He woke up to find Sara no longer sleeping in his arms
When he walked into the livingroom, he saw her on the couch
She just sat there, she didn't even move when he called her name
He quietly sat down beside her, brushing her hair out of her face,
he whispered her name.
She looked at him, just now noticing he was there
He stroked her cheek with the back of his hand
"What are you doing?"
She looked confused,
like she was coming back from a place, deep in the recesses of her mind
"Why are you sitting in the dark?"
"Couldn't sleep I guess"
She leaned her body against his, threading her fingers through his
"Why are you up?"
He pulled her closer to him, relishing in the feel of her body safe in his arms
"You weren't there"
She sat up alittle, bruises and contusions, making it painful to be held so tight
"He hurt you. pretty bad"
She closes her eyes for a second
"I'm used to it"
"You shouldn't be"
"It's just the way it is"
He cups her cheeks in his palms, gently resting his forehead against hers
"You deserve better than this"
She moves her head, heavy from exhaustion, to lay on his warm, comforting shoulder
"We don't always get what we deserve"
He brushes her hair with his long fingers
"I love you"
"You say that a lot"
"You deserve to hear it"
She tightens her arms around his neck
"I love you. so much"
"You're the only person I've ever said that to"
"What about your parents?"
She shook her head against his shoulder
His voice grew dark
She moved to face him
"That wasn't love"
"So what was it? I mean I know he was your dealer but.."
She bowed her head, to face her hands, but he brought her face back up to meet his eyes
"He was a way out, when I couldn't handle things at home"
"Were you inlove with him? In the beginning?"
"No, I always knew what he wanted,
But he gave me a place to stay, when I needed it, when there was no one else
he was the closest thing I had to someone who cared"
She saw the look of sadness and guilt on his face
and regretted having a past that could make him feel like that
I shouldn't be dumping this on you"
"I want to know everything about you"
"You sure about that?"
She let out a deep sigh
"It's a long story"
"You don't have to tell me everything at once, just let me in"
"You already are"
He got up from the couch reaching for her hand
"Come on. let's go back to bed"
