The rubble that had collapsed atop of Wes was still and there wasn’t any hint of movement. The demon was now walking towards me with his red eyes piercing into mine. I took a step back and this only seemed to amuse him, a smile spread across his face. His human form was a tall well-built man, his structure was masculine but not enough to throw a person through a concrete wall no that was the demons strength.

“Grab her,” Brent demanded and the demon suddenly moved forward to grab me but I was too quick and slipped his grip quickly. I was now ready for a new attack.

“I didn’t think demons listened to humans, I mean I don’t know much about them anyways,” I said in a smug tone trying to taunt him and catch him off guard. I had to make sure Wes was okay.

“We don’t but sometimes things happen that we can’t avoid,” he said in a booming firm tone.

“A big tough demon like you couldn’t avoid a sad little human like him,” I asked giving him a small smirk. We were now circling around watching each other’s moves very carefully. Our movements were effortless and smooth. I could see something in his eyes as if he was trying to tell me something but I couldn’t make sense of it.

“Well a big tough demon like you could end this all here and now,” he said.

“I am not a demon, I am a vampire,” I said to him and he smiled.

“You are a demon if you want to admit it or not. That is why your heart beats, also why all those years ago that you destroyed that town,” he said and I narrowed my eyes at him.

“How did you know about that,” I asked and he gave me a small wink.

“Because back then I was the one that you were supposed to me wedded too, but then he came along and demanded a challenge and became the new demon lord,” he said aiming his attention to were Wes was buried but when we looked the stuff had been moved. Wes was now standing in front of me and they were growling at one another.

“Go Rain, finish this,” Wes said and went for him. I went straight for Scarlet and let her out of her restrains. When she was no longer tied up she freed herself to talk.

“What the hell is going on,” was the first thing that popped out of her mouth.

“I can’t explain right now,” I said to her while I looked at her bruises and split lip, I felt horrible because this was entirely my fault.

“I’ve seen demons and vampires, what’s next? Werewolves,” she said but I could hear the seriousness in her voice.

“Leave the building and we will talk when I finish things.” I said to her and she stared at me long and hard before finally nodding her head.

“No vanishing acts, I’m holding you to your word,” she said and I hugged her tight but not tight enough to break any bones. She hugged me back and then she was off. I turned to face Brent but he was no longer there. I ran to the only direction he could have gone. The hallway was long and dark but I could hear footsteps running off in front of me.

I was in front of him before he had a chance to make it outside, he stumbled back and gasped. His hands went up in defense and he scrambled to find his words. “Wait Rain, before you do something stupid I have information,” he said and I growled softly.

“What do I care, it’s probably a trick,” I said and moved closer to him has he took another step back.

“Wouldn’t you like to know what kind of things you are capable of,” he asked and I stopped walking towards him.

“The only thing I wasn’t to be capable of is putting an end to you,” I said to him and I could see the fear start to enter his eyes.

“But you don’t know why you were abandoned as a child and I’m sure you want to know don’t you,” he said and I looked at him curiously. I have always wanted to know why I was left in the cold rain all those years ago. I took a deep breath and kicked my foot into his chest causing him to fly back across the floor in a loud groan of pain. I was on top of his and nearly sunk my teeth into his throat when I stopped. “Amducious” he said and I couldn’t move. I was frozen in place and he was now smiling.

“Get up” he commanded and I did exactly what he said, he got us and stood in front of me. It was as if I didn’t have control of my body. I tried to say something but nothing would come out. What had he done to me? “Looks like this is the way it has to be, oh and if you were wondering why you can’t do anything it’s because I used your true name. You are now my bitch,” he said and I wanted to rip his head off, but he was right. I didn’t have control over myself and my body wouldn’t do anything I tried to will it to do.

“Now let’s show you what you can really do,” he said and I wasn’t sure on what he meant but we walked into the room were Wes and the other demon were still fighting, sweat pouring down their faces. “That is enough,” he demanded and the demon stopped as he was about to land a blow on Wes.

So this is what he meant.

Wes turned to me and saw that I was standing next to Brent. He couldn’t understand why I hadn’t killed him yet. If I was able to talk I would have told him to run but I couldn’t. “Go to him,” Brent said to me and I began walking to Wes but as I got about half way he commanded me to stop. I tried to fight it but in the end I couldn’t win.

Common Rain you are stronger than this.

“Now it’s time for you to realize that you are more than just a vampire, strangle him,” he said and panic set in.

Run Wes! I yelled to him in my head but of course it was useless. I slowly lifted my hand towards him as if to choke him and he lifted his hand to his throat. I was strangling him and I wasn’t even touching him. “Release him,” he said and my hand dropped.

“Rain, what is going on,” Wes asked in confusion. I fought the control with all I could and finally I was able to speak.

“He is controlling us,” I said and looked at the demon who was now just standing there like I was. Wes looked directly at Brent and I could see the deep rage that he held. He started towards him.

“Stop him,” Brent yelled and I lifted my hand and threw it aside making Wes fly in the same way. I had no idea that I could do any of this and I really wanted to stop. I was terrified that Brent would make me hurt Wes and I wouldn’t be able to stop it, and his next words were the ones that I feared. “Use your full power and kill him,” he said and my eyes widened. I heard him leave and Wes was on his feet again.

“I won’t hurt you Rain,” he said and I looked at my hand as it started to redden. My fingertips were the first to catch fire and it soon spread to the rest of my body. I was now completely on fire and it didn’t burn me I couldn’t even tell that it was even there. Flaming footsteps were left as I walked forward and soon I ran full forward at him. My hand was straightened out ready to slice into his body. As I went for the strike he blocked my blow, holding his arm in front of mine.

We looked at one another and a small smile spread along his face as my fiery arm burned his skin. As I swung he blocked and soon he was covered in burns. I wanted to stop so badly that it hurt. Wes was starting to wear down from fighting the demon before and this time he didn’t block me. My hand went straight through his chest and the blood leaked out around my arm. He gasped from the pain and I felt my fingers wrapped around his heart.

This was the true strength that I needed to show and now. Not killing him.

I could hear Brent yelling at me to do it now and the more he commanded the harder it was for me to stop myself. I felt a tear fall from my eye and Wes wiped it away lightly. “Don’t cry,” he said but I could feel the pain in his voice.

“I am going to kill you,” I strained to say out loud.

“You are strong,” he said and I looked at Brent with utter rage. The small balcony he was on collapsed and he fell to the ground landing on a large pipe going straight through his stomach. He was right, I may be a demon but I am not the only one in here. I wasn’t was also a human girl once. I took my hand out from his chest and I could read the relief written all over his face. The demon that was being controlled was now gone and I couldn’t tell if he had left recently or while Wes and I were fighting, but it didn’t matter. It was all over. Brent was dead and things would be better.

Wes nearly collapsed into my arms and I held him up the blood was getting all over my clothes and he wasn’t healing. I laid him down on the ground in a panic and ripped the shirt he was wearing in half to take a look. I could see straight through to his heart and his insides were all burnt up.

He was nearly unconscious at this moment but he grabbed my hand tight into his and squeezed. “What do I do,” I asked in a shaky voice. “I just got you and I won’t let you die,” I said and his eyes were looking at me but I could tell that he was having a very hard time staying focused.

“You will have me again one day, just like I found you,” he said and with that his eyes closed. I couldn’t tell if he had truly died but I didn’t care. Everything hit me at once and the only thing I could do was scream in tears. As I screamed a bright light flashed and I was blinded. Anything after that I couldn’t remember.
