I shook the image of the dream from my thoughts and jumped up quickly. I didn’t want Sam to do his weird disappearing act again so I went to him quickly as he was about to walk out of my bedroom. I grabbed his arm and he stopped but he wouldn’t look at me. His body felt tense and super warm. My leg was no longer bleeding and like always growing those annoying little nasty scabs that I had an unhealthy addiction of picking off. My body healed extremely fast.

So it was time to get an answer for that million dollar question.

“I think you need to answer my question,” I said to him and he still wouldn’t face me. I finally let go of his arm and he didn’t make a move to leave. He was still and I could see his chest moving in rhythm with his breath. I took a step back and crossed my arms. “No more games. You come in here right now and you tell me what the hell is going on,” I said and he finally turned to me. His eyes were once again the soul absorbing green that caused my knees to give out, but not this time.

He walked back into my room and I kept my face serious as I watched him take a seat on my bed. The attitude was gone and the only thing left was the serious tension in the room. I took a seat back at my desk and grabbed my bag of Dorito’s and can of pop. I swung the chair around so that I was facing him. I put my chips in my lap and watched him. Waiting for him to say something.

He isn’t going to talk.

I started downing my drink. “I’m a vampire,” he said and I nearly choked my drink out all over me. I felt that annoying burning in my nose and I scrunched it up in discomfort. When the feeling disappeared and I was once again allowed access to air in my lungs I looked at him.

“A vampire,” I asked and he nodded, I cracked a smile. “You really expect me to believe that? A vampire.” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Like the ones from Twilight?” I asked and he cocked his head to the side in confusion. “Do you sparkle in the sun also,” I asked him and he still didn’t seem to understand.

“What’s a twilight.” He asked and I looked at him crossly.

“You have never heard of Twilight,” I asked in mere shock. He shrugged his shoulders.

“It’s a series of books and movies about vampires and werewolves. Sparkle in the sun and feed from animal blood. Some have super powers as well.” I said and I could see the displeasing look on his face. I smiled and shook my head. “I don’t much care for it but it’s not all that bad. The books were nice.” I finished but his humorous expression remained the same.

“That’s what you guys think vampires are,” he said as I was stuffing the chips in my face. I crunched them loudly and licked the seasoning from my fingers.

“Then since your such a vampire you tell me what they are really like.” I said and he looked at me. That mysterious look was once again in his eyes and he no longer possessed that confusion.

“Why are you not terrified that you have a vampire in your room,” he asked and I shrugged. Honestly I didn’t have a single clue why I wasn’t screaming and running the heck away from him. Anyone else probably would, but instead I sat here eating my junk food and looking in the eyes of death. But I think a part of me didn’t believe him, and the other part completely believed.

“I don’t know, if you are a vampire than why do you feel warm, or why doesn’t the sun bother you.” I said and he ran his hand through his hair. “I mean vampires are supposed to be dead and cold.” I added and he looked at me.

“We are, our heart doesn’t beat and we remain cold. I don’t know what you are feeling, and after you age the sun stops bothering you.” he said and looked into my eyes.

The soul warming, knee knocking feeling returned and so did those pesky butterflies that made me feel all weird inside. It would make since for him to be a vampire because he looked so perfect. I felt my heart race and an even more attracted to him now that I knew that there really was something completely different about him.

This is so wrong.

“So how old are you,” I asked and watched him curiously. He sighed and made himself comfortable because he was about to sit here a while and until I was satisfied with the truth.

“I’ve lost count,” he said and he finally smiled. I could see the Sam that I knew come back to life within him and it made me smile as well. “I am probably about 200 now.” He said as if it was no big deal and he even shrugged it off too.

“200 years old,” I said in absolute shock. I probably had a giant O engraved onto my mouth and looked like a giant loser. The only thing missing was a large L on my forehead.

“I said about 200,” he said and I could hear the sarcasm return.

“What does it matter, that is still a hell of a lot of years to be alive,” he laughed at my baffled state. I soon recovered and put all my things back on my desk. I stood and dusted off all the stray crumbs that didn’t fall as I stood. I crossed my arms and he watched me closely. “If I am going to believe you I want some cold hard proof,” I said and he stood up. The relaxed humor was gone off of his face and he frowned.

“I shouldn’t have even told you that I was a vampire. I need to go,” he said as he started to move for the door. I snagged his arm and held it as if he was the only one keeping me from falling over a cliff. He didn’t pull to fight me but instead looked down at me and our eyes met. His body was warm under my touch and I felt my heart racing out of control. We had been looking into each other’s eyes for a little over a minute and then his fangs grew from his gums. Right were the canines were and they were sharp.

He wasn’t kidding.

I wasn’t even afraid or jostled by this new founded information. I let go of his arm and in that response he moved the hair behind my ear and leaned close enough I could feel his breath against my skin. The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up and my face was burning bright red.

“You should rest,” he whispered into my ear. I could see the clock on the nightstand by my bed and it was only 11:30. I backed away from him and he dropped his hand to his side.

“I’m alright, I don’t really sleep much anyways.” I said and then smiled. “Unless you’re tired.” I teased him and he gave one of his cute half smiles. I took a seat in my chair again.

“I don’t sleep often either,” he said and walked over to my desk. I watched him and spun the chair so that it was facing him as he walked. He started moving papers around on my desk and he took interest in one of my older personal sketch books. I went to snag it quickly but he had it in his hand in a single blink. I frowned and got up to take it from him.

Damn it.

When I got close to his he grabbed my hand and spun me into him. He was holding both of my arms down as I was struggling to free myself from his manly vampire strength. It was no use and I grew tired. I huffed out a long breath and heard the pages flip. “You know just because you are a great old vampire doesn’t mean you can treat me this way.” I said and I heard him laugh.

“You think I’m old,” he asked and I rolled my eyes.

“Yes, you are an old man,” I said and I heard the smirk. I smiled and he finally let me go.

“These are really good,” he said after I turned to him with anger in my eyes.

“Yea but they are personal,” I said and he thumped my nose like he had on the porch.

“Personal information, for a peak at personal belongings seems like a fair trade.” He said with a wink and walked to my dresser. “I mean I could have peeked here,” he put his hand on my underwear and bra drawer. I walked to him and shoved him from the dresser.

Ugh, what an air head.

“No you won’t, now hand me that.” I snapped and went to grab it again but like before he had it out of my reach before I had a chance.

“I have two questions and if I like your answer to one of them I will gladly hand it back to you,” he said and I could see that mysterious look in his eye as he smiled at me. This is one of those moments I wish that I could get into his head and get all that juicy information out. I narrowed my eyes at him and nodded slowly.

“Alright, and if you don’t like my answer,” I asked and he teasingly held it in front of me.

“I think I will take it to my place and enjoy it there,” he said and winked at me. I flushed in embarrassment and sighed.

“Fine ask your silly questions,” I said and he opened to one of the pages. The drawing was of me and my uncle when I was still really young, we were holding hands and walking around the fair. Well I called him my uncle but I honestly had no idea who he was to me. He used to come and visit me every once in a while when I was a child but he stopped after I turned 12. It was one of my favorite memories, the entire sketch book was of all my most treasured memories.

He held it up to me and I looked at him blankly. “How do you know this man,” he asked and his expression changed from smiles and jokes to seriousness.

“He’s my uncle, well I called him that but I have no idea if he is even my real family. He has known my mom since before I was born, His name is Brent Carver.” I said and shrugged. “What does that matter,” I asked.

“Because I know him,” he said and I could tell it didn’t seem to be a good kind of knowledge. “No one is to know that you know me or have contact with me,” he said and his voice was stern. It was even a little scary to hear him this way.

“Why, does that mean you’re going to be leaving,” I said and he shook his head. I could feel the relief of his answer and on the inside I was cheering with joy.

“Because people aren’t supposed to know that we exist, and because now that you do know people are going to start coming to you and asking about me,” He said.

“How are they going to even know about me, much less that you told me your big bad secret.” I said with a smile and nudged his arm with my hand. He didn’t smile and his expression stayed hard.

“Vampirism is a race of power and kind of like the government the highest of power doesn’t want people to know certain things. So they always find out when someone spills their guts and they aren’t very happy about it. You do realize that you entered a dangerous world by making me tell you,” he said and his face softened up and I could see concern in his eyes. This made me smile and shrug.

“I have lived a pretty normal life and that means boring, and I’m not really worried about it, so bring it on!” I said and this actually made him laugh. “But I am a little curious how you know Brent.” I said and he gave me a look.

“If I tell you, you might look at him in a whole new way,” he said and I shrugged.

“Well you told me that you were a 200 year old dead man that sucked human’s blood to survive,” I said and we both cracked a smile and laughed together. I looked at him and that attraction was so uncontrollably strong that I didn’t know how to hold back anymore, but I didn’t want to look desperate or something, so I continued to be a hard ass.

“He is the head of an origination that is supposed to bring vampires to the top, a lot of us don’t care about it and actually like being in the dark. Makes people think that we are just way more sexy.” He said with a wink and I pretended to gag. This made him smirk and I laughed.

He was right, the mysterious vampires looked way hotter.

“Well you are starting to become predictable so I better go find one that knows how to stay with the program,” he frowned and I stuck my tongue out at him.

“You don’t mean that do you,” he said with a sad frown on his face and I felt bad for saying what I did.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you,” I said and I was about to ramble on with some cheesy apology when a sly smile crossed his face.

“It looks like you are losing your spunk, I might have to find someone else.” He said and my mouth dropped. He did not just pull my own joke on me. I punched his arm and he rubbed it as if I actually caused him physical pain.

“So he wants to make vampires the rulers of the world, how does he plan to do that,” I asked and we sat on my bed. I fell back and looked at my ceiling.

“He wants to make the ultimate vampire, one that can rule the rest,” he said and watched me. I looked back at him and he continued filling me in on the details. “A little over 18 years ago there was a rumor that he was trying to create a vampire that would be stronger than the rest no matter what age it would be,” he said and I nodded.

“And do you know if he actually succeeded,” I asked and he shrugged.

“He has announced it to the rest of his comrades that he had but I’m not sure. He isn’t a vampire himself. He is just a human on a power trip, that’s what I think anyways.” He said and I giggled a little.

“You have much to learn my friend, all humans are on a power trip. It’s called the Government.” I said and this made us laugh together. “But if he isn’t a vampire then how would he have made a super vampire,” I asked and again he shrugged.

“No one knows.” He said and I handed my hand out. He looked at it as if he had never seen one before and raised one of his eyebrows. “What,”

“My sketch book,” I said blankly and he smiled showing all his teeth. His fangs were no longer there but instead all of his normal looking human teeth.

“Not quite,” he said and I frowned.

“What, I answered all your questions,” I said and sat up on my arms.

“I still have the last one,” he said and I narrowed my eyes at him.

“Then get to asking because I just might fall asleep before you get a chance to,” I said and a large yawn escaped my mouth. The time had really flown by and it now said it was 1 in the morning. About the usual time I went to bed. He smirked.

“Okay, okay,” he said with his arms in the air. “I was going to ask if you wanted to go out with me tomorrow,” he said and I couldn’t hear anymore sarcasm or teasing in his voice.

He was serious.

I thought about it long and hard to torture him with my delayed response. Even though I knew he was freaking out inside about my answer he remained calm and patient for me. I gave him a smile and nodded. “Sure, that would be nice.” I said and he tossed the book next to me. “But what about having people not know about us having contact.” I asked and he shrugged.

“I think we have a little bit of time before shit hits the fan, plus I thought you wanted to live dangerously,” he said with a wink and I smile sleepily.

“Your right, it sounds exhilarating.” I replied.

“Then you better get some sleep, I will see you tomorrow Rain,” he said and I nodded. My eyes were as heavy as led at this point and just me laying on my bed was making it nearly impossible to stay awake. I soon gave into the arms of sleep and it embraced me tightly. I couldn’t even remember if I had told Sam goodnight before I was forced to enter the land of dreams.
