At the airport, an hour later

‘’The name please…’’ the lady at the counter asked Farhan.

‘’Jhelum Roy’’ he said without thinking.

‘’No sir, the name on her passport is Jhelum Roy Sinha.’’

‘’What? Oh, is it?’’ he was a little apprehensive, ‘’should be Roy Sinha then, post-marriage.’’

‘’Are you sure? Both are the same person?’’

‘’Yes, both are the same.’’ He told the lady at the luggage claim counter, unruffled’’ I am quite sure.’’

No. they are not, he said to himself. Same dimples and same black eyes, he thought, but not the same Jhelum.

She looked at him for a second, and then asked him,’’ For how long do you know her?’’

‘’Five years” He said.

But the owner of the passport or the pregnant lady at his apartment is not the same Jhelum who came to his cubicle five years back to ask for birthday celebration contribution of some colleague.

Farhan was working on his laptop, when they were talking to Chowhan, his team member. She and Archie; they were more than just talking; laughing and cracking jokes. Loud enough to be heard two blocks away. The Credit Consultant for WW Inc. was getting distracted.

Chowhan (whose full name is Chetan Chowhan, popularly known as Chowhan) was telling her that it was too demeaning for a star performer like her to beg money for birthday celebrations. She said he was running out of excuses for his miserly ways. Archie was standing, barely half a meter away from Chowhan, meticulously scanning her freshly manicured nails and occasionally shooting witty remarks. Finally, he gave them the money.  Jhelum came to Farhan’s desk and very courteously asked for the money. No coquettish smiles, no impish looks, just a friendly smile and a polite request.

He took out his wallet and gave her the money without even asking whose birthday was she collecting money for. She said thank you and left with Archie right away.

‘’Who’s that girl?’’, he asked Chowhan.

‘’You know her. She is Archie, full name Archana Jaitley, my girlfriend.’’ He replied.

‘’I am not asking about your chhamak chhallo, man. Who’s the new chick, the one in black tee and jeans?’’ Farhan was looking at him.

‘’Oh, so, you are talking about Miss Chulbuli? She’s Jhelum. She‘s part of the Kansas-based project team. They shifted base from Kormangala to our campus, last week. We are on the same floor now.’’

‘’But how do you know her?’’ he was surprised.

‘’She’s Archie’s roomie and friend, naturally my friend as well.’’ Chowhan replied with a casual shrug.
