Chapter 3~ Just Up and Gone.

March 11th. One Week after Zoe’s Birthday party.

I woke up to the sound of a chiming annoying alarm clock. I rolled over sleepily and slapped my hand down on the top. I loved having one where you hit the top and it stops. Then when your angry it woke you up you have a little moment of pay-back. I slowly rolled up and pushed the covers away. I pushed my stiff body out of bed and walked over to my dresser pulling out a pair of skinny jeans and a 3 doors down tee shirt. I placed the tee over my head and pulled it over my limp body. I grabbed the skinny jeans and slid my legs into the  holes pulling up the tight waist band placing it on my hips. I walked over into my bathroom and flipped on the switch.

The lights flickered then fluttered to life. I glanced at my reflection in the mirror. A frown formed on my lips and my eyes glared at what they saw. My long brown almost black hair laid over my shoulders in two braids. I reached up and grabbed the first elastic and slowly slid it down my split ends. My mouth open wide in a yawn. I slowly untwined my hair and pulled out  the second elastic. My hair then laid crimp on my shoulder. I did the same with the other side.

Fluffing my hair out I ran a comb through it to make sure I didn’t look that bad. I bent down opening the oak cupboard and pulled out my make-up bag placing it on the sink. I pulled out my cover girl cover up and placed it evenly a crossed my pale skin. I then grabbed my natural eye shadow running the soft brush over my eyes. I placed the mascara brush to my eye then ran it through my lashes. As my lashes grew my smile widened.

My blackberry buzzed from the bed stand meaning I had gotten a text message. I ran over to my phone and picked it up cradling it in my hands. The screen said one new message and I clicked open reading the message quickly.

hey Zoe, are you busy today maybe we can hang out ~ Brandy

My fingers ran over the keypad then quickly typed the words sorry cant today running errands. I clicked send then set my phone down on the sink next to my make-up bag. I quickly grabbed a clear lip shine and ran it over my lips tell they were nice plump and shiny.  My phone buzzed again and I jumped as my hand flew up to my chest as if I were keeping my heart from jumping out. I mumble a shallow growl and grabbed my phone clicking the open button.

Zoe what’s wrong? I asked you yesterday if you wanted to hang today and you said yeah sure, now your turning me down? What happened? ~ Blaise

I frowned as I quickly typed “Sorry Blaise stuff came up I need to go see Nicole and my mom I’m just busy sorry.” I dropped my phone on my bed as I walked out of the bathroom then threw my room and into the loft. I walked over to the large rectangle sliding door and opened the blinds letting the warm fresh sunshine fill the room. I smiled to myself as I walked back into my room grabbing my phone and walking out onto my porch.

The porch over looked the whole city of New York. There were distance sounds of honking and people yelling. Cars made wiring noises as they sped on passed. I was lucky to live on the top floor so there were no others porches blocking my view of the sky. Everything was so open up here and I enjoyed spending time.

I grabbed my blackberry and held the cold plastic in my hands. I quickly flipped the screen on and scrolled through my contacts until Dean’s name popped up on screen. I clicked call and the phone started to ring. The phone rang four time then went to his voice message. So I decided to text him.

“Hey babe, how’s your trip going is everything all right I haven’t talked to you in over three weeks I’m starting to get worried. You wont answer your phone or call me what’s going on babe?” I quickly typed as I felt a hot tear form in the corner of my eye threatening to fall down my face. I forced myself to pull my tears away as I ran my hand over my eyes drying the tears. Then my blackberry started ringing. My heart jumped and I quickly went to grab my phone off my lap. I was so happy the phone was ringing that when I grabbed it the phone slipped out of my hands and skid a crossed the patio. The phone zoomed a crossed the ground it landed just a little off the edge. If it had gone any farther it would have fallen off. I sighed and grabbed my phone holding it up to my ear and answering.

“Hello.” I said as I tried to catch my breathe.

“Hello is this Zoe Richards, Fiancée of Dean Schiefer?” A Deep voice made its way through the phones speaker. If I had to guess what the man looked like I was say a man a little over weight bald and all covered in grease because he called in his spare moment of fixing a car or motorcycle.

“Yes this is, may I ask who’s calling?” I said trying to act professional.

“This is Larry Warrant from The Warrant Car Center. I’m calling to ask you if you know where Dean is? He hasn’t been to work for over three works here and we haven’t heard anything from him.” Larry said as a loud drill or some other tool started screeching in the background. I heard Larry turn around and yell at the person who was obviously using the tool.

“What Dean left me a note telling me that you guys were starting a new chain to the company and that he had to go on a business trip to figure out how to run it?” My heart started racing as I clutched the edge of the patio railing tell my knuckles turned white. My head started pounding and my vision started to blur. My knee’s started to shake as my body felt weak. My head felt light and vulnerable like I was going to faint.

“We haven’t had the money to expand in seven months? Is that all the note said?” Larry questioned through the phone. I could tell there was shock in his voice. He sounded like he was panicking as if somebody had just smashed there finger fixing something.

“No…that’s ….all it said.” I chocked out gasping for air. My throat felt like it was closing in on me. It was hard to breathe and my palms were getting sweaty. I closed my eyes trying to catch myself. Tears ran slowly down my cheek.

“Zoe are you okay?” Larry practically screamed through the phone. The wind still just blew like everything was okay. The cars still were stuck in traffic and horns still honked. People still screamed and laughed like nothing was happening. It was like nobody cared.

“No I am not Okay Larry!” I screamed through the phone as my body collapsed from underneath me. I sat there still holding onto the railing. Nothing good could come from this. Dean was either dead, kidnapped, or humping some bleach blonde tramp in Vegas.

“I’ll be over in a minute!” Larry shouted through the phone and then the line went dead. I dropped my black berry and laid there on the patio. I cried for at least a full five minutes. Then I started thinking about it. Why am I crying? Sure I have no clue where Dean is and hell yes that is a reason to cry but I don’t know what he is doing. I should have hope in him. I shouldn’t worry about him, if I really trust him then he wont be cheating on me. Maybe something happened that he cant tell me yet. I will only know if I talk to him. I slowly stood up with my head still pounding. I wiped the tears away and walked into the kitchen grabbing a bag of Doritos out of the cupboard.

“Shit I  left my phone outside.” I muttered to myself as I threw the chips back on the table. The chips fluttered a crossed the table and on to the floor. I growled deep in my throat as I stepped over the scatter chips and headed back out to the patio. I grabbed my phone off the ground and check the time. 12:37 I watched as the numbers flashed a crossed the screen. I shoved the phone into my pocket and then walked back into the kitchen grabbing a chip off the table and plopped it into my mouth. I glanced around the room to see if anything needed tidying when the door bell rang.

I looked at the door as if it were on fire then slowly urged my way towards it. I was hoping Blaise was that mad that she would come and check up on me. I grabbed the door knob and slowly turned it. When I pulled the door open I saw a chubby man walk into my room. I was right, exactly right about how I thought Larry would look.

“Zoe are you okay?” Larry asked me panicked.

“What the hell are you doing here?” My voice shot up like a bird. I had such a high squeak that it even scared me that my voice would go that high. I looked around the room making sure it was okay for guests.

“I came here to check on you, you sounded like you were having an asthma attack on the phone I didn’t know if you needed help.” Larry said taking a step towards me. I folded my arms and looked at the ground feeling the tears form in my eyes again.

“Larry I’m fine you can go now.” I said grabbing his arm and pushing him over to the door. I opened the door and pushed him out waving as he noticed what I was doing. “Bye see you whenever I see you.”

I grabbed my blackberry and searched through my contacts again. I quickly scrolled through the contacts and selected three contact. Blaise, Carmen, and Brandy. The phone started ringing and Brandy answered first.

“Hey Zoe What’s up?” Brandy asked ecstatically.

“Hold on Brandy I’m calling Blaise and Carmen to I need to tell you guys something.” I stated as the phone still rang. Carmen finally answered and seconds later Blaise answered next.

“Okay guys I really need to talk to all three of you. I’m not telling you in person so do you think you can meet me for dinner at six?” I asked holding the phone up to my ear and talking into the speaker.

“Um I have to train with the lead coach for the new dance we will work on after this one, seven thirty will work better for me.” Brandy said as I heard chomping through the phone.

“Okay then how does seven thirty sound to you guys?” I asked again as I heard muffled voices in the background.

“Yeah that works for me, I cant stay to late though because I have papers to correct, I wish I was a dancer like you guys.” Carmen moped.

“Carmen don’t you like being a teacher?” Blaise said as I heard her pop her knuckles in the background.

“I love seeing the kids but I don’t like actually having to be there and the hours it sucks.” Carmen said as her  voice cracked through the phone speaker.

“That’s mean Carmen.” I said jokingly as a smile crept its way a crossed my face.

“I know I know I hate myself.” Carmen said. “ill see you at the resteraunt tonight, where are we going exactly?”

“I was thinking Village Inn.” I said to my friends.

“Okay works for me.” Blaise and Carmen both said at the same time.

“Sounds great then.” Said Brandy.

“Okay well then I’m going to go bye guys.” Blaise said as she hung up.

“Carmen and Zoe I’ve got to go.” Blaise said as she hung up.

“Okay well Carmen I’ll let you get back to work. See you tonight.” I said hanging up and dropping my phone on the ground. How am I going to explain this to them?
