Wahoo!!! I finally managed to pin a hijab, with a few swear words along the way! It took me about half an hour to get it right, but as you can see I was able to get it done! This scarf and underscarf came from www.stunninghijab.com and is run by my dear friend and sister Nazma Khan. She sent me them as well as a silver scarf which I intend to wear tomorrow and Friday. Oh yes, Friday is a very special occasion indeed! More on that later.
Today my partner and I had to go into the city to get his new spectacles, which are about 3 years overdue! He now has some gorgeous new glasses with silver frames and they are absolutely lovely! They suit him too, which is always nice - I've always thought that glasses should be aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. After all, if you're going to wear them in public you don't want to look like Moaning Myrtle! Anyway, he got spoilt rotten because not only did I have a voucher for a free eye test and £50 off glasses, but he also got 10% off because of my loyalty card with Vision Express! How's that for good fortune?
In between his appointment and picking up the glasses, we went to a lovely little café-come-shop called The Tea Junction. Let me tell you, their green tea with jasmine is sublime!!! We got the bus home, and it was then that I read the email that will change my Friday plans significantly!
As you might remember, I had some interest from a television programme called Ahlulbayt TV, but we were thrashing out the details of when and where. Well, today we decided on a day and venue, and I will be going to London on Friday to film! Jonathan is coming too, as he is my partner and I will get thoroughly lost without him! We're going to be picked up from the station and taken to the studio, then taken back to the station after filming! They are even providing lunch for us and have promised that any meat will be halal (subhan'Allah!) so to be honest, it would be ridiculous not to go!
Luckily, the train we've booked has no changes so it's a straight run from Norwich to London Liverpool Street, but it does mean that we're getting up early and returning later on in the evening. When we say later on, we mean half past 10. I know, it's really late but thankfully we don't have to go out on Saturday so we can easily have a lie-in if needs be. I'm going to pick out my best outfit and wear my best hijab - and who knows, I might even be able to show off the little Arabic that I can say!
I am also in the process of sorting out a day to go to the mosque and say my shahadah, but I think it will have to be either at the weekend or on Monday as I'm away on Friday. Whenever I do it, it will be a very special moment in my life and I will definitely be taking photos of myself and my Muslim family.
