The music is loud and the lights are bright, strung everywhere. White Christmas-like lights hang from the celing, weaving their way across the celing. All around one big chandeleir that shines brighter than a disco ball. Stairways come down from the second floor and meet at a little cupid fountain. Snack bars aare everywhere, and from the looks of it, all the snacks are cake, cupcakes, cookies, icecream and punch. Huh. And, It's not as crowded as I thought it'd be, so that's good.

We walk in and look around for anyone we know. We see Katy and Trevon, and they don't look like they're having much fun. Well, Trevon's having fun with all the girls, but Katy's alone. I smile, feeling that she should have seen that one coming.

Cody takes my hand again. "Let's go dance!" His grip is insistant, but I pull back.

"I can't dance." I say blankly, knowing it's true. I'm the worst dancer ever.

"Sure you can." He says. Then he pulls me down the stairs, despite my protest.

"No, Cody, I can't. Especially in these shoes." I say insistantly, starting to blush again. I'm just going to emberess myself.

******

He tries to teach me how to dance, and he's a pretty good dancer, but after about ten songs, I finally quit. I walk to the snack bar and get some punch, bringing Cody along with me. We sit on stools and drink the disgustingly sweet drink down.

"Sorry for sucking so bad." I say, taking another swig of the liquid pixi-sticks.

"You weren't that bad." He says, smiling. "You've just had no expereience."

"Yeah..." I say, staring at my drink.

He sets down his drink, then keeps smiling at me.

"What?" I ask.

"Nothing." He says.

I smile and blush, then go back to staring at my drink. I shake it a little, watching it turn to waves as I think. I've never felt so shy before, and I've never showed it this much either. I usually hide in that shell, but it's gone now, for some reason.

Cody takes a long drink, then sets it back down. "Well, there's one dance that you can't possibly get wrong."

"Was that supposed to be encouraging?" I ask, raising a sharp eyebrow. But a smile, that same smile, creeps its way back onto my lips. It's just uncontrollable tonight.

"That sounded better in my head..." He mumbles "But yes. Now come on, a song is starting." I look up to the DJ and I see that he's dimming the lights, and putting little bright lights arpund the room like disco balls. Then the music changes to a slow song. I've never heard this song.

I've never slow danced before. Especially in heels. I'm going to kill myself.

Cody takes my hand and leads me out into the crowd of people. Everyone's so close...

We stop at the same spot as earlier, and he smiles. I smile back shyly, and he begins to put his arms around my waist. The air is nice and comfortable, and I'm not scared like I thought I'd be. I always think I'm going to be scared.

I start to say something, but suddenly I feel myself get ripped away.
