I happily walked home in the crisp spring air from Langford Preparatory School with my older brother, Chase. Summer had just begun and I was ready to leave the past week behind me and I was definitely looking forward to a crazy Manhattan socialite summer. But all of my plans for the summer faded when a glossy black Maybach drives by the sidewalk we were passing on. It took me less than two seconds to realize that it was our father's Maybach and that the windows were rolled down. I didn't care to take notice to the fresh new dents in the car, only the fresh new skank straddling my father and dropping her empty champagne glass out the window onto the black streets of upper east side New York.

"Chase, did you see that?"

I asked, shocked. I looked up at my 6"2' tough-guy brother and the single salty tear on his cheek said all I need to know. My lovely mother only passed away seven days ago and my father has already found a replacement. What went from the last day of school, turned into the last day of my life. Our lives were falling apart.

I just don't understand this. An affair? Well, it wasn't an affair since his wife died, but the divorce hasn't been officiated by the court yet, so it's still an affair. It makes absolutely no sense. Aren't fathers supposed to love their sons and daughters with all their might? Why doesn't my dad love me and my brother like that? What's wrong with us?

I opened the door to our townhome and sighed. As my father's driver parked the car around the back, I heard him walking towards the foyer with a new cigar to match his new mistress. So I wouldn't have to confront him now, I bolted up the stairs. I heard his whore ask what that stomping noise was so I tiptoed to my room and shut the door slyly. Once I was safely in the comfort of my own bedroom, I fell back onto my king sized bed and cried. Everything has happened so fast and I felt like I would never cry. Now I was sobbing my eyes out. I just can't fathom why this all has happened to me. Is this God's way of punishing me for drinking at that party? For skipping school? For picking on freshman? For telling my mother I wished she would die?

As I lay and cry, my father walked into my room, no bimbo attached anymore. He saw me gushing with tears and groaned.

"What is it now, Cassidy?"

I sat up, shocked.

"What do you mean?! Don't you see? Our family is a wreck! Chase never talks anymore, you are always off on 'business trips'", I snapped. "And my mother is dead! YOUR WIFE IS DEAD! Don't you see?!"

I choked on my hurt sobs and stared up at my father. He glared at me.

"Come with me to my office," He said. "Now."

I followed him across the hallway to his office and waited for him to open the door. He sat behind his large desk and I stood before him, whimpering like a hurt animal. I was hurt. He sat up higher and spoke.

"Explain yourself Cassidy. Give me one reason why I should cancel your flight to Hawai'i."

I felt my jaw fall to the floor.

"WHAT?" I shouted.

He snapped at me. "Goddamnit, Cassidy, lower your voice when talking to your father." I laughed. "Oh yeah, because I totally respect you." I said sarcastically.

He wiped the evil grin off his face. "I have already consulted your mother's mother and arranged for you and Chase to fly to Hawai'i to live with her for the summer. I have things to do and I cannot have you two intervening." I slapped my hand over my mouth to muffle the cries of pain and confusion.

"Dad, you are ruining our lives! Why can't Chase and I stay here? In Manhattan? With our father?" My dad sighed, taking the vanilla cigar out of his mouth to give me some new stupid reason why I have to move to stupid Hawai'i with my stupid grandma, Monie. It's so stupid.

My father had no pity for Chase and I's predicament. He sighed, obviously annoyed with my pleas.

"Look, you can't keep running from your problems...your mother has passed on and it's time for you to move on, too. I'm tired of seeing you party in the city as if it hasn't happened. I don't have time to babysit you, Cassie." He leaned back in her office chair and took another drag from his cigar. What a tool.

"Are you suggesting that my brother and I die off also so that you and your newest blonde bimbo can shack up without anything in your way?" I snapped.

My father looked shocked. "Heather is not a bimbo. She's my new fiance. You need to respect her. Soon she will be your stepmother." He smiled shrewdly at me.

"I will not move to Hawai'i. And I sure as hell won't acknowledge her as any more than a wrinkly whore!" I shouted. I can't believe Dad is already with a new woman; one who's probably only two years older than Chase and I.

"Cassidy Haydence, that is enough! You are moving to Hawai'i and that's final. Pack your bags, your flight leaves 6:00 am...sharp. If you decide to be a little nuisance and skip out on your flight, don't coming knocking at my front door. You will not be apart of this family anymore." I laughed snidely.

"From the looks of it, you already don't want me apart of your family!" He just waved off what I was saying to him, as if I were a fly pestering with him. With that, Mr. Jordaine rose from his chair, rubbed my head, and left his study, slamming the door behind him.

I felt the tears well up in my eyes and the stone lump form in my throat. How would I tell my best friend since preschool, Louise, that our plans to go dancing in Morocco and shop in Europe and hike Mount Everest were canceled because my father shacked up with some New Yorker version of Pamela Anderson? I can barely even manage to tell myself that I was moving to some tiny island that was apart of Hawai'i. All because my mother lost her battle with cancer.

Synthia, my mother, died of pancreatic cancer a week ago. Seems so recent, right? According to my dad, it has been one week too long. My mother was a great woman...smart, loving, beautiful, modest...my father's mistress on the other hand...what dumb sleaze she turned out to be. My father was and still is an unfaithful, greedy man who runs his successful business purely out of Viagra and hatred for his family. I hate him more than anything. He hates alot of things in his life as well.

Including me. My father sees no value in keeping me around now that my mother is dead. Therefore, the impudent asshole is shipping me off to Hawai'i to live with my crazy grandmother who I haven't even seen in 10 years. The woman thinks I still love Disney princesses. I walked up the stairs to my bedroom and began packing. Why does everything wrong happen to me? Why does my father ship me off to Hawai'i? Who knows? My father.

Way raise your kids, "Dad".

_____________________________________________________

You have got to be kidding me. Trouble in paradise has never been such a true phrase. The humidity of Hawai'i's most miniscule island, Kaua'i, was awful and the sun beat down of my East Coast treated skin. My hat flew off my head and my curly brunette hair flew over and around my face, bits and pieces landing in my mouth. I instantly spit and spat until my mane left my lips. I already hate Hawai'i. Obviously it doesn't like me much either.

Then, as soon as my older brother and I stepped foot off the plane, we were rushed to and greeted by a frail, tan woman in her late 60's with two purple leis in one hand and a box of macadamia nuts in the other.

"Hello, sweetie pies! My, my, you've both gotten so big! Ho, both quite the lookers! Especially my sweet little Cassie! Howzi" I cut her off, irritated.

"I go by Cassidy now. You would've known that if you actually kept in contact with us, Monie. Let's just leave. This place is a tourist freak show." I snapped.

She made a face that showed me she was hurt and I almost felt bad for her but she wasn't the one getting sent away by her arrogant father, so who cares? I groaned loudly. There were flight attendants on the ladder of the tiny plane with cheap spray tans and grass skirts cooing out: "Aloha! Mahalo for flying with us. Delta Airlines is an 'ohana'." Shut up, you get payed to say that to us. There were palm trees, everyone was tan and had floral button downs on, and I have never felt so out of place. People didn't wave to each other here. They made their hands into weird almost rock and roll like signals and said: "Shoots, brah!"

WHAT.

THE.

HELL.

*Author's Note: there will be a lot of Pidgin, which is Hawaiian & English language slang/dialect, in this novel. If you don't understand words like mahalo, aloha, shoots brah, da kine, & etc., tell me! I'll put definitions at the next chapter :) Also, i'll be posting character pictures soon. Thanks for reading!*

It's is amazing I love it
You father is such an arse
What type of sickness gets a fiancé a week after his wife died
He sounds like the biggest shit head in the world I hate those men that don't like their own children and send them over seas just to getaway from them

Cassidy seems nice
She is probably my favourite character
She seems so strong
But the thing at the airport was kind of mean but I couldn't blame her I would be the exact same

I like her twin brother Chase he sounds so sweet and I have a feeling he can be a bit over protective

Would love to know what Cassidy looks like
And I can't wait to meet Grayson Howards for some reason I think it will be rather interesting
Love it

Liked the idea, Cassidy's father seems like a jerk. I could've done without so much of the cussing, but that's my personal taste. KMU, definitely.
