The Meeting

Chloe opened her eyes as she was interrupted by a knock at the door.

“Chloe? Are you okay? You have been in there quite a while.” She heard Kate say, she sounded worried and given the injury Chloe had received that was entirely justified.

Chloe sighed.
“Yeah I’m alright. You can come in now I’m done anyway.” She said stood up facing the door and started to remove the bandage from her shoulder.

She heard the door open and Kate step in.

“What are you doing?!”
Kate asked in surprise when she saw what Chloe was up to.
“Don’t pull the bandage of, you gonna rip open the wound again!” she said dashing to her Friend.

But as she got to Chloe she was already pulling of the last bit of the blood soaked cloth and what she saw made her eyes widen in shock.
She took a step back and just started at Chloe for a few seconds.

“Y… your wound… it has healed!” Kate breathed.

“Yes although not entirely, as for that I’d need more time.” Chloe said that like it was nothing.

“How… how is that even possible?!” Kate asked in confusion. She didn’t understand a thing about what she just witnessed. How can a person possibly heal that fast? She thought.

“Through concentrated meditation I can speed up the healing process in specific areas of my body. It’s something everyone learns at a very young age on my home planet to heal their wounds themselves if no doctor is close.” Chloe explained.
She walked closer and brought her hand to Kate’s chin to close her open mouth.

Chloe chuckled. “Did nobody ever tell you that it’s rude to stare?”

Kate shock her head “Oh… sorry I didn’t mean to be rude it’s just… I have never heard of such a thing like this.” She said still a little dazed.

“Yeah now it’s a kinda rare ability… and a rather cool one too huh?” Chloe grinned at her.

It took Kate a while but she eventually cracked a smile too and raised a brow.
“Ahhh… don’t flatter yourself I’ve seen cooler things than that.” now she grinned as well.

“Yeah?... Like what?” Chloe asked.

“I’m not telling.” Kate said in an unusually high voice turning her head to the side and holding her nose high.
Both girls burst out into laughter shortly after that.

“By the way,… why did you say 'now'?” she asked hesitant.

“It’s a long story and I… I’d rather not talk about it right now.” Chloe said while glancing away.

“Okay” Kate said she figured that this is a delicate topic for Chloe and let it rest for now.

“C’mon C, let’s go to the conference room, everyone is waiting to get to know the 'new kid' ” making air quotes as she said the last two words, trying to lighten the mood a bit.

Both of them giggled.
“The new kid huh? Okay let’s go.” Chloe said smiling.

Chloe and Kate still sat at their table talking about the past and enjoying their meal.

“Do you remember our first mission together?” Kate asked.

Chloe smiled in response. “Yeah of course I do.” She giggled “How could I forget it? That day was quite memorizing"

“Yeah it was.” Kate laughed.

As they entered the conference room she noticed that it wasn’t very big, the back of the room was very poorly lit, a bunch of tables where set up in rows like in a  she saw 6 people staring at her.

The boss stepped up besides her.
Kate sat down beside Kess.
“Alright guys.” Peter said and laid his left hand on Chloe's shoulder.
“This is Chloe, the new member I told you about. Now I don’t want her to leave tomorrow so behave yourself.” He said smiling.

“Especially you Kess!” he pointed with his finger at Kates green skinned friend.
“I know you tend to get a little over your head with what you say to other people.”

Kess brought a hand to her chest and breathed in a gasp.
“I wouldn’t possibly know what you mean boss.” She looked around and saw that everyone but Chloe was grinning at her, the devilish smile on her face and the fact that her raspy voice was basically soaking with sarcasm, where implying she did very well know what he was talking about.

“Kess I mean it.” Peter said, now with serious tone in his voice.

“Yeah okay,… I’ll try… no promises though, it’ll be freaking difficult.” The devilish smile still didn’t leave her face.

He didn’t look convinced at all but he let it go.
“Okay Chloe take a seat please so we can go on with our briefing.”

She looked around for a empty chair, spotted one besides a smiling Kate and sat down.

“Okay then,… the person we’re after is called 'Dracos'” he said, pointing at the huge screen behind him which displayed a picture of the target as he continued.
“he is believed to be the ringleader of a dangerous pirate organization. His bounty is at about 550.000 Credits and because nobody took the job yet, we’re going to.”

He turned to face Chloe.
“Now, since you’re new here, I don’t expect you to join us on this mission” he let out a sigh before he continued. “Normally I give newcomers an easy job first, but this time no such missions are available, thanks to the wave of amateur bounty hunters.” He brought his hand up to massage his temples.
“So you can either wait for an easy job or come with us for the big fish.” He said expectantly staring at Chloe waiting for her to make the choice.

Chloe thought about it a little while before speaking.
“I’ll come with you” she said with determination in her voice.
“This mission is as good as any to begin my new job with” she had a smile on her face but in reality Chloe was frightened.

“Great!” Peter said smiling.
“Now, the problem with Dracos is,… nobody knows where he is, so I have hired a guy who is specialized in finding people, would you mind intruding yourself?” he asked looking into the dark part of the Room when Chloe looked back she only saw the contours of what seemed to be a male human.
Only when he stood up and stepped into the light she noticed his features, he was about one head bigger than her and looked very muscular, had short brown hair and brown eyes.
He walked to Peter and turned to face Chloe and the others.

“Of course I can.” He said. “My name is Ray…”

Thanks for reading and as always be sure to comment below. ;)

And special thanks to Raybird who gave the idea with Dracos.

It's awesome Chloe can speed-heal herself using concentrated meditation :D Hahaha I just have to laugh when Chloe said to Kate that it's rude to stare. I probably would've done the same thing :D I hope they catch Dracos soon. This new human also has definitely captured my attention :D Very well done, Rath :D I look forward to the next chapters :)

I thought it'd be a unique skill. :)
And it isn't even that unrealistic, shaolin monks use meditation to help their body healing wounds through meditation.

Hahaha yeah I thought that would be funny. :D

Thank you again for reading this. :)

I'll try to update soon, it has been too long already.

i really like the direction you're going with the storyline so far. the burgeoning relationship between Chloe and Kate is the high point of the story so far. i feel that they were made for each other in a sense. i also like the cast of secondary characters as well. especially Kess lol. so storyline and character development are the two high points of the novel for me. the only low points are not enough background or environment descriptions and a fair amount of grammatical errors, but other than that i'm really enjoying this great novel. keep up the good work Rath!

Thank you so much for the comment. :)
I'm glad that you liked it.

Yeah the story does kinda wrap around their relationship. :D

Also I thank you for your criticism. ;)
I'll try to better myself in those points.
