“Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on?” I asked. Starfire had raced back to the training center, dragging me along with her (quite roughly, I might add.) She was now pacing back and forth in agitation. Tamwyn was quite still, but looked worried. They were both silent. Starfire began punching the wall. “I deserve to know, don’t you think?” I shouted angrily. Starfire glared at me, but I refused to back down Something was up and it had to do wit h me.
“We’ll tell you in the morning.” Tamwyn sighed. “For now, just – just sleep.”
Star dragged their cot all the way across the massive room and behind a screen. I could hear them whispering all night long.
The next morning I woke up before sunrise. It seemed as if Star and Tamwyn were asleep. So I snuck out.
It was easier than I thought. The whole world seemed to be sleeping at this very moment. I walked into the prison to Eva’s cell, and peered into an empty space. She wasn’t there. I turned to the guards.
“Excuse me, but where is the Earth girl that was in the cell?” I asked, sounding desperate.
“I dunno.” Grunted the larger of the two. “Gone. We were given orders to let her out.”
“B-but” I stammered. “Where did she go?”
“Not our problem” he mumbled back.
I wanted to be tough and authoritative like Starfire, but I knew I didn’t have the strength or the guts to beat up these guys. So I stormed out, intent upon forcing Starfire and Tamwyn to explain what was going on, until I ran into the last person I expected to see here.
