Chapter 2~ the Note

March 4th, the same New York Loft.

I woke up the next day to the smell of freshly grinded coffee. The window was open and there was a light breeze flowing in through the window. I loved mornings if I could get up, the color of the world just looks fresh and new. I loved that look. I slowly stood up pushing away the old tattered grey and red blanket off of my lap and sleepily stride into the kitchen. I ran my fingers through my soft thick brown hair as Blaise shot a beautiful white smile at me.

“Good Morning.” I winked at her cockily, which made her smile as she set down a bright red cup right in front of me. I lifted the warm cup up to my lips and jumped when the hot liquid touched my tongue. “Holy hell this is hot Blaise!”

“Oh yeah by the way its hot be careful.” Blaise smirked at me as I noticed a tear forming in the corner of her big brown puppy dog eyes. I glanced at her again to see her perfect skin and her long brown hair that formed her face perfectly.

“Dear, what’s wrong?” I asked her setting the cup back down as I glided back into the front room grabbing all the dirty popcorn bowls. I stacked the bowls and walked back into the kitchen placing them in the stainless style dish washer.

“Nothing its nothing okay.” Blaise said quietly as she glared at the letter Dean had left me. I forgot I left it on the island.

“Blaise I know you better than that, you can tell me.” I said brushing my hand over her shoulder. She jumped a little at my touch and then turned around faking a smile.

“Nothing Zoe, don’t worry about it please.” She said walking over to the sink and filling up a cup of cold water. The slowly walked towards the sliding glass doors placed near the left of the front room. She slid the doors open holding the cup as she left the room and walked over to the lily. She poured the water in it and smiled as she ran her hand over the pretty little pink petal. I smiled and started laughing. Her mud color eyes shot up and gave me a look of confusion.

“What?” She asked standing up slowly as the wind whipped the hair around her face. I smiled and walked over to the plant again.

“Looks Real doesn’t it?” I chuckled pulling on the petal to show her the flower was just plastic.

“Seriously.” She screeched in a panic. I walked over to her and placed my arm around her shoulder and led her back into the front room. An angry Brandy was up shaking out her long blonde locks.

“What the hell is up with all the jabbering guys?” Brandy snapped walking over to my computer and sitting down. “Hey Zoe, babe you have a message from some weirdo named Erik….Ahh, are you having an affair?”

“What hell no what does it say?” I ran over to the computer with the words pouring out of my mouth like a river.

Yes I do know you and I think you’re rather beautiful” The message said. I read it over and over in my head. Wait a minute why didn’t my phone bleep if I had a message. I searched around the room only to see my blackberry was missing. “Guys where’s my phone?” I asked quickly as I ran around the room in a panic, stepping over the sleeping Carmen and shoving Blaise and Brandy out of my way. I made my way around the room noticing a pale sun faded black phone. I ran over grabbing it and tossing it up into the air. Then catching it quickly between my fingers.

“Got it.” I smiled at my friends as I walked back into the kitchen. Carmen was now standing up with a growl in her throat and a frown forming at the corners of her mouth. My stomach churned and flipped as she ran her hands over her pale face.

“Hey Zoe can I see a letter you watched Dean write or sign because this doesn’t look like his hand writing to me?” Blaise asked as she delicately held the note Dean had left me in her petite hands. Her eyes searched over the paper then through the stack on the table.

“Sure.” I said awkwardly stumbling back into my bedroom and opening up Deans drawer grabbing his filled planner out of his desk and walked back into the kitchen. I handed the planner to Blaise as she eagerly reached for it. She was like a child reaching for a lollypop or a puppy for puppy chow.

“That’s his old planner, the times and date didn’t match up anymore so he has a new one now but I guess he must have forgotten to throw it away.” I said as my eyes flutters a crossed the leather bound book with a pale blue ribbon sewn into the pages. A pang of fear ran through my veins feeling like a million needles has just brushed a crossed my skin. I shook it off as I watched Blaise study the notebook and the note.

“These are not written by the same person Zoe.” Blaise said glancing up at me with fear in her eyes. My heart jumped and I rushed over pushing her out of the way. I looked at the note and planner comparing the writing. I shook my head in shock.

“Okay your playing a creepy trick on me Blaise now knock it off there’s nothing different about these. Its defiantly Deans handwriting.” My words shot out like sharks attacking a school of fish. I jumped in shock that I had just said those things to one of my best friend.

“Look!” Blaise snapped at me grabbing the note and the planner pushing them right up to my eyes. “Look at the T’s his lines are crooked and the ones on here are straight.”

“So what does that mean?” I stated denying everything. I ripped the book out of her hands and looked at it. There was nothing different that I could see.

“It means he didn’t write the note Zoe.” Brandy joined in. I rolled my eyes and folded my arms cocking my hips. I blinked hard feeling tears forming in the corner of my eyes. I pushed all the emotions down to the pit of my stomach and stared at each and every one of my friends. Brandy was looking at me with worry as she picked the dead skin off her fingers. Carmen had just barley walked into the room with a yellow toothbrush hanging out of her mouth. Her soft smooth hair was now messy and sprawled all over her face. She stopped mid stride and look at the three of us.

“What’s going on?” She asked spitting tooth paste and mumbling. Brandy looked at her in disgust and Blaise spoke up.

“Carmen didn’t you ever learn not to talk with your mouth full?” Blaise said teasingly as Carmen cocked her head and gave her a Shut-up-I-just-woke-up look. “Um we think the note supposedly left by Dean is a fake.”

“It is not!” I snapped back at both of them still with my hands folded a crossed my chest. I shook my head and let out a long fiery sigh.

“It is to Zoe and you know it.” Brandy mumbled as she sat down in the  large wood chair.

Carmen walked over to the sink and spit. She quickly turned on the faucet washing away her toothpaste and spit. She cleaned out her Oral-B toothbrush and turned around looking at all the girls wiping her mouth.

“Eww gross Carmen.” Blaise snarled not even bothering to turn her head and look at Carmen in the eye. Carmen stuck her tongue out at Blaise and walked over next to me. I sipped my coffee as I leaned against the clean table.

“Why wouldn’t Dean write that letter.” Carmen asked ignoring Blaise’s I’m-the-boss-back-off attitude. My eyes fluttered from Carmen to Blaise then to Brandy. They all stood there still looking at the notes.

“Okay Seriously do you guys think that Dean just randomly up and disappeared.” I stated as I ran my hand through my hair for about the fifth time during this early morning.  I glanced over at the clock to see it flash to 11:15 a.m. Holly shit its not as early as I thought.

“Yes Zoe.” Blaise and Brandy said in perfect unison. There eyes snapped over to one another glaring at each other. I rolled my eyes again.

“Well good to know were thinking logical here.” I mocked them as I walked over to the mail pile on the table. I sorted it out to junk mail and bills. I torn the junk mail up and placed the bills in a neat pile.

“Okay Zoe then where is he?” Brandy asked looking confused..

“Business trip duh.” I stated throwing my hands up in the air. “Haven’t you guys read the note?”

“Dean’s a Mechanic he doesn’t go on business trips?” Blaise stated as she held the note tightly in her hands.

“Ugh read the note again misses, it explains everything there.” I snapped as I walked back into the front room flipping on the TV. Dean wasn’t missing he couldn’t be missing he loved me he wouldn’t leave. Would he?
