Once the helicopter hit the tarmac of the helipad, it seemed as if all hell had broken loose.

Ali’s officials and guards had come rushing up to his rooftop helipad from the inside the building. Ali was ushered quickly by his guards and taken down into the building before Sarah could even blink, while she was left behind with Khali and the luggage.

Khali took her hand, and walked her down through the palace, and into a large bedroom, that was lavishly furnished. The mirror on the wall was gilded in gold, the vase on the table was gold, and the fan hanging from the ceiling was gold, good lord! even the four posted bed, was gold!

Sarah stiffened at the doorway, and after a minute or so, started to feel faint, then realized she had been holding her breath.

Khali placed her case on the floor near the door, then turning to look at her, smiled. “I forgot what a shock it was to me when I first started to work at the palace and first saw the Royal bedchamber. But you will get used to it”

“And I thought it was bad enough in the other parts of the palace when I was cleaning, I was afraid to breathe the wrong way in case I knocked some hugely invaluable thing down and broke it. Now I am in a room that looks like every single item in it is priceless!”

“Do not worry Sarah that is what insurance is for” he gave her a goofy lopsided grin that made her giggle.

“We have that saying in Australia too” she smiled.

“So you miss Australia Sarah? Your friends, family?”

Sarah looked down and her smile faded away.

“Yes Khali, I do miss my friends, although, they have made no attempt to contact me the whole time I have been here, so I guess that says a lot huh. As for family… I don’t have any, not anymore. My grandmother was all I had, but she passed away, so there is just me.”

Khali gave her a pat on the shoulder. “Well, now you have us as well Sarah.”

“I know, and I love you all dearly too Khali” she nodded, and then before Khali could protest, she brought him in for a hug, making the old man blush.

“Ok Sarah, before I get in trouble for wasting the hours away chatting, I need to go and make sure Ali is taken care of”

“What are they doing with him? And when will I get to see him?”

“The officials would be debriefing him as to what has happened since we left, as well as any arrangements that Ali wants done himself. I am not sure how long this will take Sarah, but it could be many hours till he is able to come away from them. Best that you just make yourself comfortable, and have a rest.”

Khali left Sarah alone in her huge room, unsure what to do, or what was expected of her, she took of her sandals, stepped into the bathroom, which by the way was also fitted out with gold fittings everywhere, even the toilet seat was gold! She ran a long hot bath, wrapped herself in a towel, and climbed into bed, praying that when she woke up, Ali would be by her side.

Ali crept slowly into his bedroom, and stood at the foot of the bed, his heart melting at the sight before him. His wife, Sarah curled into a tiny ball lay on one side of the bed. Her pale face hidden by her long curly hair, she almost looked like a child laying there with how the bed seemed to engulf her. Leaning over, Ali took the strands of her hair, and moved them back away from her face, as he leaned over and kissed her cheek.

He hadn’t wanted to stay in his office for so long with the officials, but so much needed to be looked into, and he did not want to worry Sarah by having her by his side. Climbing in bed, he spooned up behind her, loving how she wiggled to fit against him closer and sighed contentedly.

Trying to go to sleep, Ali found that is mind had other ideas. The problems that had been uncovered in his meetings earlier, unnerved him greatly.

His Adviser was working with someone, but whom? Clearly the allegations against Sarah were false, but that note…. Someone had clearly tampered with the note that was in her case, but why?

What advantage was to be had by taking a foreign woman, and falsely accusing her of crimes, then having her imprisoned? What disturbed him further was why his Advisor had been working with Kaneef’s guards? Was there a whole conspiracy going on that he knew nothing of?

Ali had sent out a group of his own personal guards, to try and track down the whereabouts of the Advisor. Once they found him, one way or another, they would have answers. The first business he had dealt with, had been to have the official who arrested Sarah at the airport brought in for questioning, but upon his men knocking down the official’s door, they found him strangled and dead on his kitchen floor.Obviously someone had not wanted him talking.

Becoming more and more frustrated with lack of sleep, Ali gave a deep sigh, leant into Sarah’s neck, breathing in her heavenly scent, and drifted off to sleep telling himself that everything else could wait till morning, when his little flower could be by his side.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A gentle caress, soft and silky across her cheek yet as delicate as a soft breeze stirred Sarah from her sleep. Once more, it ran the length of her cheek, making Sarah open her eyes. Ali kneeling on the bed by her side, fully dressed was stroking a feather across her cheek, a soft smile on his face as he gazed lovingly at his wife.

“Good morning flower” he murmured to her. Sarah sat up kissed his lips gently “Morning” she whispered as sheleant upand hugged him tightly.

“I missed you yesterday and last night” she told him, squeezing harder. “I know petal, and I did not want to be parted from you, but I needed to get things sorted. Today though, I am all yours” he kissed her neck, nuzzling in and breathing deeply of her hair. Her scent always soothed him.

“Mmmm, what did you have in mind?” she asked, kissing his jaw lightly, loving the feel of his unshaven skin, slightly stubbly rough against her lips.

“Today we are going for a helicopter trip, so that you can see the land that is now yours, just as much as it is mine.”

“But, the land is yours Ali, I do not wish any claim to it… darn, I knew there was something that needed to be done, you really should have drawn up a prenuptial agreement or something Ali”

“NO!” Ali snapped at her, his eyes gleaming coldly

“You will not belittle yourself like this Sarah!” Ali’s lips were drawn tightly and his fists were clenched, knuckles white as he tried to calm himself. “When I asked you to marry me, it was with the knowledge that what is mine is now yours as well. You have suffered so much because of what has happened to you Sarah. Do you really believe that if I was willing to trust someone whom I thought was a whore out to make a cheap dollar from extorting married men with my belongings… that I would not trust the most loyal and trusting woman who had agreed to make me a happy man forever?” Hanging his head, shaking it slightly Ali tilted his head enough to look deeply into her eyes. “Sarah, I can never forgive myself for what happened. To think if I hadn’t sent the leniency order, you would have been tried, and sentenced to death… to death Sarah!” a silent tear escaped down his face as he drew his hands up and rubbed them over his eyes.

Sarah rushed over to his side, wrapping her arms around him and holding on tightly. “But you did sign that order Ali, you saved my life! You mustn’t beat yourself up over something that you had nothing to do with. I love you so much, and I just want to you to be able to trust me as much as I trust you.”

Ali kissed each of her eyelids “Silly Sarah, I do trust you, now come, no more arguments or silly ideas of not wanting what is now yours too, lets go and eat, then ready for our trip.”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the helicopter seemed to almost float over the countryside, Sarah was left breathless by the color of the land. It was almost as if an artist had taken a brush, and painted rich reds, burnt oranges as well as blazing ochre and yellow tones over the whole desert. The way the dunes peacefully rolled one after the other, the breeze casting a misty sheen over them was too perfect for words. Sarah wished she had a camera to have captured some of the scenery, but that was one of the things that had been taken and not returned when she was imprisoned.

Ali pointed out places as he went, a story marking each one, from the place he and his brother had run away to as children on their fathers prized racing camel (they only lasted a few miles before the camel bucked them off and they had to wait to be rescued) to the wells that were the main water source for many of the neighboring villages.

Ali took her over what looked to be a massive pile of rocks in the middle of nowhere, when he indicated to the pilot to land.

Feeling a little startled, Sarah held her talk button on her headset and asked “Is there something wrong? Why are we landing?”

Ali just smiled and waggled his eyebrows at her, making her wonder just what he had planned.

As the rotors slowed down, Ali climbed out of the helicopter, and held out his hand for Sarah. “Come, I wish to show you something” he urged her, a smile on his face that would have tempted a 90 year old nun to follow him.

Sarah climbed out, gripping his hand tightly as he led her over the sand, toward the rocky hills. Climbing up the first rise of rocks, Ali led her to a jagged wall, and around a boulder that was in front of them. As Sarah rounded the boulder, she noticed that there seemed to be an opening in the rock wall near it. Ali, breathing in squeezed his large frame into the hole in the wall, and pulled her along behind him.

The hole was actually a passage, long and thin that dipped low and headed downward. While Sarah did not have to dip her head, being so short, Ali had to tilt down at the same time keeping himself flattened against the wall so that he could fit width ways as well.

“I don’t remember it being this tight a fitwhen I was a child” he chuckled. After a few minutes of following the passage, it opened up into a cavern, lit by cracks in the rocky walls.

In the middle of the cavern, was pool of water that seemed to be so crystal clear, that is almost seemed to be out of place amongst all the rocks and sand.

“This is one of the outlets of the natural spring that runs under my lands Sarah” he bent down and scooped a handful of the water, drinking it out of his cupped palm, before indicating that she should try it also.

“The water is pure, no filtering needed, and it is the prize possession of Barrauk”

"My officials and Advisor have been trying for years with the tribes to try and distribute this water amongst my people, but the trucks are attacked, and men are lost. Trade between the far villagers has but all ceased with the attacks on shipments of supplies. This is why I sent out those trucks the night at Kaneef’s compound.” Ali walked over to a smooth rock formation on the ground by the pool, and dropped his backpack onto it.

“That shipment gave enough supplies to my people to last for a few weeks, but they will need more, and soon.”

Opening up his backpack, Ali took out a cloth, which he laid out on the rock, then fruit, pastries, goat cheese and fruit juice.

Taking her hand, he beckoned her over to him, then slipped off her robe, then underwear. “I thought we could take a dip, before we eat” he told her, slipping off his own clothing and sliding into the cool water.

Sarah joined him, shuddering at the chill in the water as he laughed and splashed her with his hands.

“Oh, you are so going to pay for that!” she cried out as she dove onto him, and pushed his shoulders under the water, dunking him. Ali came up spluttering, and then launched himself at Sarah “Call that payback flower? THIS is payback”, grabbing her around her waist and wrapping her thighs around his hips, he pushed himself into her in one motion. Holding onto her tightly, he showed Sarah just what his version of payback was until she was out of her mind, holding onto him tightly and begging for release.

Afterwards, as they sat down eating the selection of delicacies that Ali had brought for them to share, Sarah sipped her juice, her mind going over what Ali had said.

“Do you think the Advisor has something to do with the tribes fighting over shipments Ali? I mean, he obviously knew each time a shipment was going to be sent out… he is the logical mole in the attacks on the trucks each shipment”

Ali thought this over. “You are right Sarah, we have men searching for him already. I am starting to think all of this, your arrest, the advisor, the shipments and attacks are all connected, we just don't have the missing pieces of the puzzle as yet.”

After they had spent a little while longer just simply being together, kissing and hugging, talking about the future and what it would mean to be together through anything, it was time to head back to the palace.

Ali lead Sarah back through the passageway, and along the rocky hill’s edge, then back down to the helicopter, where the pilot was sitting under the shade of a bush, reading a soppy love novel. Sarah had to stifle chuckle as she read the title, then poked Ali in the ribs, motioning him to the book too. Ali smiled, “Yes, my pilot has a thing for romance novels, his wife reads them, so when she has finished, he brings them along on trips and reads them while he waits for me to finish my business each time.”

Sarah laughed, climbing into the back of the helicopter. As their pilot was going around the helicopter doing his pre-flight checks, and checking the gauges, Sarah saw a dark blur in the corner of her vision. Turning her head right around to see what it was, she was confronted by a man standing at her door, he was not smiling.

Sarah yanked on Ali’s arm, who spun his head around, saw the man, and called out at the pilot “Forget the checks, get us in the air NOW!”

The man beside Sarah yanked open her door, and tried to pull her out with him, but Ali held onto her firmly. Sarah kicked out at the man screaming at him, but he took out a dagger, and made a swipe at Ali’s arm holding onto her.

Sarah reacted, not even registering what she was doing, she twisted at the last second so that the knife would not hit Ali, and instead felt the blade skim past her shoulder leaving a deep scratch. Ali kicked at the man, his boot connecting with the mans nose, which cracked under the pressure and sprayed bright red blood before he crumpled to the sand holding his face.

As Ali was yanking the door back closed, he saw two more men, dressed in the same fashion as the first, running toward them, and shouting to each other as they ran. Ali clicked the door closed, and holding onto Sarah’s bleeding shoulder, he clipped her into her belt, relieved as the helicopter lifted off into the air before the men could get any closer.

“Straight to the palace, hurry!” Ali barked at the pilot, worry etched on his face as he took in his wife’s too pale face, and her obvious state of shock.

“I am ok” she said in a small voice, not convincing him one little bit.

“My physician will be the judge of that Sarah, I will radio ahead, have him waiting to see you immediately.

Ali placed the call to the palace, and asked Khali to meet him at the helipad as well.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As they landed, the physician ushered Sarah to be brought with him to the Royal bedchamber, Ali carrying her as she was still incredibly pale and looking frail.

Khali followed, and as soon as Ali had gently placed Sarah onto the bed, the physician had pushed them out of the door saying “I will see to her now sire, you go have a drink of mint tea, you look like you could use it. She is in good hands.”

Ali took Khali aside, “I need my most loyal men readied instantly, there is something very grave happening my friend”

“What happened sire?”

“We were attacked at the springs cavern, three men, I took one out who tried to take Sarah out of the helicopter before we could lift off, the other two were not quick enough, and we escaped before they reached us”

“Sarah, why would they try and take Sarah?”

“I do not know Khali, but as we were taking off, I heard what the last two were yelling to each other.”

“And what was that?” Khali prompted

“Leave the Sheikh but take his whore alive.”
