Daniella Smith was a La Conner University of Therapy student. She finally finished her degrees in physical and massage therapy. She waited almost ten years before even starting college after high school. Her hard work and endless studying and practicing had paid off. Today was the day her future began.
Daniella was walking up to the stage to receive her diplomas from her instructors when it started. The riot started so fast that she had no time to think about what had started it. Everyone was running around the campus screaming bloody-murder. All of a sudden a gun shot was fired. Then another shot, more screams. A loud buzzing like sound started after the third shot hit the monitor on the stage only 100ft away from where she was standing. Daniella ducked down and started to run as fast as her legs could carry her.
As she ran she looked around with her upper body hunched down. She saw people running over fallen people, frightened people knocking others over and then falling themselves attempting to escape the chaos. She saw a little boy, who must not have been older than four, sitting on the ground at the edge of the sea of crazed people, holding his hands to his ears and crying. Daniella thought she could hear the boy’s cries before the forth and fifth gun shots were fired, sending the crowd packing.
‘Poor little boy. I hope you don’t get hurt.’ Daniella thought as she ran passed him on the opposite side of the crowd. Daniella could see her car as she kept running. But it was still to far away to touch when the next shots were fired. Daniella’s vision started to blur like in the movies. An image flashed before her eyes. She could see a man that she couldn’t recognize, holding hands with a woman that looked a lot like her only a little younger and with blond hair instead of her dark burgundy colored hair. In both of their open hands there was a large gun. There was flashing lights and sirens all around them.
The vision ended so suddenly that Daniella almost fell over. She was at her car now. She was still dazed like she couldn’t think of what to do. She franticly tried to find her keys and open her car. She tried three different keys before she found the right one. Daniella opened the door and jumped inside where she was a little safer than out in the open. Daniella put the key in the ignition and started to turn the car over but the car wouldn’t start.
“No! No! No! Not here! Not now! Come on! Come on!” Daniella slammed her head down on the steering wheel and started to cry. The car finally started and she looked up. Some people had made it to their cars. Some people were still running the people in the cars couldn’t really go anywhere because their only exit was blocked by a frenzy of people. There was no one behind her so Daniella shifted into reverse and got out of there. Before she was completely out of the space she saw some people trip and fall and a truck that managed to escape from its spot. The truck blasted its horn and gunned it. The people that had fallen barely missed getting run over by the crazy man in the truck.
Daniella could hear the sirens of the emergency vehicles racing to the scene. She could see the flashing lights race into the parking lot. The truck got to the exit after the lights showed up, now he was stuck. Daniella had just noticed that the gun fire was silent for the long while that she was in her car turning it over, now that the lights and sirens showed up the firing had increased.
“Thank you, God! The authorities got here. Protect them and the rest of the people still out there.” Daniella said a silent prayer as she snuck out the parking lot through a back exit that no one used any more. People had forgotten about that exit since the new one with a light was up in. The gun fire continued as she exited the parking lot and turned down Horizon St. to get home to her apartment.
Daniella wasn’t thinking at all. She was barely paying attention to what was going on on the road. It was like her car had an auto pilot to take her home. ‘I’ll just pick up my diplomas from the office on Monday. I’m glad I’m not in that mess anymore. I managed to get out without a crowd of cars following me,’ Daniella thought. She didn’t even notice the black SUV that had followed out of the parking lot that was now following her down the street to her home. It was following her in every move she made. If she changed lanes, the SUV would follow her. If she turned it would follow to the exact. Daniella thought she had snuck out without being followed but she was wrong, and she didn’t even notice it.
