Explosions ignited in what seems to be a village once. The air was thick and fire fluttered in the wind, licking the surface on anything it can lay itself on with a vengeance. The cries of agony were deafening. Dead bodies were scattered everywhere on the vast land, swimming in their own pool of blood. People were running in all directions to get to safety; some trampled over the other to get to their destination. I stood there gazing at the massacre, feeling confused.

Where am I?

I turned my head to the left, then right as if the answer would pop out somewhere if only I had been more attentive. My lungs suddenly felt dry. My throat parched. My face and body were soaked in perspiration.

What am I doing here?

My eyes fell towards my hand and anxiety charged down through my veins. My hands.......they were covered in blood. Warm-crusted blood. I couldn’t breathe. All the oxygen was robbed away from me and I was left gasping in terror.

“You didn’t do this, Croix.”

I whirled around, startled by the approach. But there wasn’t anyone there.

“W-Who’s there?” I stammered my voice hoarse from breathing in too much of the smoke. “Sh-Show yourself!”

I felt a hand grabbing my shoulder and I nearly yelped at the touch. I whirled around, only to see myself staring back at me. It was like I was looking at my own reflection. No, that can’t be. The person in front of me seemed a bit off. He had the same physical features as me in terms of face and body. But the hair, it was different. It was longer and jet black. His eyes too, they were of different color. Mine was ruby red but his was sapphire blue.

“It’s not your fault,” my semi-clone spoke, putting a hand towards me. “Stop hurting yourself like this.”

I wanted to reach out to him but my body just too stubborn to move. Instead, I found myself saying,

“Stay away.......Stay away from me!”

My clone took a step forward, his hand still stretching out to me.

“Please, Croix, I’m only trying to help.”

“No.”

“Cro.”

“No.”

“Croix!”

That was when it happened. My body began to glow and getting brighter by the minute. I felt my body expanding, stretching in every direction. I screamed in agony, sadness and even in anger. It was all mixed together that I couldn’t tell which was which. The excruciating pain was all I could think of at that time. It felt like it could go on forever. Then, as suddenly as it had first come, the pain stopped.

And I couldn’t remember anything after that.
