Jaime was running for her life.
She didn't know why and she didn't know what from, but she knew that if she didn't run away from her warm, comfortable home and her loving understanding parents, she would be dead in a matter of minutes.
So she ran. Away from the only people who accepted her for who she is. Tears ran down her face and her heart felt like it was going to jump out of her chest. She clumsily made her way through the thick mass of trees and bushes, scaring away all of the birds that were above her. Her light black sweater was being torn by branches and vines that seemed to be reaching out for her, trying to hold her back until fate caught up. But Jaime was stubborn. She pushed the vines away, not caring about the pain that came when thorns pricked her hands leaving little spots of blood that would soon drip away.
And then she heard footsteps. Jaime was sure that she was just imagining it, but then she knew. The footsteps were lighter than any human or any animal footsteps. They were like wind sweeping the ground without disturbing anything in its path, and they were chasing Jaime. She was scared. More scared than she has ever been. But she wasn't about to give up hope-the one thing keeping her alive and running.
The trees around her were getting bigger, thicker, taller, and their roots were starting to bend into odd shapes. She was running out of energy, out of breath, and her vision was being blurred by tears. Maybe that was why she tripped over the root. But whatever the reason, Jaime tripped. Her elbow got skinned on a rock and her face landed in a pile of leaves. She tried twisting her foot out from under the root, ignoring the pain that told her she might've twisted her ankle. She felt the tears go down her face and fall into her already matted long dark- brown hair. She couldn't believe she was supressing a laugh. Her mom always lectured her, saying that she was going to get into trouble if she stayed this clumsy. Now the footsteps were closer, and she was mad at herself for not saying goodbye to her family. Just as Jaime thought her life was almost over, she was saved by a strange miracle.
She didnt understand the next two minutes of her life. The last thing she knew, she was almost about to die because her clumsy mind didn't let her know that she had to jump over the tree root. Then someone- something, jumped over her, crouching in and preparing to fight. The shape of the figure resembled a boy-no older than herself. His hair was tousled from running and his whole body was making swift quick movements, as if he was fighting off something even he couldn't see. All of a sudden the feel of danger vanished, and the boy just stopped moving and stood there. He turned around and gently picked up Jaime. Her foot that was stuck slipped out, leaving her shoe behind and her sock dangling halfway off of her foot. Before she could think about what was happening she was being carried off by a stranger, in the small town of Lehigh. Jaimes hair was falling like drapes over the sides of her face, and for some reason Jaime was getting angry. She struggled to turn, to see who had grabbed her. Finally, after 5 minutes of struggling, Jaime turned her body enough to get a glimps of her saviors face. He was beautiful-more beautiful than any one she has ever seen. He looked down at her,and the moment their eyes met Jaime felt angry, full of pure hatred, but also love. (You will go to sleep), the boy's calm voice whispered in her mind, (And you will not remember any of the things that just happened.) She could suddenly feel herself getting more and more tired with every second that passed by. Jaime fought to keep her eyes open, wanting to just stare at his face until their was no more life left in her. He suddenly stopped and looked down at Jaime, not meeting her eyes directly. "Hold on." He told her, and at first Jaime didnt understand, but she tightened her grip and closed her eyes anyways. The wind suddenly blew in her face, making her feel like she was going up intp the sky. She opened her eyes and reslized she was on top of a very tall tree. All the houses looked like little ants, which made her hyperventilate. "Dont worry." The boy said, and then he let her drop off the tree. Before she could react...
Jaime blacked out.
