“Gabrielle, it’s nice to see that you believe now. So please tell me how did your first encounter with a monster go?”
“Fine considering I didn’t die, not that I can.”
“Yes you’re safe now, especially when facing weak monsters like the one which inhabited Lis. Just remember you are not fully immortal until you reach adulthood. Remember that story about Achilles?”
“Yes…? But don’t you say it’s all fiction?”
“Well you have something like an Achilles heel, but no one can tell you what it is. No one knows unless they kill you by hitting there. It isn’t your neck obviously, lucky duckling.”
“Why did I hear voices in the wind?”
“Gabrielle! We are Earth Protectors! We control the wind, and weather!!!”
“Right, I knew that.”
“I know you did.”
“Mom, do I really have to slay that dragon or get married. I don’t want to get married just yet, but I’m not sure if I want to fight the dragon.”
“Gabrielle, it is your choice alone. You’re destined to be a hero so remember whatever one you choose you will be a hero. You have to be ready to do one of them. I’m sorry, but I cannot assist you much more than that. Decision making is a tricky thing. Make sure the choice you make is following your morals.”
My mom’s holographic face disappeared into misty air. I looked around, and then in the blink of an eye Pat appeared next me. He was rubbing my arm. I went in and kissed him on the lips. I leaned back, but I put my finger to his mouth so he wouldn’t say something before I could speak.
“Pat, I love you, and I’ll get married to you, but not now. I’m just not ready…I am going to have to slay the dragon, and then mother’s spirit will be lifted out of the mirror. I need to save her, but not through my own marriage.” He was about to reply, but I leaned back in and kissed him on the lips.
“I believe you have made a wise choice, Gabby. I love you dearly, but I knew you weren’t ready. Follow me to the navigation room for directions to Reonocks’s lair.”
“Wait.”
“Yes, Gabby?”
“I know girls aren’t supposed to do this, but I don’t care.” I leaned down on one knee, “Patrick, will you marry me once I slay this stupid dragon?” I smiled up at Pat.
“Yes, Gabrielle Aurora Faith, I will marry you.”
I know you’re probably wondering who would get married when their thirteen, but the truth is, when you are an Earth Protector you can do whatever you want, minus killing humans with your powers…
I jumped on Pat, and kissed him more. I couldn’t stop; I was irrevocably in love with Pat.
“I don’t mean to ruin this moment, Gabby, but the navigation room is waiting.”
“I’m sorry, but it seemed like the right time.”
“It was the perfect time.”
“I’m sorry I don’t have a ring for you.”
“I don’t need a ring to prove my love for you, Gabrielle.”
I couldn’t help but smile. Pat was so understanding, and so—perfect. I grabbed his hand and pulled him down the corridor. Once he got the message that I was trying to get him to lead us to the navigation room, he led me down corridor after corridor, and flights of stairs after flights of stairs.
After the longest walk in my whole life we came to a beautiful door decorated with ever-changing faces. I felt the door, but all I felt was wood. The faces were so intricate. I believe they were famous sailors, and pioneers.
“So this is it?”
“What were you expecting?”
“No, I didn’t mean it like that, I meant—so this is the navigation room?”
“Of course it is!” He looked at me while he chuckled. “Come Gabby, over to the pioneer desk.” He pulled me over to a counter where two beautiful ladies sat. If I were Pat, I would have drooling over them, but he looked content.
“Hello, Miss—Miss, Gabrielle Aurora Faith. How privileged I feel, to have met a heroine.”
“I’m not a hero—well not, yet.”
“Tell me Miss Gabrielle Aurora Faith, where are you planning on going?”
“Gabrielle is going to Reonocks’ lair.” Pat’s eyes zeroed in on her eyes like he was trying to get a message across.
“Gabrielle Aurora Faith, do you accept to the terms you may not return alive?”
“Yes ma’am.”
The lady at the desk closed her eyes.
Take the boat west to Din’s Island and get off
There a little surprise will await you.
Don’t be fooled and continue on your journey.
Use your powers to fly high in the sky, and you will come to the entrance of Reonocks’s lair.
Use your powers and sword to win the battle against the dragon, and bring your mother to safety.
Find your way back using a new power you will acquirer.
Think and think about your fiancPatrick who will welcome you back with open arms.
Her eyes sprang open. “Well, congratulations! Looks like you’re getting married, and you won’t die. Our directions and destinies don’t always go as planned. We can only hope, are gifts are working correctly. Here is a ticket for the boat you will be taking; it leaves from our harbor, down that hall, in 5 minutes. Your bags with items you may need are already in the luggage compartment.”
“Thanks.”
“No problem, Gabrielle Aurora Faith.”
“Pat, I guess this means I’m really going. There’s no turning back. Please know that even if I die, I love you. Maybe I’m the only thing that can save Earth, but as she said, I may not succeed.”
“Gabby, I know you will succeed, because you will be a hero. I know that this may be hard to believe, but you mean so many things to me, and I can just feel it. I love you, Gabrielle.”
“I love you, too.”
