I shut my mouth and refused to answer questions from that point on. We got back to the room and I locked myself in the bathroom.

“Damn! Why did I not smell it?” Corina was wolf. A pup, but definitely wolf. And her wolf was starting to show itself. How had I not noticed the way she hunched over her bacon that morning? That was something all wolves did. She hadn't growled, but I searched my memory and remembered the animalistic look in her eyes.

“Kill me. I won't be able to be near her when her wolf decides to come out.” I heard a knock on the door and practically jumped out of my skin.

“Ember? Are you okay?” I didn't answer. Not at first, not in the way she expected. I unlocked the door, ditched my clothes and phased. I then padded out of the bathroom and curled up on my bed. I was glad wolves couldn't cry because the moment her hand touched my scruff, my human self broke. Ayla whimpered and tucked my tail under my noes. I pawed at the covers of the bed and she got my meaning. I huddled under the covers and closed my two colored eyes. My last thought before beautiful sleep crashed over me was wow, what golden eyes.

I woke up to the sound of whimpering. A wolf''s whimper. It couldn't have been me, because I'd phased back to human sometime in the night. Then I remembered my revelation from last night. Shit! The whimper was coming from her bed. Gently, I phased into a wolf and padded to her side.

Corina. You need to relax and not fight it. It'll be over faster that way. She was completely unaware of the fact that she was wolf, and didn't understand what I was talking about.

What will be over faster? I gazed down at the golden eyes that used to be brown. My eyes had been brown, but the first time I phased, they'd turned blue and brown. It was a normal part of wolf puberty.

You're wolf, Corina. You didn't know because the inner wolf hadn't come out yet. But you're about to meet your wolf-self. As suddenly as the whimpering started, it was gone. There on the bed was a beautiful black wolf with golden eyes. Ayla took control of my mind.

New wolf! What is your name? The new wolf cowered for a moment and hesitantly answered.

My name is Kora, what's yours? And... you're Ember's wolf right? Ayla nodded and let the wolf name roll off her tongue.

It's a beautiful name. As is the wolf it belongs to. I mentally slapped Ayla for letting that bit slip. The black wolf trembled, and her stomach gave a loud rumble. My stomach echoed hers and I flipped the lock off the window.

Well? I huffed. Are you coming? All the good geese will be gone! The other wolf nodded. I hopped out the window and slid down the window covers to land gracefully on the ground. I saw Kora falling and I slid just fast enough to get under her to soften her fall. Ayla grinned her little wolf grin as the younger wolf landed heavily on her.

Ayla! I yelled at myself. Corina's wolf eyes glittered as she heard my reprimand. I shook my head.

Let's hunt.
