The sun was shining down on the worn down path in the dirt road. It was quiet. The cool breeze blew softly. Red and gold leaves danced around as they were taken by the gentle wind. The road was clear except for one figure. The figure was a girl. Long dark brown hair the color of the sweetest chocolate and golden eyes focused on the sky as if she were lost in a dream. She was wearing a skirt with warm tights, boots and naturally a jacket. It is fall after all, so it is getting colder. She had her I-Pod in. She loved listening to it, it always made it seem like the world around her became in tune with her music and almost magical. So, she didn’t even care that she looked like an idiot as she dance a little as she walked.
The town she was in was very peaceful and nice. She was visiting her aunt who lived in the area who she had not seen in ages while her parents were away traveling for work in another country. They told her that she would stay here until the summer then they would be together once again.
She didn’t mind though. Her old school had many mean kids in it. She was different, she was an excellent seamstress and was very good at the piano but the kids didn’t care the slightest about that though. When she was in middle school, she fainted during recess one day when she had seen a book that a kid had brought in about an unnamed artist’s work. She began mumbling about people and places she had never been and began screaming and saying she was drowning. Ever since that day she had been labeled crazy, had no friends and was made fun of. So, when her parents told her that she would go live with her aunt for a little while, she was more than excited. She decided that she would start a clean slate. That no one here would ever know about what happened in middle school. School here actually had started but it is the beginning of the year, which is mostly review, so she wouldn’t be that far behind.
So, she packed up her things and left. That is what would bring her to what she was doing at that very moment. Just walking, observing and discovering. The school had a short break due to some holidays and some professional days. So, they would be back the next week. So, she had some free time to do simple stuff like she was at the moment. There were many buildings in the town but behind all of the older town houses was a path that leads into the center square of the town. As she was walking, she began to get a familiar feeling in her very core. She couldn’t understand it but this path seemed familiar in an odd way. She felt her eyes drawn to a building in the distance; her curiosity begged her to follow it.
As she walked closer and closer to the building, the feeling confused her even more. She had moved from across the country, why was something in her drawing her to that building? When she got closer, she discovered it was a church. A cute old church, almost out of a movie; she walked up to the door and opened it up.
Her voice rang out. She shrugged and walked in. She had been forced to be quiet in her old school since that day. Everyone assumed whatever words came out of her mouth were nonsense so after awhile she stopped trying. The stained glass windows at the very front of the church made the church seem even more beautiful. She spotted a piano and couldn’t resist the urge to go over to it. She smiled a bit.
She turned on a song on her I-Pod and began playing along on the piano. Her eyes were closed but she knew that she was hitting the correct keys. With the music in her ears and the music of the piano, she didn’t even hear a car pull up outside.
When she had finished, she heard clapping. She froze. She turned and saw a man in a suit standing in the door.
“I HAVE MACE!” she yelled and jumped out of the seat. That earned an awkward silence and then a chuckle from the man. “Well that is a good thing to have if you are ever in danger. Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you. I was coming here for some quiet thinking. But instead I found beautiful music. It was a pleasant surprise actually. My name is Jonathan Ferris. I am actually the dean of a boarding school in the town in the next town over. I look for the people who have something special and you defiantly have it my dear” he said with a smile. She didn’t move, unsure whether to trust him or not. He knew for some reason that she did still not trust him.
He took out a piece of paper out of his pocket and set it on the pew next to him. “Here is the brochure. You can give it to whoever watches you at home and maybe you can join my school. We would love to have such a wonderful talent like yours. Have a nice day” he said and left.
She waited until the car had left before carefully picking up the brochure. She began walking home. Later that night, she told her aunt.
She really did love her aunt to death but Aunt Kristen worked late at the hospital every night. Her aunt said it was a great idea since then the school could properly care for her niece rather than herself. Aunt Kristen checked with her brother and sister in law. They said that was more than ok.
Within the next few days, the school was contacted, a full scholarship was offered and her classes were organized. Something inside her felt a little weird as she wondered why the school was so eager to get her in so quickly.
By Monday, she had already gotten her uniform and she was standing at the front gates of the massive school. She breathed in. “This is not at all what I was expecting when I was told I was going to be with Aunt Kirsten for the school year” she breathed softly.
The odd feeling in her stomach returned. Why did she feel like this place was familiar? Why did it feel like she needed to go in there? She brushed it off as nervous butterflies and walked in.
So consumed by her own thoughts, she didn’t notice the four sets of eyes watching her. Those four sets of eyes were all greatly spaced apart, and every one with a different emotion. Happiness, Longing, Twisted Desire and Hate.
Those were all tied to people she knew very well, but from a different time as a different person.
