Maedine’s POV

“Maedine! Wake up! Wake up!”

“Maedine, darling you’re having a nightmare” my Mom explained “Are you alright?” she asked me. I looked in her eyes, full of concern. “Do you want something?” she continued when I didn’t answer.

“Mom, I’m fine. I don’t need anything” she eyed me. “Mom, really I’m fine, just having a bad dream”

“I know you’re having a hard time because of  Na-”

I cut her off. “Mom, please.” Tears flooding in my eyes, I just can’t believe that I won’t see her again. NEVER.

“I know you’re having a hard time, but it’s been a month Maedine. You should move on. Grow up. Get a life. Stop horsing around” she said

“Mom it’s not that easy to move on.” I argued. “And I’m not horsing around” I defended myself.

“Kay, but still try darling” she said, patting my back

“I’m trying Mom, but I can’t” I said in my loudest voice emphasizing the word can’t. “I tried so many ways. I did everything. But still I can’t” I continued “Everything I saw reminds me of her.” Even saying or hearing her name hurts me. Everything reminds me of her. My memories are filled with her. She’s like a sister to me. We grew up together. We shared laughter. We shared sadness. We shared everything. She’s my life. My life is nothing without her. The day my Mom told me about her death, it’s like it has been yesterday only. There’s still so mush pain.  “Mom, I want to be alone.” I announced

“Sure.” She shrugged. “Just call me if you need anything.” I nodded then she gets out of my room.

I checked my clock, Its 4 in the morning only. I tried to sleep again but I can’t. I lay in my bed for a moment. I can hear the clock tickling. I stretched my arms then I saw my bracelet. Just then a memory struck my mind.

It was summer. Nadine and I went on a beach. She wore a black tank top and super short shorts. And well me, I wore a pink one piece bikini. It hugs my curves perfectly. Our other friends were there. We’re having fun. We’re enjoying the blazing heat of the sun. The others were swimming. While me and Nadine just stayed lying on the sand.

“Why don’t you join them?” I asked her.

“And why would I do that?” she said cocking her eyebrows.

“You know how to swim right? I don’t want you to be bored here with me.” I muttered. “Go join them.” I said.

“No way, I don’t want you to be alone here.” She said. “And I don’t want to swim at all.” She assured me.

“Not wanting to join Tyron there?” I teased her.

“No way! God I don’t even like him!” she almost screamed.

“Ok, chill.” I laughed. Then I eyed her.

“Jesus! Stop looking at me like that!”

“Okay,” I chuckled.

I watched her carefully. I watched how her soft milkish skin glows in the sunlight, how her long black hair perfectly shines. She’s very beautiful. Her beauty is almost painful to bare. She’s like an angel. And she has this amazing body that every girl would die for.

“What are you looking at?” I met her eyes, questioning.

“Nothing.” I murmured. I don’t want her to know my insecurities.

“Okay,” She said and didn’t pry. But she’s still confused.

“Uhmm, I think you should hook up with him ASAP.” I said, changing the subject.

She followed my gaze. “What the?!? I told you I’m not into him!” she gasped

“Yeah but he’s into you.” I insisted. Then giving her a naught smile.

“OH MY GOD MAEDINE AUSTIN!! Can you hear what’s your saying? He’s the sluttiest man on earth! He almost slept with the entire female population of our school!” she yelled. “I don’t even know what disease he have.” She added.

I laughed. “Okay, but still think of it. Tyron is hot. I mean real hot!” I challenged.

“No way! I won’t ever hook up with him. I won’t let him  take away my virginity.”

“Very well said Ms. Anderson.” I chuckled.

“Wait, I’ll get something.” she said as she gets up.

I watched as she ran. On her way to our cottage, a steamy hot guy approached her. I wonder what he is saying to Nadine.

Just then I felt a hand touched my elbow. I spun around to see who it was. It’s Darren. He’s on our junior class too. I like how his shaggy brown hair was tousled. He’s pretty cute.

“Hey.” He mumbled

“Hi Darren.” I greeted him with a grin.

“I would like to-.” He trailed off.

“Oh, what’s going on here?” a female voice asked. I look up its Nadine.

“Uh nothing Nadine.” Darren answered. Then he looked at me. “Later Maedine.”

“Wait, Darren what are you saying-.” He cut her off.

“It’s nothing. Just a nonsense thing.” I nodded. Nadine sat beside me.

“What’s his problem?” Nadine asked.

“I really don’t know.” I said. She nodded.

“Btw, what’s up with the guy?” I asked.

“Which guy?”

“The guy who approached you there.” I clarified.

“Which guy?” she repeated. “They were two.” She informed me.

“Oh, the one with reddish brown hair.”

“Ah. The hottie. He asked my name and my number.”

“And you told him?”

“Yeah.” She blushed.

“He’s hot! Hotter than Tyron!” I commented.

“Of course!” she exclaimed.

“And the other guy?” I asked.

“Oh, the blonde. He did the same.”

“And?”

“I told him too. He’s cute. But the redhead is a lot hotter.”

“Where’s the blonde guy?”

“There” she said, pointing to her right

“He’s cute. But you’re right the redhead is so much hotter.” I agree.

“I know right.” She mumbled.

“He’s looking, I mean staring at you.” I told her.

“Stop looking at him.” She hissed.

“Why?” I demanded.

“He might think that I’m attracted to him.”

“Playing hard to get eh?” I teased

She chuckled. “Btw, this is for you.” She said handing me a small pink box.

“What’s this?” I asked, totally confused.

“Can’t you see? It’s a box.” She burst out.

“Fuck, I mean-.” She cut me off.

“Oh shut up freak. Just open it.”

And so I opened it. It’s a friendship bracelet. It has cute little gems. I turned the thing around then I saw words engraved, Maedine and Nadine are best friends forever. I smiled.

“Wow.” I commented.

“I’ve got mine too.”

“Thanks Nadine. I love you.” I pecked her on both cheeks.

“Promise me you won’t leave me.”

“Of course. Best friend forever?”

“YES!” then I hugged her tightly.

I used to think one day we'd tell the story of us, how we met and the sparks flew instantly,”

In that instant I’m back to the present world. I immediately grabbed my phone and answer it.

“Hello?” I said

“”Hi Maedine this is Darren.”

“Yeah, I know. What do you want Darren?” I asked him coldly.

“Just want you to know if you would like to come to my party tonight.”

“Party? Why?” I asked, confused. Am I missing something?

“Its my birthday today and I have a party at my place tonight.” He informed me.

“Oh, sorry I didn’t know. Happy birthday.”

“No its fine. So is that a yes? I’ll see you later?”

“Sure” then he hung up on me.

“Who is that you just talked to?” a female voice asked. I turned to see who it was. Its my annoying sister.

“None of your business dumbass.” I spat . “ Why are you bothering me this early?” I demanded.

“Mom told me to call you because breakfast is already ready” she shrugged

“Fine got it. Now get out.”

I went downstairs. “Good morning Mom.” I greeted with a grin

“Good morning Hon, come on lets it.”

“Okay.” I sat on our table beside my Mom. “Where’s Dad?” I asked her.

“He’s on work.”

“This early?”

“Yeah, you know your Dad is a very busy man.” She muttered. “Btw, Shane and I are going to shop later, wanna come?” she offered

I gave Shane a glare. She stuck her tongue on me. “Thanks but no thanks.” I replied. “I’m going to Darren’s place later tonight.” I added

“Darren?” Mom and Shane said in a chorus.

“It’s his birthday.” I explained.

“Later tonight? Huh?” Mom asked, suspiciously

“Yeah, Darren’s place later tonight.”

“Well have fun then.”

The house is really big. Bigger than ours.  There are so many people tonight. But almost all of their faces I’ve already seen, well at school. I wore my favorite pair of jeans and a white blouse that shows my cleavage. Well not a lot cleavage, just enough. I don’t want to be a slutt. I curled my chestnut brown hair because Nadine told me that I’m a lot hotter when my hair was curled. UH-OH. Nadine again. I’m supposed to forget about her right? Well not totally forgot, just move on.

“Hey Maedine.” Darren greeted me with a huge grin on his handsome face. He wore a simple blue collar shirt and a pair of jeans. His hair as always was tousled. He looks great.

“Happy birthday Darren!”

“Thanks.” He blushed. “You look beautiful.”

Now it’s my turn to blush. “Thanks.”

“Would you like to see the whole house?”

“Sure.”

He toured me at their house. Their house like I said earlier is pretty big. It’s bigger than I expected. We’re on his room now.

“Your place is great.” I commented.

“Thanks.” He allowed a smile. “Btw, I would like to tell you something.”

“What is it?” I asked, confused

“Nevermind”

“No tell me, what is it?” I insisted, totally confused

“I think I -.” He trailed off. No this couldn’t be happening. “I like you.” He confessed.

“What? Are you drunk?” shock crossed my face

“I wish Iam.” He admitted

“You know Da-.” He cut me off.

“Maedine do you like me too?” he asked

I’m planning to say a sorry no answer but yes slipped in my mouth easily. “Yes.” I said

He gave me a joyous smile. Then he leaned his lips on mine. I don't know what to do first.

Just then an idea struck in my head. Yes, I’ll use him. I’ll use to forget about Nadine. I’ll use him to move on.

So I kissed him back. Our tongues twined. We kissed for a moment. After a couple of minutes we finally break apart.

“Sorry I don’t have a gift.” I apologized

"You kidding? This is the best gift ever." then our lips met once again.
