Graduation Day

You'd think that after twelve years of school I would be able to figure out who I am. Here I am, in a navy blue, cap and gown, waiting in line to walk across a stupid stage, having absolutely no clue what I want to do with my future, except to maybe get laid.... My feet felt itchy in the stupid high heels my mother forced me to wear, and my palms were beginning to sweat. Images of me tripping over my own ankles flashed through my brain. I had always been pretty clumsy, it was a mircacle I actually had all my apendages. "Pst!!" I turned around to see a dirty blond with golden freckles sprinkled all over his skin, waving at me; my boyfriend Tanner. He winked, trying to comfort me, probably reading my mind; which he had always been able to do, ever since we started dating back in the 8th grade. I forced a smile back, feeling guilty for the breaking up I was planning to do within the next few days.

"Anya Peterson!" a voice so shrill it sounded like nails on a chalkboard called out my name. My heart jumped out of my body and 50 feet in the air, figuratively of course. I took my first shaky step up the stairs, I will never be able to discribe what it feels like to finally walk, knowing that you have years and years ahead of you. I made it across the stage without making a complete fool out of myself. My principal was an older woman, with graying hair, and a wrinkled face so saggy it made you never want to grow up. She was one of the nicest people I have ever met, but I unfortunately, never payed attention to anything she said because I was always distracted by the rather large mole on her lip. She handed me the rolled up piece of paper, and I took it carefully, knowing that this was one of the most important things I would ever recieve.

I smiled back and walked down the steps on the other side. So I was a officially a graduate! I took my seat waiting for the rest of my class to hurry up and get their diplomas. Person after person walked, Tanner smiled at me from the stage and I gave him a little wave. After the cerimony my mother practically tackled me.

"Oh, darling!!! I can't believe you made it!" She planted a large, wet kiss on my cheek. "Just wait, you'll have so much fun at the University of Chicago!" Ugh, the college she and my step-dad had picked out for me, it was also where me and Tanner would be going together. Just another thing that I would have to endure as an adult. I had never wanted to go to college. It seemed as though it was a waste of time. I mean you spend all this time in school just to prepare you for 4 more years of school. I smiled and nodded, pretending to be very overwhelmed. She left with my annoying younger sister and Tanner came up and put his arms around my waist.

"So Babe, wanna come over to my place, and, uh, watch a movie?" He whispered in my ear. I rolled my eyes.

"In a hurry to celebrate?" I said giving him a sly smile. He nibbled at my neck.

"What do you think?" as he pressed up against me.

"Maybe tomorrow, I have stuff to do tonight, partys and such." I said turning and kissing him quickly.

"Alright, well at least let me give you a ride home." Boys, always trying to get some. I obliged and he opened the door for me and slapped my butt as I got in. I sighed, I loved Tanner, I really did, he just was, well, a pig. But then again, almost all guys were pigs. I really thought at one time that we would get married, and have an amazing family together, but I just didn't feel the same way about him anymore. He drove until we got about a block to my house and parked his large, bulky, green truck. He cupped his hand around my neck and pulled me in. His lips were very salty, I could taste sweat and toothepaste. He wound his tongue around mine and we just stayed like that for a while. The good thing about Tanner was that he never asked for too much, he could tell when I wanted to stop and never asked for more. He pulled away first and smiled at me. He kissed my forehead, and both my cheeks and then started the truck up again.

"I love you Anya." He said very matter-of-factly. I just looked at him. He wasn't waiting for me to say it back, because he already knew that I didn't. "Don't worry, you don't have to say it." He said as we pulled into my drive way. "I'll just get what I can." He kissed me goodbye and left.

I looked guiltily at his tailgate as it drove off down the road. I made my way inside, only to find that no one was home. Grabbing a soda from the fridge, I then went up to my room and sat at my decaying computer. I checked all my websites, Facebook, Myspace, Tumblr, etc. Nothing new, except for hundreds of congrats about my graduation for people I barely knew. I shut the laptop down and got up, my clumsy-ass self accidently knocking the books on my desk off. I leaned to pick them up and saw that my torn up notebook had opened to something I wrote back in my Sophomore year. My old Bucket List. I smiled as I read it.
