Chapter 12
I spent the next two weeks in that quiet, dull mood. I knew Tye and Sarah were worried about me, but I just didn’t have the energy to care. Well, no, I did care; I just didn’t have the energy to do anything about it. Why should they worry anyway? It’s not like I’m worth worrying over. And mum didn’t seem to care, let alone worry about me so that was no surprise.
I had just come home from work when I light switched on in the living room. “Nice night?” Jimmy asked, coming into view.
“Slow” I replied curtly before heading towards the stairs.
“You know she doesn’t love you. She never did.” Jimmy said quietly.
So shocked at what he was saying, I stopped dead in my tracks. Why was I so surprised? I knew she didn’t love me. “Your Dad never did either”
The cold, dull feeling that had surrounded me for the past couple of weeks left me fast, anger quickly replacing the shock, I turned around to face him. He had an ugly smirk on his face, and hatred filled his muddy brown eyes. “Don’t you dear talk to me about my father.” I breathed, surprised at how dangerous I sounded.
“What? Don’t tell me you actually thought someone could love you” Jimmy laughed bitterly.
A sudden courage overwhelmed me, and I felt brave, almost strong. “You know nothing about my father! He was a million times a better man than you can even dream of becoming!” I practically hissed at him.
“Maybe, but guess what Kristy, Me and your mum were together while your dad was dyeing!”
That made no sense at all. Mum was at home, with me. “What the hell?” I said confused but still angry.
“While your dad was pinned under that tractor, your mum and I were on the phone, talking about how she was going to ditch the pair of you and come live with me. Then your dad had to go screw everything up and get himself killed so we were stuck with you.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Mum was cheating on dad. She was going to run away and leave us. After I moulded this over in my head I realised that a lot of this made sense. Mum wasn’t very upset about dad dyeing, and she had this house bought and ready to move into very quickly. What looked like her being upset about dad might have just been her annoyance that she was stuck with me. I should have felt sad and betrayed, but really, I was just pissed off.
Laughing bitterly and walking towards him I said “Well, it doesn’t surprise me, I mean, Julie was always a shitty mum. She never belonged, the stupid bitch” I stopped to stand in front of him. “She didn’t deserve Dad anyway. But you are right, you fit together perfectly. You’re disgusting on the inside as well as the out.”
“Stupid slut” Jimmy said as he slapped me.
I could feel my cheek burning but I didn’t care. Holding my head up high, I said “Have fun in hell” before walking out.
I was too wired to go to sleep, and it was Friday night, so I picked up my phone and called Sarah. “Hello?” She answered.
“Hey Sar, Its Kristy, do you wanna go out tonight?” I asked immediately.
“Umm, I dunno Kristy” Sarah wasn’t really the part type, but I had no one else to go to.
“Jason Craft Is having his eighteenth tonight, we should go.” I told her. She didn’t say anything so I had to resort to begging. “Come on please? We haven’t hung out in ages, and I really need a distraction.”
“Oh, fine alright? I will come.”
“Thank you!!!” I squealed into the phone.
“I will pick you up in half an hour alright? But I don’t want to stay there too long. You know what his friends are like, they are complete womanisers.”
“Sure alright, see you soon.” I said before hanging up.

“That’s the party!” I said excitedly as we drove past the house with all the cars parked around it. I was in the mood to do something stupid and rebellious. Where better to do that then at a party?
“Are you sure?” Sarah asked as she parked the car.
“Don’t chicken out on me now Sarah!” I said as I hopped out.
“Is there something wrong? Why are you like this all of a sudden?”
“Why whatever do you mean?” I said, acting innocently as I hooked my arm through hers and practically dragged her to the part, which had spilled out to the front lawn.
“Hey Kristy!” Some random called to me, “Who’s your friend?” The guy was obviously talking about Sarah, which isn’t a surprise since she is totally gorgeous, she is just shy.
“This is Sarah” I told the tall guy with chocolate brown hair.
He took Sarah’s hand and kissed it. “My lady” He said, “My name is Jason.”
“Hi” Sarah said quietly. And with that, I left them to it.
As I headed inside, a few people said hi, but I knew they only spoke to me because I’m Tye’s girlfriend. Before I met Tye, no one even looked in my direction let alone spoke to me. Thinking of this made me even angrier.
I grabbed a shot of something (I had no idea what it was. I don’t drink alcohol so I don’t really know what’s what) and headed over towards a group of people. They were absolutely plastid and they didn’t have a clue who was there, so no one looked at me funny when I joined them.
After a few lame jokes and more shots, I felt happier, but the need to do something stupid and rebellious was still strong. The next thing I knew, a bong was going around. I had never had drugs before. A first time for drinking and drugs is stupid and rebellious; why not do both? I asked myself before having a go.
I coughed and sputtered a lot, but I didn’t care. My life was shit. It was mums fault. It was Jimmy’s fault. It was-. At that moment, Kim (Miss popular bitch face) walked into the room. It was her fault. No one at school spoke to me because of her. If it wasn’t for Tye, I still would have no friends.
“Hey Kim!” I said as I attempted to walk over to her (and I say attempted because I was drunk and god knows what else).
With a disgusted face, Kim turned to face me. “What?” She said annoyed.
“You’re a bitch” I told her.
“And you are a freak” She said before turning away from me.
“Hey! I’m talking to you mole rat! What is your problem with me?”
“You’re the one making yourself look like an idiot Kristy not me. It is not my fault no one likes you.”
“Yes it is!” I said angrily, slurring my words. “No one knows me because you tell them not to talk to me. You are a mean person! I hate people like you! You screw with people lives just for fun and to get your own way! You are horrible!” At this point I’m starting to feel a little dizzy.
“Hey Kristy, I wondered where you went.” Sarah said as she walked towards me.
I could tell when she actually looked at me because I saw the confusion and disappointment in her face. “Kristy are you high?” She asked before coming closer. “And drunk?”
“So what if I am?” I said.
“Come on lets go” Sarah said, trying to pull me away.
Tears welled up in my eyes. “No!” I yelled. “I don’t want to go home! It hurts!”
“Fine, I’ll call Tye, he can take you home.” Sarah said, pulling out my phone from my pocket.
“No, please don’t.” I said quietly.
“Kristy, something is wrong with you and you need help.”
“Nothing is wrong with me!” I said. I knew my words were Slurred and that no matter what I said it would do no good, so I sat on a couch and waited for Tye.
It didn’t take him long to get there and I was still crying when he found me. “Oh honey, come on, let’s get you home.” He said, pulling me up from the couch.
“No! I don’t want to go home!” I practically screamed.
“Oh please” Kim said walking past “doesn’t mummy and daddy want you anymore?” She said patronisingly.
I closed the gap between us and shoved her hard so that she fell over the coffee table and onto the floor. “Fuck you slut!” I said collapsing into Tye.
“Come on, I will take you back to mine.” He said, half carrying and half walking me outside. I heard him say a quick thank you to Sarah as we left.
“Do you want to tell me what this is all about?” Tye asked as we drove back to his house.
“I hate him! I hope he dies!” I said before passing out.
