For the most part, everything looked normal in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. There was one major fact about Bangkok that eluded its inhabitants, though: it had been built over an underground temple.

As George Louis walked through the temple, he looked around in awe at the many pillars that supported it. He was not there to sightsee, though. He was actually looking for something in the secret temple.

He continued to walk around the temple for ten more minutes, when he saw something glowing behind a pillar several yards away. He walked towards the light, and when he looked behind the pillar, he saw an altar, with a glowing object of some sort resting on it. George slowly walked closer to the altar to get a better view of the object, and gasped when he saw that the glowing object was a dagger. Of course, this was no ordinary dagger. This was Satan’s dagger; a dagger that shone so bright, it seemed to be made out of light. He walked up to the altar, and looked at the magnificent dagger in awe as he touched it.

He was about to pick it up, when he heard footsteps behind him. He stopped touching the dagger, and turned around to see a man named Seej Senoj. George looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

“I didn’t expect to see you during my time in Bangkok,” said George as he put his hands in his pockets, “I certainly didn’t expect to see you…here.”

“Yeah,” began Seej as he walked towards George, “let me explain…”

Seej’s eyes widened in surprise when George brought out a pistol from his pocket, and slowly backed away with his hands up.

“What is there to explain?” asked George as he pointed the gun at Seej, “I told each of my other associates to take refuge in a country I hoped possessed a weapon I could use. I instructed you to tell me if there was anything in your home country I could use, and you told me there wasn’t. You betrayed me, and it’s a shame. You always knew how to amuse me.”

“George,” began Seej desperately, “I know this will sound crazy to you, but you need to listen to me. Taking that dagger from its altar will create a disaster! There’s a story behind that legendary dagger, and I think you could benefit from hearing it!”

“I don’t have the time for or the interest in such a story,” said George.

“Please…” pleaded Seej, “Just give me a few moments of your time.”

“Long ago, when spirits traveled into this world more often, they sometimes took possession of humans for amusement. They would go on rampages and kill anyone they wanted just because they could.”

“One day, while lying against a tree and thinking about what he could about the rampages, a man named Noitu encountered a spirit named Saivo. Noitu was initially wary of the spirit, but he quickly discovered that Saivo was a good hearted spirit that, for whatever reason, actually cared about humanity, and wanted to end the rampages the evil spirits went on. The two became friends, and often spoke of a dream they shared, one where spirits and humans would be able to coexist peacefully with each other.”

“After many days of discussion, while the two did not end up discovering a way to get spirits and humans to peacefully coexist, Noitu and Saivo finally thought of way to stop the rampages and bring peace to the human world. The two decided to create a device that could harm the evil spirits, for while man-made weaponry was capable of harming most of the humans the spirits possessed, some of the more powerful spirits simply could not be harmed with such. They dubbed their creation Satan’s dagger, which was created when Saivo implanted all of his power into a dagger Noitu had made himself. Unfortunately, that action cost Saivo its life.”

“Noitu had not wanted Saivo to sacrifice itself like that, for the two had become considerably close friends despite knowing each other for a short time, but Saivo told him that there was no other way for them to bring peace back to the human world. Fueled by his love for humanity and his love for Saivo, Noitu traveled everywhere he could and used Satan’s dagger to destroy the vessels the evil spirits had taken over. Usually when a host of a spirit is killed, the spirit is able to survive, but by using Satan’s dagger, Noitu was able to kill spirits as soon as they evacuated their vessels. As for the spirits that were more difficult to kill, he, as you know, sealed them into crystals that Saivo had created using its powers, and hid them away.”

“For many decades, Noitu protected the human world from evil spirits, and made sure that few knew of his existence, for he did not want the world to know he possessed a weapon powerful enough to kill anything in the universe.”

“After living his life ridding the human world of evil spirits, Noitu became deathly ill. He knew he would not live much longer, so he entrusted Satan’s dagger to his favorite offspring, the middle child, Leba. To his great surprise and great dismay, the other children were upset by his decision, for they did not appreciate how their father had favored Leba over them, and believed they would do a better job protecting the world. Much like what happened with Joseph and his brothers in the Biblical story, Leba’s siblings attacked her because they wanted the legendary weapon. She managed to flee with the dagger, and continued to do her father’s will in secret.”

“When Leba was on her deathbed, instead of giving the dagger to her favorite child, she decided to do something with the weapon that her siblings would have found unfathomable had they known: she hid it.”

“Normally, Satan’s dagger should not have allowed a person to do anything else besides hurt any being in the universe with its blade, but because of her pure heart and desires, Leba, like her father, was able to use all the powers a pure-hearted person obtained when using Satan’s dagger. This special enhancement was a gift Saivo had decided to leave Noitu with. Leba used the power the legendary dagger granted her to create a hiding place for the weapon. That hiding place…is this very temple, the place where we stand right at this moment.”

“George, I don’t know how much attention you’ve been paying me all this time, but even if you’ve ignored everything else I’ve said, listen to this next part. Leba built this temple in such a way that if anyone removed the dagger from the altar, the temple would collapse. She did that to punish anyone who might try to obtain it. Now there aren’t that many layers of bedrock between this temple and the surface, so if this temple collapses…this city will fall…and you will die.”

George remained silent for a moment before he responded. “Do you realize…how much easier it would have been for me to find this place if you had told me about it in the first place?” he asked irritably, “You could’ve told me…that this incredible weapon…one capable of hurting any being in the universe…was located here…but you lied…I knew you had lied to me the last time we spoke about whether or not there was a weapon in Thailand, so I had to get Clark, one of the lackeys, to come to Bangkok, search your room, and look through your files, as well as spy on you, just so I could find out what and where the bloody hell the weapon was!”

“Did you really think I didn’t already know about this story of yours? Why do you think I barely objected when you told it to me? You had been idiotic enough to write it all in a journal Clark found in your room!”

“You know this whole thing is really upsetting to me! I would say sleep with one eye open tonight, but what does it matter? According to you, you’re going to die when I take that dagger anyway!”

Seej looked at George in complete disbelief as George huffed and puffed.

“Wait…are you serious?” he asked in frustration, “You still plan on taking the weapon, even with the knowledge that you’ll die?”

“You fool…” responded George with a maniacal grin, “Even if the city collapses on me…I won’t die. The question I think you should be asking yourself is if you’ll die from a gunshot wound…or because the entire city caved in on you.”

George shot Seej in the knee, and Seej yelped in pain as he fell to the ground and held his knee in pain.

“Is this really the choice you’re going to make?” asked Seej as he groaned in pain, “I joined your cause because I believed you would do good, but…are you…really going to sacrifice…millions of lives…just to achieve your goal?”

George ignored the inquiry, and walked up to the altar.

“Louis…don’t do this…”

Seej watched in great fear as George reached for the dagger.

“No!” he yelled desperately as George grabbed the weapon that could lead to his city’s destruction.

George slowly picked up the dagger, and looked at how brilliantly it shone, when the ground began to shake. An earthquake of the greatest magnitude was upon the city in a matter of seconds, and as pillars all over the temple began to break apart, George walked over to Seej, and looked down at him as Seej looked at him in fear.

“Sorry,” said George with a villainous grin, “but this is what you get for betraying me. Have fun in Heaven!”

He casually walked towards the exit, for he knew that the fall of the city would not be enough to kill him, and laughed as the entire city of Bangkok caved in on them.

Ruins now replaced every inch of what used to be the capital of Thailand.

All life seemed to have been extinguished, but in the midst of all the wreckage, there was one solitudinous person moving about, or to be more specific, trying to move about. He struggled to get a large rock off his body.

He groaned as he struggled to get the rock off his lower body, and gritted his teeth as he slowly managed to lift it off him bit by bit. After a few minutes, he managed to get the rock completely off himself, and used his remaining strength to throw it aside.
He slowly sat up, and panted as he rubbed his eyes, for dirt had gotten into them when the city had fallen to the ground. He rubbed his eyes for about thirty seconds, and slowly opened his now slightly teary eyes.

He saw two figures lying before him, but they initially were not clearly visible to him because of his teary eyes. As his vision slowly cleared up, however, the man recognized the two people lying before him, but it took him slightly longer to register what had happened to them, for he was still dazed. His eyes slowly widened as he slowly realized that his mother and father were now dead, and he looked at their lifeless bodies with his mouth agape.

More tears welled up in his eyes as he looked at them, and he became incomprehensibly morose as the fact that his parents were lying dead before him began to sink in. It was too much for him, and his mind began to crack. His breathe rate began to increase, and he held his head as he began to scream in anguish.

He now seemed to be truly inconsolable.

His cry was so powerful, so forceful, that it could be heard throughout the ruins of Bangkok.

Unfortunately, everyone in Bangkok who would have usually helped him, been there for him, during such a truly distressful time was...
