People it seemed were becoming unconditioned to the art of talking. This fact was becoming prevalent in my virgin mind. With this the thoughts of man and thinking was becoming stagnated. People only got their opinions and ideas over the television and radio media. Not to mention the growing influence of Hollywood. This sort of limited the input of thoughts and ideas. It was filtered and full of the biases of the production people. They only presented with their side and views of of the war. Real truths of the war were being edited for the sake of image. Yet, their sons were dying in the war.
It started to become a topic of conversation as we smoked grass. It just seemed the American public was being kept in the dark. Just as an example was the crossing into Cambodia and Laos. Guys coming in from the field told us all sorts stories, but crossing was it seemed a common thing. It breed hatred in the guys and made us further realize that people in the United States were being given a song and dance routine about the war and its real realities.
The war was not voted on by the congress, so we were fighting an unjust war by law. It was a lot more than giving your neighbor a helping hand. Though it was a vicious war and people only saw images on the television screen. To us in the company it was a war and we lived the ravages of the war. To many in the company it ate away at your insides like a cancer. Though we were the real witnesses of the war and its growing reality. VIET NAM,was being bombed and ravaged by the war.
When we got into these discussions the fury would fly along with the smoke from the grass. The true inner feelings of the guys would come out, sort of talking witnesses of different views of the war. Some were well educated and well read. They would get into deep thoughts about the war and its reality. The thought that seemed utmost, was the thought that we were wasting our time and lives in this war. The war seemed like a beast of burden plodding onward into some unknown oblivion. Keeping inner hurts of the war and yet plodding, unknowing really, WHY ?Why did it seem, that the American public was sort of numb and ignorant of the real realities of the war. In America the television was the growing reality of the American public.
