I woke up to the sound of the door bell ringing and it felt like it was right in my ear. I groaned and stayed in bed waiting for the person to bug off but the doorbell kept ringing. I looked at the clock on my night stand and slapped my hand against my face in irritation.

7 o’freaking-clock. Really!

I threw the blankets off of me and sat up on my bed. Whoever it was, was about to wait even longer if they wanted my attention so bad. I stretched with a large yawn and got off the bed. The sun was pouring into my room and I walked to the bathroom. My hair was a crazy mess and sticking up all over the place. I grabbed my brush and took out all the knots. After I felt satisfied I walked out of my bedroom.

I sluggishly walked down the stairs and started stretching half way down. I walked to the door and unlocked it. When I opened the door I snapped out of my drowsy un-functional state. Brent was standing there with his hands in his back pockets. He was wearing flared blue jeans and a button up long sleeved red and black collared shirt. His brown hair was a mess and he had a scruffy shadow along his face. His eyes were still that dark brown that you could mistake as black.

He smiled at me and walked himself in and I didn’t do anything to stop him. He didn’t seem different. He was exactly the way that I remembered him, cheery and a very positive vibe. He tuned on one of our lamps and plopped onto the recliner we had facing towards the front door. He was watching me now and I shrugged off the awkwardness.

Time to act cool.

I smiled at him and shut the door. “Hey, where have you been, I thought that you dropped off the face of the earth,” I said and this made him give me one of his playful laughs that I remembered from being a child.

“No just been really busy, I was in town and thought that I would drop by,” he said and leaned back in the chair with his hands behind his head. “How have you been kid,” he said and I frowned.

I hated when people called me kid.

I held my finger up and I pointed it at him. “Okay, one I am no longer a kid so don’t call me that. I am 18, and two, I will be back because I would like to at least look decent.” I said as I turned away from him and went back up the stairs. I entered my room and grabbed some of my average clothing. I pulled on a pair of black tights and a purple long sleeve shirt. I snatched my phone from the charger and typed in Sam’s name. I pulled up a new text message.

“Hey, um Brent is at my house right now,” I sent the message and put my phone in the tights so that it was sticking to my stomach. I took the stairs two at a time and when I was back in the living room Brent was gone.

I heard noises coming from the kitchen and I walked in to find him pilfering through the fridge. He had one of my pops in his hand and when he closed the door he had a half-eaten sandwich in the other. I rolled my eyes and sat at the table. He hadn’t noticed that I had returned and I cleared my throat to get his attention. He sat in the chair in front of me and swallowed his mouthful.

“So what made you decide to drop by after all these years,” I asked and he gave me a smile. I didn’t want to play games anymore, I wanted answers.

“Well I thought that it would be nice to see my buddy again,” he said and I narrowed my eyes at him.

“I was 12 the last time that you were here, no calls, no nothing. What makes you come now,” I asked again and I could see the look in his eye change.

“Okay, can I be honest with you,” he said and I nodded.

“That’s what I have been waiting for,” I said flatly. He nodded and shoved the last bit of the sandwich in his mouth.

“I came here to get you,” he said with his mouth nearly full. I thought about the answer and sat up straighter.

“What now,” I asked and this time I was paying attention.

“I came here to get you, you are very important Rain,” he said and I looked at him crossly.

“I am an 18 year old girl. The only thing I am important for is graduating and maybe become an artist if I’m lucky,” I said and rolled my eyes at him as I got up. He did the same and we walked into the living room. I sunk into my spot of the couch and made myself comfortable. I crossed my legs and kept my eyes on him. He sat in the recliner again.

“You are very important. Like change the world important.” He said and I laughed. “What’s so funny,” he asked and I controlled myself.

“What, am I some kind of super hero,” I said still trying to keep from laughing but as soon as I said super hero I lost it.

“Rain this isn’t funny. I created you,” He said and I abruptly stopped laughing. I looked at him crossly.

“My mother and father created me.” I said and I looked at him disgustedly. His face was completely serious and he no longer looked like the man that I knew from my childhood.

“When your mother was pregnant with you I was by her side after your father left. I was giving her treatments every night after putting her to bed.” He said and I looked at him horrified.

“Gross! You were molesting my mother!” I shrieked. He shook his head and held his hands in the air.

“No, no, no,” he said. “I was giving her shots. For you. I was putting venom in her womb that was absorbed into your blood. It was venom from a vampire and a very powerful demon.” He said and smirked.

“So you are telling me that I am a vampire and a demon,” I said to him sarcastically. “Then where are my shiny fangs and whatever demons have,” I asked with my arms crossed.

“You were born human and the vampirism is still in your blood. The demon blood doesn’t make you demon, it just makes you stronger.” He said and I nodded. “You have to be changed into a vampire for you to tap into the true strength that you have within you.” He said and I sighed in irritation.

“And how does this help you. You’re not even a vampire.” I said to him and he smiled.

“That’s the point Rain, vampires are ruthless monsters and destroy the humans that they come in contact with. They are murderous and blood thirsty,” he said and I felt confused.

“Then why do you work with them,” I asked and he looked at me with narrowed eyes. My eyes widened after I realized what I had done. He didn’t know that I knew about him and now he does.

“How do you know about that,” he said and he was now at the edge of his seat. His stare was so intense that I felt defenseless. My red flags were going off like crazy in my head and I was also on the edge of my seat. My danger senses were tingling and I stood up as casually as I could. “How do you know about that Rain,” he said and I watched his hand in his back pocket as he had gotten up as well.

“I think that you should go, and take all that crazy with you,” I said.

Sam, where are you?

His eyes were hard to read but as he walked past me I felt like I was going to pass out. “I am really sorry that this had to happen,” he said and he pulled his hand out of his pocket. There was a small pocket knife in his hand and he swung it at me. I help my hand up and it cut into my arm, I felt the pain and in reflex I kicked behind his knee causing him to drop to the ground.

I ran around him and bolted up the stairs, it didn’t take him long to get on his feet again and he was hot on my heels. I made it to my bedroom and I slammed the door literally in his face. I locked it and he was banging it loudly. I looked around me and grabbed the bat that was in my closet.

The door flung open and he was standing in the frame breathing hard. I could see all kinds of crazy in his eyes and he started walking towards me slowly. I held the bat up and swung it. He ducked under my swing and I backed up, heart racing and terrified. I was finally backed up against the wall and the only thing between us was the bat and his knife. I swung it at him again and he grabbed it. After he pulled it out of my hand and tossed it across the ground I closed my eyes waiting for the pain to come. When nothing did I opened my eyes.

Sam was standing in front of me and the knife was in his chest. He pulled it out and tossed it to the ground. Brent’s eyes opened wide and he took off out my door. Sam didn’t go after him but instead turned to me. I could see the concern in his eyes as he looked me over and grabbed my arm which was bleeding. “Nice timing,” I said letting out the breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. I grabbed a cloth that I had laying on the ground and wrapped my arm with it. He wasn’t acting weird about it like he did before.

“Sorry I couldn’t be here sooner. I didn’t get to my phone until a few seconds ago,” he said and I nodded.

“It doesn’t matter, you saved my life.” I said and his face was no longer concerned.

“What happened,” he asked and I walked over to my bed. I took a seat and motioned for him to do the same.

“He told me that I was the one that you talked about. I am the ‘ultimate vampire’” I said and his face didn’t change. Instead he nodded and I could see that he was going over something in his head.

“We need to get you out of here,” He said and I smiled. The thought of vampires and all this drama didn’t scare me. It actually intrigued me, it was the most excitement I had ever had in my life.

“Change me,” I said and the response took him by surprise. He was no longer the serious bundle of joy that I realized was a very sexy side of him. I snickered at his awkward state and stood up. He just watched me in amazement. “What,” I asked. “Don’t tell me you are about to give me this speech about how vampires are monsters and kill people. That you don’t have a soul and blah, blah, blah. I’ll save you the trouble. I watched twilight,” I said and he smiled. I wasn’t expecting him to look so happy about my choice.

He was actually smiling. He wasn’t frowning or looking disappointed that I had decided to end my life for a very undead one.

“I wasn’t going to say no,” he said and I could see something in his eyes. Suspiciously I watched him.

“Then what’s the catch,” I said and this made him laugh.

“Be mine,” he said and I smiled.

“That’s all you want,” I said and he nodded.

“I have this really weird feeling about you. Not in a bad way but something just keeps screaming at me to make you mine.” He said and I felt my heart race.
