Prologue

Emily sat on the front porch step, watching the snow fall. The night was cold, and now, wet. The blanket wrapped around her shoulders was enough to keep her warm... for now. Breathing, she could see her breath like smoke puff from her mouth. Resting her chin in her hands, Emily remembered it all. Every memory she had ever made with him. Would the memories ever fade? Or would she someday, somehow, be able to be with him again?

Four Years Earlier

Sitting on the old wooden bench in the park, Emily turned the page of the book she was currently reading. This one was 700 pages, and full of action. Pulling out her phone, she noted the time. It was already a quarter 'til 5, and she had to be back home in time for her little sister's piano recital. Sighing, she shut her book, and made the short walk to her car. As she drove home from the park, she tried to decide what she was going to do for her best friend, Brooke's 18th birthday. Emily was almost sure Brooke would love the cute pair of vintage laced shoes she had seen in the little boutique downtown. Smiling to herself, Emily sped up a little. She could take care of a little birthday present shopping before making it home, couldn't she?

...

"Just the lace shoes in the window, please."

Emily pulled out her wallet, waiting for the cashier to return with Brooke birthday present.

After paying for the shoes, and thanking the store clerk, Emily walked towards her car. She looked left and right before crossing the street, but noticed something that caught her eye. A man was holding a little girl in his arms, tickling her as he walked. The man was obviously the little girl's father, and Emily couldn't help but smile at the beautiful picture they made.

The man looked up at Emily, and their eyes met for a split second. He nodded, and Emily smiled politely. Darting her eyes from the man and his daughter, Emily looked up just in time to see the car speeding straight for her. She opened her mouth to scream, but found herself unable. Feeling the extreme pressure of the car hitting her torso, she fell backwards, hitting her head on the sidewalk.

A/N: Hey all you lovely people! Thanks for checking out the prologue of my new novel. I know it is EXTREMELY short, but I just wanted to give you all a glimpse of what's to come! I hope you all enjoy it, and please let me know what you think! I would greatly appreciate comments! Thanks so much. XoXo
