We got inside and Amari, my five year old baby sister, was sitting, watching TV. What show? I don’t know. I don’t pay attention to that stuff. I hurried up to my room before my mom could talk to me about what just happened. I closed the door, locked it, turned on my TV and video game system, and faded away into game land. I slid my Call of Duty: Black Ops disc in and watched as images of war flashed before my eyes. The main menu popped up and I had a choice between campaign mode and zombies. Of course, I chose zombies and the solo mode and I was dropped into the dilapidated theatre I grown used to for a few years. With that done, I closed my eyes, slid down in my beanbag chair, and faded away into gameland.

After rounds of shooting zombies, stabbing zombies, blowing up zombies, setting fire to zombies, blowing away zombies, and tricking zombies, I got bored. My mom came in my room and closed the door. “What was Victor doing outside of my house?” She asked me with a stern voice.

“I don’t know,” I answered. “looking for me, I guess.”

“That boy is bad news” She reminded me.

“I know.” I said, looking at the blank wall that used to be the background of every picture Victor and I took together. “I don’t even talk to him anymore since he joined that gang.”

“Good. Because I’d hate to have to haul my own son off to jail.” She gave me a playful push that knocked me off of my bed and onto the cold floor. “I didn’t even push you that hard.” I stood up and dusted myself off. “What happened to your forearm?” I asked as I saw it bandaged up.

“Oh, we got a call on a case. Cannibalism. The perp bit me. I’m fine.”

“Okay then. Mom I have to ask you a question.” She was all ears. “can I go to the movies tomorrow with my friends? He’s having a Zombie Apocalypse party and I wanna go.” I have been saving money for this because I have to bring snacks and good guests always bring snacks.

“I’d be inclined to say ‘yes’ if you weren’t late to pick up your sister from daycare!” She screamed at me.

That lying, black motherfucker! I thought to myself. “Oh, come on. It’s not like I was an hour late. It was only ten minute or so.”

“She told me it was an hour. That’s why you got home so late.”

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’M GOING TO KILL HER! “But my teacher held me up.” I said calmly.

“Oh, and why was your teacher holding you up? Have you been acting out again?”

Goddammit, Riker. “No. She just didn’t like my story.”

“Riker, I don’t expect much from you, that’s something you told me to never do. But I did expect you to be honest and responsible enough to stand up for your mistakes.”

“I’m not lying! Amari is!”

“I don’t want to hear it!” She held her hand up. “You’re to going to that party and if I catch you escaping, you’re going to be in trouble. This isn’t a threat, this is a promise. Try me, motherfucker. Try me.” I could feel a vein in my forehead pulsate like it was about to explode.

“ARGH! You never believe me and you always take her side for EVERYTHING! I’m sick of it and I’m sick of you! Leave me alone!”

“If you’re sick of me, then GET OUT!!” She screamed louder than I did and I just stood there.

“Fine. Let’s see who’ll pick up Amari now.” I grabbed my coat, stomped down the stairs, and left the house, slamming the door behind me.
