Guilty Rose Chapter 14
“Arisa, are you okay?” Mr. Barson asked me in the middle of class. I was just doing some English exercises that were assigned.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I be?” I said, nearly panting. I looked back at my work but, I couldn’t read anything. It was all blurry and then blackness shrouded me.
“-tell her to rest and eat. What she just experienced just now was fatigue and a very unsatisfied stomach. I would get her something to eat like chicken soup, congee, or anything that’s warm and easy to go down. And tell her to take it easy until she is healthy again. It hasn’t been two months after the last time she fainted. Just watch over her,” a familiar voice continued saying. Who was it again? I forgot.
I slowly opened my eyes to a white ceiling and two people standing over to the side. It was the nurse, Dr. Mari, and Cain.
“Thank goodness you’re awake!” Cain exclaimed, rushing over to the side of the bed. Dr. Mari glanced at me worriedly and walked outside. Cain pulled me into a hug that said everything he was feeling. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” I said and then suddenly felt sad. I hadn’t been able to be with my friends for so long...
“Don’t say that you’re fine when you’re obviously not!” Cain said angrily, pulling away to see tears forming in his eyes. “Eat, sleep, and be happy. Is that too much to ask? Is keeping yourself happy and healthy too much to ask?”
“I-I guess not,” I replied, struggling against tears as well. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”
I returned to class to have everyone stare at me like I’m a freak. Melanie noticed my fidgeting and snapped at everyone in the class to continue working and get their heads out of their butts. I looked over with silent thanks in my eyes. She smiled at me happily and continued working.
I will overcome this damned wall of angel crap! I will not let anyone separate me from my best friends!
And so, October passed quietly and soon November passed, too. It was cold. One day, I stood out on the balcony to take a breather from algebra and I saw a crystalline snowflake fluttering down.
“Ah, it’s snowing already, huh?” I muttered to myself. The snowflake was blown by the wind and had landed on my nose. I flinched and tripped over my feet. I landed on my butt painfully. A long melodious laugh stretched out and echoed.
I spun around to see Mel, Cain, Kyle, and Kevin laughing their heads off! I marched inside angrily.
“Ha, sh-she g-got scared of a tiny snowflake,” Kyle choked out in between spasms of laughter. He laughed so hard, tears formed.
“J-just stop! I-,” Mel tried to contain herself but, she started to laugh anew.
“Pfft, I’m s-sorry, Arisa, but a snowflake?” Kevin said, stuttering, too.
“The girl who could kick some ass gets scared by a snowflake,” Cain chuckled. He took a look at me and went into a full out roar of laughter, filling the room with his melodious laugh.
“I-I hate you all!!!” I said, puffing my cheeks up. I frowned at them playfully and they continued laughing.
This is what happens when you leave a few best friends together... But, I love them all! Funny paradox, right?
