Chapter Eight

Why was Jun here? How’d he get here, how’d he know I was here? Now I was confused but relieved at the same time that he hadn’t given up on me, or was it that he came and rescued me like a knight in shining armor.

“Mei!” Jun yelled across the road. I kept staring at him to see if it was a dream, I hope it was or I would be screwed if it wasn’t him. He started to run towards me while calling my name, by the time he crossed the road and was in front of me he stared at me and my scarred, bloody, body with a torn shirt that had barely cover both of my breasts, and my ripped/torn bloody skinnies. He took off his shirt and showed off his masculine chest.

“Here, wear this” Jun said looking away.

“Thanks, sorry you had to see me like this.” I said quietly. “I must be embarrassing you looking like this you should stay away from me.”

“Mei,” Jun said worriedly. I bent down and looked at Kun.

“Kun, you be a good boy and stay with Jun.” I said sadly. “Ok!”

Kun started to whine, but then stopped after a while. I stood back up and faced Jun.

“Sorry I would give you a goodbye hug, but I don’t think Madam would like blood on your clothes.” I said smiling to him. When I tried to move my body, I realized that the pain came back and now my body was all sore. I noticed that Jun was still holding his shirt out to me to wear. I moved one of my arms forward to accept it, but something interfered.

“There she is!” a bodyguard said. “Don’t let her get away!”

All the bodyguards started to run towards us, and I couldn’t let Jun or Kun get hurt all just because of me. Since we were still a far distance away from them, I dragged Jun over to the other side of the road with Kun following.

“What are you doing?” Jun said loudly. I stopped at the edge of the woods, stared at him for some time.

“Jun, if you dare come back I will never forgive you!” I said loudly. I pushed him hard for him to go into the woods. “Kun, watch over him ok!” I told Kun smiling, and ran out onto the road and up the hill to where the bodyguards were so they wouldn’t know that Jun was here.

They circled around me, staring at me and my body. I was trapped, with nowhere to go. I guess I would have to attack from the inside out.

“Ah,” I said pointing to the road. They all turned and looked at what I was pointing at, but by the time they turned back with their attention on me I was already attacking them. I punched one in the stomach and pulled his sword away from him. I now had a weapon, which was easier than fighting against swords and guns with my bare hands.

I slashed the sword at another bodyguard and took his gun. I dropped the sword, and cocked the gun. I shot all the other bodyguards except for one, he dodge the bullet. I then just had to run out of bullets. I threw the gun to the ground, it was a one-on-one fight. I ran for the last bodyguard, but he caught me off guard with him pulling out his hidden gun. He shot me by the chest, barely missed my heart just another couple inches diagonally downward and I would’ve died. Instead I got hit by the shoulder area, it was painful but I was still able to move. I tried to finish him with the last move. I ran for a sword as he tried to shoot me again, thankfully he missed. He walked over by me while I was still trying to hold up the sword with one arm.

“Say goodbye g?ngzh? Mei,” said the last bodyguard. Right when he was about to shoot me for the third time, I swung my leg to hit his leg. He couldn’t counter attack it and missed the shot again. As he fell I threw the sword at him, when he landed and hit the cement ground the sword pierced through his heart.

“Ugh, when does this end?” I said talking to myself. The bullet wound started to kick in, and realized that my shirt was drenched in my blood again. I had a hard time to get back up on my feet but I was able to do it. I leaned on the wall for support, and walked down the road again. I didn’t think I was going to last another second, with so much blood loss. My knees could barely hold me up, my shoulder was aching of pain and gushing blood out. I started to lose conscious, but for a moment I heard someone call my name. I couldn’t clearly hear it but it sounded like mother’s voice.

I woke up in a warm room, when I say warm I mean that it was cozy, and comfortable like I’ve been here dozens of time, even though there was no one in the room besides myself. I pushed the blanket off my sore body, and forced myself to stand up.  I slid open the door and stepped out of the room. When I stepped out, it was bright with the sun shining and glaring into my eyes. There was a warm breeze coming from the south. I wandered around the house I was at. I surely didn’t know who lived here because I was sure that I didn’t know anybody who lived in a house as old as this. I heard some loud voices coming from a room not too far away from the one I was sleeping in. I tried to walk faster to see who they were but I couldn’t, my body was too sore and my shoulder felt like it was paralyzed because whoever bandaged it wrapped it too tightly.

By the time I got to the door I heard Kun barking. I guess he smell me, and was excited to see me because he ran right through the sliding door and left a hole in it. Kun ran toward me and circled around me, his tail wagged around with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. I tried to bend down to touch him, my body ached more with pain every time I bended lower. I forced myself to get down lower but someone pulled me back up.

When I turned around to look, hoping that it was Jun it wasn’t. Instead it was an old man.

“Xiàw? h?o,” (good afternoon,) said the old man. I tried to bow at him to show him my manners and gratefulness.

“Ah, you shouldn’t do that Mei,” said the old man. “You’ll just reopen your wound.” I stood back up.

“Thank you for saving me and Kun!” I said gratefully looking down.

“I didn’t save you, Jun did!” said the old man. I looked back up at the old man who was smiling. Jun was here, so I wasn’t imagining.

“May I see him?” I asked the old man. He stared at me right into my eyes.

“Tell me Mei, do you love him?” the old man asked me. I didn’t know if I loved him, I have never felt love or experience love.

“What does love feel like?” I asked him quietly. He looked at me surprised, and then went back to having a clam facial expression.

“Well Mei, I think you have to ask yourself that question. After all there are different kinds of love.” The old man said. “But if you still want to see him, he’ll be in that room that Kun and I were in. He was very worried about you, stayed with you every day and all night. He didn’t even eat or sleep. When I was finally able to persuade him, he acted like nothing was wrong. He had changed overnight.” The old man said quietly.

I thanked the old man again, and went to the room. When I entered Jun was sitting by the other door staring outside. Something did change about him, he was quiet and had this aura that if you approached him you wouldn’t live. I stopped walking towards him and thought to myself what love was. I thought love was when you were living happily with the one you loved, but that still didn’t explain what love was. I was nervous, my heart was beating fast. I started to walk again towards Jun. When I got by him I carefully tried to sit down, to show him that I was alright. Although it hurt every time I tried, I finally sat down.

We sat in silence for a while, staring outside. I was scared of what was going to happen next.

“Jun,” I said quietly breaking the silence. He never answered back, if he was mad then why was he mad? He should be happy that I’m alive, after a while of not answering me back he was starting to get on my nerves. I was starting to get mad now too.

“Jun,” I said again but this time louder. I sighed and then got back up carefully so my body wouldn’t ache as much.

“What do you want me to say Jun?” I said hysterically. “Shouldn’t you be happy or excited that I’m alive?” I started to move around quickly, and I noticed that the pain disappeared. All the pain was gone. My shoulder wound reopened though, and started to bleed again. I stared at him for a long time, but he never answered or looked back at me. I opened the door again and stepped out of the room.

“Mei, your shoulder!” the old man said loudly, looking worriedly. After that sentence Jun ran out of the room like a maniac.

“Bàichí!” Jun shouted who was now standing next the old man.

“I’ll rewrap it, when I get in my room.” I said calmly. I walked back to my room slowly with Kun following behind me as if I was going to go someplace far. When I got to my room, I slipped off the upper part of the loose robe off. It hung down by my waist, with the string holding it up so it wouldn’t go any lower then I needed to. I started to take the tight bandages off my shoulder. I started to feel the pain the closer I got to the wound. When there was only one layer of bandage left, it felt like someone was ripping off my skin. I didn’t want anybody to hear my cries of pain so I put one of my socks in my mouth to bite down on it. I bit down on the sock as hard as I could, then I pulled the last layer of bandage off quickly. I didn’t think that it would hurt as much but it did, way more than I thought. I took out the sock in my mouth, and threw it onto the floor. I stood topless in the room looking around for bandages. I couldn’t wear the top to the robe because I didn’t want to stain it with blood. I kept looking but I couldn’t find anything. I came to my last resort of how to get bandages.

“Kun, go get Jun and bring him here so I can tell him to get some bandages.” I said calmly. Kun left to go find Jun, as I continued to look for it in the room. After ten minutes of searching, I found a first aid kit in the closet that was covered by a piece of cloth. I tried to grab it, but I was apparently too short. I couldn’t jump, that would just make my wound bleed more. I dragged a mini table across the room and set it in front of the closet. I climbed on top of it, and grabbed it. I opened the box and searched through it, I finally found some in there. I closed the box, tried to get back down. My knees went weak for a second, and I dropped the box onto the ground. It made a loud thud, but good thing that I didn’t fall else I would’ve been more hurt than I already was.

“Mei! Are you alright?” Jun shouted running down the hall. He slammed open the door while I was trying to get down from the table, and I was still topless.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to.” Jun said in a rush being embarrassed as he closed the door with him standing in the hallway.

“What was that loud noise?” Jun said quietly.

“Ah, that was the first aid kit. My knees went a little weak and lost my balance and dropped it.” I said calmly.

“What did you need me for?” said Jun.

“I needed you to get me some bandages, but I found some already.” I said quietly.

“Did you need some help with bandaging?” Jun asked me quietly. I hesitated at what he just asked. For sure I wouldn’t have been able to wrap it myself with one arm only.

“Sure, thanks just give me a minute to get down” I said nervously. I tried to get down but my legs wouldn’t move. They kinda gave out on me I guess.

“Hey Jun,” I said quietly.

“Yea” he said back.

“Can you help me down, I can’t get down.” I said anxiously. He didn’t answer for a minute or so.

“Sure, if I can help” Jun said back.

“But when you come in, close your eyes so you don’t see” I said quickly. He said okay and slid the door. He entered the room slowly, with his eyes closed as I told him which way to turn and where to go. When he got right in front of me, I felt weird like embarrassed, or shy. I grabbed onto his shoulders for support as I tried to get down. He backed up so it wasn’t so cramped. He tripped over the first aid kit and I fell over on top of him.

“Sorry, are you hurt?” Jun asked me, about to look at me.

“Don’t look,” I said loudly covering his eyes with both arms. I yanked my arm which caused my shoulder to hurt and bleed more. “Ow,” I said quietly.

“What’s wrong?” Jun asked loudly.

“Ah, it’s nothing” I said trying to persuade him.

“It’s not nothing, if it hurts, let me see.” Jun said calmly.

“NO!” I said loudly tightening my hands on his eyes.

“You don’t want me to see that badly,” Jun said disappointed.

“No, it’s not like I don’t want you to see. It’s just that I’m ugly right now.” I said quietly. Jun took my hands off of his eyes gently, held my hands and looked at me straight in the eyes.

“You’re not ugly Mei, you look beautiful to me” said Jun, kissing my hands. “Now, sit up straight so I can bandage your shoulder.” Jun said smiling. I sat up straight staring right at Jun with Jun staring at my body focused on looking at my wound.

“Jun,” I said.

“Hmm,” Jun said back.

“How did you know that I was there at the main house?” I asked quietly.

“I just knew Mei, I guess that just proves that you’re special to me” Jun said back. What did he mean by special, I was so nervous that I didn’t know where to look, so I decided to just look back at Jun.  Jun stood up after looking at my shoulder for five minutes.

“I’ll be right back I need a wet cloth so I can clean your shoulder is too bloody.” Jun said as he stepped out of the room.
