Flann was sitting with Viktor and Candela in the official living room. This room was used for the most important occasions and was therefore little used. Flann looked at the empty chairs while they waited. He studied the details covered in gold leaves, against the rose red pillows. His eyes followed down the highly decorated lion feet to the red carpet.

Viktor: *sympathetic* Did you sleep well tonight?
Flann: *surprised* No. I couldn't stop thinking
Candela: *smirking* Thinking about Marlene?
Flann: *sigh* Yes, I regret pulling her into all this.
Candela: It's good that you think about her.
Flann: It's all because I once felt pity for her. She tried to starve herself to death because of me. I had to stop it. And we quickly became friends. And with that kiss, I realised we have become more than friends.
Viktor: Here she comes.

Marlene was escorted inside by four guards. She was more beautiful than ever. She was well groomed and wore her best clothes, but still. Had something happened to her?

Candela: I guess you know why you are here?
Marlene: *scowling* Because Flann couldn't keep our secret and now we have to be married.
Viktor: We found out because of the burn marks on Flann's clothes. And we are going to be nice to you two.
Marlene: How?
Candela: Flann is going to propose, but we will not force you.
Marlene: I promised my dead mother to take care of my younger siblings...
Flann: Who are now older than when you made that promise.
Marlene: My job is getting food on their table.
Candela: We can help them out financially.
Marlene: I see

There was an awkward silence. Both the queen and the high prince coughed and looked at Flann several times. A confused Marlene looked at them.

Viktor: Flann, you were going to propose to that girl, remember?
Flann: But I don't know if she wants to.
Candela: That's what proposal is. Asking. Now, go and propose.

Flann pulled Marlene out of the chair, so she was standing. He sat down on the floor with bowed head. Then he took fourth a small fruit and held it over his head.

Marlene: You aren't plucking a half-grown feather?
Candela: We aren't in Red kingdom any longer, so the prince of Fire should do it in Fire tradition.
Marlene: But we are Red...
Viktor: Let that boy propose
Flann: Marlene. Do you want to be my wife and the big sister of this country? Do you want us to nourish the tree of this fruit?

There was no reply. Flann felt the fruit tingling in his hands. He still looked down, wondering what her answer would be. She had gotten so hot when she got some fat on her hips. And the way she laughed. Sometimes he wanted to record that sound. Still no reply. He looked up. His heart ached. Had he destroyed her world? She looked out into the room, then she smiled. She sat down and kissed him.

Marlene: You have taken too much of my heart to let you go. I cannot imagine living my life without you. I don't want to be a monarch, but I'll be it for you.
Flann: So yes?
Marlene: Yes. I want to grow a tree of that fruit. Our tree.
Candela: Welcome to our family, princess.
Viktor: Viktoria, you of all people should know she is not a princess just yet. They aren't married yet.
Candela: Of course. I remember. When we are on this topic, do you want a new name?
Marlene: This is all so sudden. Let me think on that some time. But there is something I want to ask. That I can be home with my family for a couple of weeks, so I can prepare my siblings. They don't have a job.
Viktor: *shrugged* I am not against it.
Candela: It's ok. We understand.
