We were home again, this time with a much bigger party. As in, a party of about two thousand to three thousand Water warriors that will take a lot of explaining, since the only way to the lake was straight through the city, and through the flower field as well. I reminded myself that once we reached the flower field, I would have to stress the importance of not stepping on any of the flowers, and that if they picked any of the flowers they would most certainly regret it for the rest of eternity. As we were walking, Flame suddenly turned to me and asked the last question I would have expected him to ask.
“Blaze says there are no last names here. But why is there a Hannah Santos?”
I laughed at the pure randomness of the question, and how inappropriate it was to ask that question while we’re marching Water soldiers to our land.
“Some parents like the concept of a last name. It is extremely rare, however, and when she earns her true name then she will drop the Santos part forever, and become some thing entirely new. Why do you ask?”
He shrugged. “Just wondering, I guess. There are so many little things that make complete sense to all of you guys, like naming people, but I’m still trying to figure everything out.”
“Well, you should probably speed up that process Flame, just saying.”
He scowled at me. “Well, I have another question then.”
I sighed, exasperated. “What is it now?”
“So, are the Earth people against Christians or some thing?”
“Wait – what?” I asked, not understanding the question at all.
He looked some what uncomfortable. “Well, you know, when we found her body, you know, Eva, she was nailed to a cross, like Jesus was. Were they making fun of Christians or something? I don’t get why they would.”
I laughed. “It is because the Earth tribe is ignorant of any thing having to do with humans. They knew a little bit about the Christian religion, and assumed that it was what all humans believed and followed. They thought that by nailing Eva to a cross, like Jesus Christ, that they would both scare you away and offend you greatly. It did neither. They do not hate Christians, they hate humans. There is a slight difference there, just one that they can not recognize. They are idiots.”
This time he laughed with me, shaking his head. “Evil and stupid is a bad combination, I think. They should really do their research first.”
I gave him a stern look. “Now Flame, remember what Tamwyn told you? They are not evil. The Earth people are just seriously, seriously misguided people. I do not think it is possible to be more misguided then they are, since their foolishness and ignorance and prejudice are leading to the destruction of the world as we know it.” He nodded as if I had just confirmed what he had initially said. “Yep,” he said confidently. “Evil. Evil and stupid.”
Blaze turned to me and asked what was possibly the most random question he could have asked. It was this:
“Do you know what bos-einstein is?” is what Blaze asked me, looking honestly curious.
“Um – no?” came my confused reply.
He sighed, sounding quite sad that I did not know. “It seems like nobody does, these days. Ah well, could be worse.”
