Chapter Three
Vivi’s POV

Beeping was going off, I didn’t know where it was coming from, I rolled off my bed onto the hardwood floor with a bam, I  grunted, and rubbed my eyes open. I turned my head to see my grey folded up alarm clock underneath the bed. I pulled it out, shut it off, and placed it back on my stand next to the bed.

I sat up, and rolled myself so I stood, I shivered, goose bumps on my bare legs, and arms I rubbed them warm. Walking over to my drawers, I pulled out a pair of beige cargo shorts, and a black woman’s collar shirt, with five buttons. Pulling on clean underwear, bra, and socks, I slipped on the shorts, tied all the strings on them, and the shirt as well.

I made my bed, and walked out of my room, Giggi ran in front of me, turned the corner, and into the kitchen. The little hallway from the living room, and the kitchen held on each side my parent’s room, and the bathroom. I made my way into the bathroom, and shut the door.

Looking into the mirror, my hair was sticking up. Grabbing the bristled rounded brush from the drawer made into the sink counter, I dunked my head under cold running water. When my hair was damp, I plugged the hair dyer in, and used the brush to style my hair.

Once that was done, I checked my legs, still relatively smooth, and the spot between my eyebrows was hair free as well. Knowing my underarms were good, I took a pee, washed my hands, and left the bathroom to do my makeup when I was done eating breakfast.

Breakfast was something I couldn’t go without. Not eating dinner, and having a light lunch, breakfast was my heaven. I smelled what appeared to be bacon, eggs, toast, and… mmm, grapefruit.

Mom must have cut the fruit in half for me to be able to smell it. I was about to enter the kitchen when I heard my Father’s voice cut through my inner thoughts, and through the kitchen door into the hall. I pushed it open slightly.

“Mary, love, I just don’t know what to do about  that girl. She’s smart, beautiful, and talented, yet she’s failing her classes, cuts her hair short, and keeps her published works under another name. What are we to do?”

My Mom sighed, she turned from the stove to face Father, giving him a long, thoughtful look.

“She’s a good kid, Fred. She’s trying to deal with being a teenager, having to be picked on everyday. And having no friends besides Caleb. Give her time, she’ll figure life out.”
Father dropped his head into his hand, his elbow leaning on the old oak kitchen table.

“I hope so. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve seen her smile, like a genuine smile? At lest two years, where my happy little girl went to, I have no clue.”

Mom smiled sadly, and nodded.

“She’ll be happy next year at college, I know that.”

Father lifted his face back up, and gave Mom a smile.

“What would I do without you, Mary?”

Mom flipped the eggs onto the plate she was holding, she placed the plate on the table next to Father on the table, and sat down on his lap.

Wrapping her arms around Father’s neck, she kissed him sweetly on the lips.

“You would be lost without me.” I decided that I’ve eavesdropped enough, and walked into the kitchen, pushing the door open all the way.

“Aw aren’t you two cute this morning.” Father looked at me, and smiled for the first time in awhile.

“And you look quiet dashing this morning Vive.” Mom said to me, Father wrapped his arms tightly around Mom.

“Yes you do Vivien what’s the occasion?” I shrugged my shoulders, and started to hum a long forgotten tune as I pulled down a glass from the cabinet, and went to get my orange juice.

Mom pulled away from Father, and stood up, she looked at me funny.

“I don’t think I’ve seen you this content to go to school in forever, what’s up?”

I tried to stop my grin, but it came out anyways.

“I met a girl.” Saying so sent a tingle up my spine as I finished pouring my juice. Mom clapped her hands together.

“Oh honey that’s great news, what’s her name?”

“Nyssa. She’s shorter than me by a coupe of inches, and has these beautiful electric green eyes that I’m jealous of. I think…I think she’s into me.” I said that last part hesitantly, that’s what I was getting from the signs she was sending me.

Mom dragged me into a hug with no regard for my orange juice in my hand, and gave me a tight squeeze.

“Baby girl, I’m so happy for you.” I looked over wearily to Father, taking a step back from Mom’s hug, he always had an issue with me being gay, but he just sighed.

“I’ve given up hoping you’ll like boys one day, I should have known. Ever since you were a little girl you’ve proclaimed boys were gross, and that you were gonna marry another girl. As long as she makes you happy, I don’t care.”

I squealed, and threw myself at Father, hugging him tightly.

“Just look at it this way Daddy, if we had sex I couldn’t get pregnant.” Father laughed, and gently pushed me away, his eyes twinkling because I called him Daddy.

“Go eat your breakfast kid, you always knew how to put a smile on my face.”

* * *

Nyssa had added me on Facebook, which I saw on my iPod that I bought with my publishing money, I didn’t have a computer, so I bought a wall charger to charge it.

I sent her a message asking if she’d want a ride, she answered me back two second later begging to give her one. I just laughed reading that, giving her a time that I would pick her up, about ten minutes from now, and set my iPod down on the bathroom counter finishing my make-up.

I hijacked our neighbors internet, which they didn’t mind as I had asked first, they gave me their password, and I had thanked them for it.

Walking back into the kitchen I said bye to Mom, and Father.

“Guys I’m leaving.” Mom was washing dishes, and she looked at the clock in the kitchen.

“Aren’t you leaving a bit early?”

“I’m picking up Nyssa, and Trev at their house, plus Caleb.” Mom just smiled, and nodded to me. I left the house, and turned my jeep on, it roared to life, and I set for Nyssa’s house.

Nyssa’s POV

“Trev come on you little fairy!” I yelled up the stair well, he yelled something back, probably an insult. I chuckled, and walked into the kitchen.

My Dad standing at six feet tall, with blue eyes, and black hair, had his arms wrapped around Mom, they didn’t look a day over twenty five.

“Hey easy you two, don’t wanna traumatize my little sibling do you?” Mom laughed, kissing Dad on the lips.

“We were all over each other with you two, did that ruin either of you?”

“No, but wait! That explains why were so perverted.” Dad shook his head.

“So who’s picking you up?” I smiled, and said,

“Vivi, probably Caleb will be with her, and that’s why Mr. Fairy is taking so long!” I yelled the last part loudly.

“Shut up Nyssa!” I heard Trev yell from the living room, he entered the kitchen looking very cute in a pair of jeans, tight purple long sleeve shirt with white sleeves, and a pair of yellow converse.

“Aw don’t you look cute?” He stuck his tongue out, and walked back into the living room.

“Hey, Nyssa, your girlfriends here.” I blushed, and whirled around, running into the living room to punch Trev.

“She is not my girlfriend.”

“You want her to be, oh Nyssa, and Vive sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love...”

“Mom!” I screamed, and tackled him to the ground so he’d stop singing that embarrassing song.

“Trev be nice to your sister, don’t tease her in front of her girlfriend.”

“Mom, not you too. She isn’t my girlfriend.” Dad chuckled, strolling into the living room.

“How much you wanna bet that won’t be true in three months.” I groaned, standing up I picked up my coat on the coat hanger, throwing it on, I said,

“Trev either catch the bus, or come on.” I opened the door, trying to escape, but didn’t make it quiet that far.

“Hey wait, I want to me this Vive.” I sighed, my Mom the ever teenager.

“Mom can’t this wait?”

“Nope.” I walked out of the door, and jogged up to the jeep window, she rolled it down, and grinned at me.

“You look gorgeous this morning.” I looked down at myself, dressed in a pair of slacks, my brown winter coat over my short sleeve white blouse, my eyes swept with eye liner, and silver eye shadow. I glanced back up at her, and blushed.

“Thank you, you don’t look too bad yourself.” Vivi grinned, and leaned forward, her hand brushed mine which was on her window, I bit my lip, trying not to show that I felt heat shoot from the brush to the center of my being, but that smirk she gave me told me she did indeed. “I have a little favor to ask you.”

Vivi lifted her eyebrow up.

“What ever it is, I can do it.”

“That’s good, my Mom wants to meet you, she um, sorta thinks we’re um...”

“Together?” I nodded, and she laughed. “Well maybe not yet, step back.” I felt pleasure course through me, she wants to be with me! I took a step back, and she unbuckled herself, and stepped out of the jeep, she stood up, being taller, she leaned over me by like three inches.

“God, I’m short.” She shook her head.

“No, girly, I’m just tall.” Mom, and Trev walked out, Trev smiled at Vivi, and ruffled her hair.

“Hey Chica, try not to over stimulate Nyssa to much, she has like three AP classes today.” I growled at him, but Vivi just laughed, she kissed Trev’s cheek, and pinched it.

“Aren’t you looking out for your big sister? Get in the car you little brat.” He grinned, and crawled into the back of the jeep. Mom joined us down on the walkway, dressed in a pair of stretch jeans, a tank, and a jacket thrown over that, she smiled at Vivi.

“Hi Vivien, I’m Alisha, Vanyssa’s Mom.” Vivi turned to me, and raised her eyebrow at me.

“Your full names Vanyssa?”

“Little bit of a mouth full, don’t you think?”

“Just a little, but it’s a very pretty name.” I bit my lip, and blushed, Vivi laughed at me.

“Sorry Alisha, got sidetracked, it’s nice to met you.” Vivi held out her hand to Mom, and she took it.

“I like you Vivian, you be good to my little girl.”

“I will, come on we have to go pick up Cale, he’s going to have a fit, at lest until he sees you Trev.”

I kissed my Mom goodbye, and walked around the jeep, and started to get in the back. “Hey, stay in the front with me, Cale will be happy in the back with Trev, and I’ll be happy up here.”

“Okay.” I said secretly pleased she wanted to be close to me. I climbed into the front, and buckled myself up, shutting the door, Vivi did the same, and put the jeep into reverse we back out of the drive way, and continued to the left where Caleb’s house must be.

We arrived at Caleb’s house, and he jogged up, he yanked the door open, ready to rant when I was suddenly there.

“Whoa. Didn’t expect to see you Nyssa, I see what took you so long, getting your girlfriend.” Vivi lifted her eyebrow, and said,

“No, I was getting your boyfriend.” I laughed, climbing out of my seat, I let him in the back, and we started to school.

We were in silence, not much to say as it was morning, and we were too tired to try for convocation.

“Anyone up for a wake‘n’bake?” Caleb asked in the back, I turned around, and nodded.

“Dude, I need one, I’m kind of worried about going to school now. I’m nervous.” Vivi looked at me with a sad smile, and took my hand, she squeezed it reassuringly. Caleb lit one up, and we shared it between us, by the time we were pulling into the school parking lot, I didn’t give a shit whether or not I got in trouble or got picked on. I almost fell out of the jeep when I stepped out, I giggled, and straightened up, looking around making sure no one saw me.

Vivi laughed, and walked up to me to brush a piece of hair away from my face.

“Your a giggly high type of person, aren’t you?” I grinned, and leaned closer to her, almost having our lips touch.

“Maybe. You know, your really beautiful in the morning sunlight.” Vivi snorted.

“That’s the weed talking.” I shook my head.

“No, well not really. It’s just making me say things I will be embarrassed about tomorrow. God your eyes are pretty.”

“Good lord, Vivi don’t let her go on anymore, she one time sat, and looked at me for an hour, then told me all the things she loves about me being her brother, and about my strengths, it was really weird.”

“Well maybe I like it.” Vivi admitted, and I giggled once again.

“I’m totally going to get caught being stoned at school.”

“Probably baby.”

“I like it when you call me baby.” Vivi took my hand, and tugged me along towards the school.

“Okay, what classes do you have, I need to keep an eye on you.”

“Um, Geometry, English Four, Study hall, Science AP, History AP, and another Study hall, I have lunch B.”

“I have your math class, English, and lunch. Maybe your study hall, which teacher?”

“Miss Delaware.”

“Prefect, me too, she lets people talk, and do stuff. We have twenty minute break after two classes, then study hall, lunch for us, two more classes, then another twenty minute break. I have you for all the morning so you should be coherent by Science class.”

I giggled again, as we entered the school, our hands still entwined, Vivi dropped my hand, which surprised me, I gave her a confused glance, and she held a finger. No sooner then she did that, I felt a group of people surround us.

I gulped, there was three boys, and two girls, two of the boys, and both girls had blonde hair, even in different shades, the other boy had brown hair. One of the girls stepped up, and looked at me.

“Do you even know what your hanging out with?” I felt my back straightened up, and I crossed my arms.

“What do you mean by that?” She rolled her eyes.

“Theses two are the gays, you don’t wanna catch it, do you?” I dropped my arms, and snapped my fingers.

“Damn it to all, well I guess I caught it already, oh wait I was born like this. Man you really are blonde.” Vivi laughed, and her eyes turned sharply to Vivi.

“Oh the little dyke found a girlfriend.”

“More than I could say for you, who would want that?” I said, holding my hand out like I was examining a very unappealing piece of furniture. “Your blonde, stupid, have tiny tits, and oh my god, is that a cold sore?”

The girl gasped, and felt around her lips the with tips of her fingers, when she found nothing she narrowed her eyes at me. “Oh my bad, I missed something, shallow. Your real shallow.” I broke the circle apart by holding may hands out.” Out of the way, you might catch it!”

They jumped back, and turned on their heels, they ran away yelling at us.

“Wow, you made Francine speechless, I’ve never been able to do that.”

“In time, love.” I took Vivi’s hand, and she didn’t resist it one bit.

“Wow that was fun!” Trev said sarcastically. I giggled, and we continued down the hall until we hit the lunch room, Vivi pulled us over to one of the booths in the corner near the double doors going into the kitchen area of sorts.

We sat down, pushing into the booth, I snuggled next to Vivi, after a few minutes of talking between us, I stood up, and said quiet loudly.

“Mmm, muncie time, anyone interested?” Trev shot up, and looked at Vivi, and Caleb.

“What do you two want, we’re buying.” Vivi looked at me gratitude.

“Um, there is ice cream, could you get me a peanut butter flavored ice cream dipped in chocolate.”

“Oh yeah that sounds good, make that two.” Caleb said, I nodded, and indicated with my head for Trev to follow along.

He walked behind me quietly, then said,

“You like Vive a lot, don’t you?” I shrugged my shoulders, not ready to admit it yet to my little brother. “Come on, Nyssa, I know you. Just said it.”

I grabbed two peanut butter flavor ice creams dipped in chocolate, and myself a blue berry muffin, milk, a cinnamon bun, and a ice tea. Trev got a bunch of chips, and two sodas. I shook my head, little brothers. The lunch lady raised an eyebrow at me, but said nothing.

“Six fifty please.” I pulled my long purple wallet from my wrist, opened it up, and wrote a check for six fifty. Signing it, I handed it to her, she put it in the cash register, and shooed us on our way. I was literally ten feet away from our booth when a very cute boy stopped in front of me, he grinned.

“I’m Alistair.” He held out his hand, long arms, a trimmed waist, looked like an athlete, tan skin, and brown hair with chocolate eyes.  He was at lest six feet, to my five foot four, but his smile was friendly, and bright white. I took it, being friendly.

“I’m Nyssa.” And that was what started a year of frustration, and broken hearts.
