’t.” I breathed a sigh of relief. I knew I could count on my little sister. She has my back.

“I want ice cream.” She said suddenly.

“You got some ice cream money?” I asked her with a look. I don’t know what I would call that look.

“No, but you do and if you don’t want mama to know that you were late, I suggest you get me some.”

You conniving little bitch. I thought to myself as I grabbed her hand and we headed for the ice cream parlor.
