There he was, hanging out with his friends. The only guy that really had my attention, JT. Ever since he moved here from Phoenix, I just really wanted to be his girlfriend. He would never go after a girl like me though. Being a nerdy girl never really catches guys’ attentions.
“Hey Ashley,” Sarah said walking up towards me.
“Hey Sarah, what’s up?”
“Just trying to look for Chris. Have you seen him?”
“Yeah, he’s over by the library talking to some girl.”
“Oh, really? I wonder why.”
Sarah and Chris are going out. She is always suspicious whenever she sees him talking to another person, guy or girl, alone. She was really insecure about her looks even though she is the prettiest girl at school. Her concerns about getting cheated on really took a toll on her and Chris’ relationship. I didn’t like the fact she was dating Chris because he was a major jerk. She is also my best friend in the whole world. I don’t like seeing her in pain.
“Um, excuse me,” A deep voice said to me.
“Oh. S-sorry,” I said turning around surprised to see it was JT. “OH! Hi, JT!”
“Haha, hi Ashley, I was wondering if I could ask you a question?”
“Sure! What is it?” I said over excitedly and embarrassingly.
“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go out on a date with me.”
“Are you kidding? I would love to!” Blushing as I replied to him.
“Great,” smiling as he continued to talk “How about this Friday night? Maybe a movie?”
“That sounds great! See you then!”
I seriously embarrass myself sometimes. I was so excited for my date with JT though! I can’t believe he asked me out. I couldn’t wait to tell Sarah and Stephen, my other best friend, about this!
So I asked Ashley out on a date. Most stupid dare ever. I never meant to ask her out but the guys dared me to ask her. I would have never even thought of asking out some girl who’s smarter than me! At least it’s just one date, after that I won’t have to keep seeing her. I can be an ass sometimes.
“You guys! You won’t believe what happened to me just right now!”
“What happened?” Stephen and Sarah both simultaneously asked me.
“JT asked me out!”
“JT, as in badass JT?” Stephen confusingly asked
“Yeah! Can you believe that!?”
“Actually, no, I can’t. Are you making this up!?” Sarah asked.
“No! I’m pretty sure I’m not making this up!” I said defending myself.
“There’s no way a guy like JT would ask a girl like you! You’re too smart and mature for him. Why would he ask you out?” Stephen said.
“You got a point there, Stephen. Ashley, what did you tell him? Yes?” Sarah asked nosily.
“Why of course I did Sarah! Why wouldn’t I have? Oh my gosh! You and Chris should come and it could be a double date! It’s tomorrow night. What do you say?!”
“I would love to, Ashley, I really would, but Chris blew me off again. We were supposed to go out tomorrow.” She said disappointedly.
“Oh screw him! He blows you off too much! You need a good time! Why don’t you break up with him already?!” I asked interrogatingly
“Well, I love him. And I don’t see why I have to break up with him if he’s busy, I understand.” She said trying to defend Chris.
“Oh whatever Sarah! I just don’t want to see you get hurt! Well I’ll talk to you guys later, bye!”
I skipped joyfully to my next class with the thought that I actually had a date with JT tomorrow night. I would have never guessed in a million years he was interested in me! Nothing could get in the way of my happiness. Not anything…
Well, Friday night couldn’t have possibly gotten here quick enough. I dreaded the date that I had with Ashley. Well it was my own stupid fault for taking my friends dare. I didn’t even like Ashley! She was way too smart for me. Oh well, that’s what I get for taking a dare from my dumbass friends.
When seven o’ clock came around, I met Ashley at the movies. I thought this was a good “date” so we wouldn’t have to talk. We decided to watch “Priest”. Great decision. I’ve wanted to watch this movie, so I’ll be too interested in the movie to pay any attention to her.
“So I’m surprised you asked me out. What made you want to ask me out all of a sudden?” She said breaking the silence.
“Oh, well... I’ve just noticed how cute you are. I wanted to get to know you better.” I said quickly saving myself.
“Really now? Ha, well I wouldn’t have guessed that a bad ass like you would pay attention to me. To be honest, I’ve had the biggest crush on you for awhile now.” She said quietly.
Shit. That got to me. Now I really hated myself for asking her out. I would have never imagined her liking me.
I faked a laugh. “Ha, really? Aw, how sweet.”
She blushed. “I have no idea why I just said that. I just embarrassed myself now. Sorry for saying that.”
She was very awkward and didn’t have very good communication skills. It makes me wonder if she’s ever been out on a date before.
“You can go get out seats and I’ll get our drinks and stuff. So what do you want from the concession stand?” I said, hoping no one I knew was here to see me with her.
“Okay sure. Um, get me a Dr. Pepper and some skittles, please.” She spoke quietly.
“Don’t tell me that’s who I think it is,” A familiar voice said.
“Shit,” I said under my breath. “Hey, Alice. What are you doing here? You never come here!”
“Oh, well I’m on a date with some guy I met at the ravine hangout.” She replied.
“Um, who’s this?” Ashley asked in her quiet voice.
“Ashley, this is Alice, my ex.” I replied.
“Nice to meet you, Ashley. Hey JT, I didn’t know you went after goody two-shoes like this bitch right here.” she replied attacking Ashley.
Ashley looked like she just got slapped. “Um, I’m going to go get our seats now… The movie should be starting soon.”
“Okay,” I said then turned my attention towards Alice “Was that really necessary?”
“Actually, yes it was. Look, I miss you JT, please take me back!” She begged.
“No, I’m trying to move on after what you did to me. Who goes out and cheats on their boyfriend with their boyfriend’s best friend? A bitch, that’s who,” I said disgustingly.
“Look, I’m sorry! What else can I say? I truly am sorry. I don’t know what I can do to make it up to you.”
“Okay well you can try by leaving me alone with my date now. I mean it Alice, don’t do something stupid to try and ruin my date.” I spat at her.
“Fine. I don’t know what I ever saw in you anyways.” She countered.
I went to go find where Ashley was sitting. I found her and could tell she had been crying.
“What’s wrong? If it’s what Alice said back in the lobby just ignore it. She can be a bitch sometimes. You have nothing to be sad about.” I said.
“Well she shouldn’t have said that! There was no reason for it! I’m sorry but can we just leave? I don’t want to be in the same place as her.” Ashley said coldly.
“Yeah, sure. No problem.”
So I decided to take Ashley out for ice cream. I started to get to know her. I’m surprised I didn’t ask her out sooner. She was really interesting once we started talking.
“So what’s the deal with that Alice chick?” She finally asked.
“Well, to make a long story short, she cheated on me with my best friend” I told her.
“Ouch. That must have sucked a lot. I don’t know what you saw in her. She seems like a total bitch anyways.”
“Yeah, she had her moods, haha.” I jokingly said.
“Yeah well I could see that after she called me a bitch.” She said laughing.
I smiled. “Well this has been a great first date, I guess. Ha, how about we go take a walk now?”
“Are you sure about that? You don’t want anyone else seeing us now do you?” She said sharply
I swallowed hard and laughed nervously. “Who cares if anyone sees us together? It’s not like it’s the end of the world if anyone sees us together.”
“Haha alright, let’s go!”
We walked to the park. We talked about ourselves to each other. It was a pretty nice time. I didn’t know a first date could be this enjoyable instead of awkward and weird like most. After we stayed and talked at the park for a good hour, I took Ashley back home.
“I had a great time tonight. Thanks for making my first date great…” She said quietly.
“So this was your first date, huh? I thought so since you acted pretty awkward at the beginning of the date.” I laughed.
“Yes, actually it was my first date. And thanks for making it so great.” She smiled.
“No problem. So are we gonna have a second date?” I asked.
“I don’t see why not. How about tomorrow?”
“Sure. See you then”
I leaned in and kissed her on the lips. She had blushed a bright red. I left.
This date wasn’t so bad after all. I was actually kind of grateful this happened. And now I couldn’t wait for tomorrow night. Tonight was the best night ever.
