I looked him over to see if he was actually going to try anything. I wasn’t sure, so I stood up and tried to move forward. He closed the distance between us and held the handcuff in my face, swinging it back and forth. I guessed it was his silent way of asking me to surrender, but I shook my head. He sighed.

“Just lay down so I can put it on. You are just making it harder on yourself,” he said exasperated.

“I don’t want it on. It hurts my wrist,” I complained.

“Well, I don’t trust you. And it’s going to hurt you a lot more if I have to force it on you.”

I started getting nervous, but I wasn’t going to back down now. I held his gaze and attempted to step past him. At that moment he stuck his arm out and pushed me back towards the bed. I stumbled but regained my balance. It didn’t matter though, because he pushed me again, this time with both hands. We ended up falling on the bed, him on top of me. His hands were on each of my shoulders holding me down. I noticed he wasn’t putting too much of his weight on me, so I wasn’t hurt. His face was close to mine and his eyes were intense and smoldering. I started squirming underneath him, bringing up my hands to push against his chest. He then shifted his position. One of his hands grabbed both of my wrists and brought them above my head. With his other hand he started moving down my leg. I gasped, and started freaking out. I was expecting the worst, but then his hand came back up. I then realized he was just grabbing the handcuff that was beside my leg.

I let out an annoyed sound, and Ethan laughed. He finally got the handcuff on my wrist and attached to the bed. He stood up off the bed and looked at me. At the same time my stomach growled really loud. I hadn’t eaten anything for quite a while. He looked at me and sighed.

“What was that?” he asked.

“It was my stomach. I’m hungry.”

He pinched the bridge of his nose and seemed to be thinking. He left the room briefly and came back with the key. He went over to me and stopped.

“If I let you get something to eat, will you stop fighting me about the handcuff?”

“Yes,” I was too hungry and weak to care.

He unlocked the handcuff once again and walked me to the door. He looked at me and said with a very serious tone “I don’t expect any trouble from you.”

I nodded and he opened the door. He led me down the hallway again and down the stairs. We went into the kitchen. It was small and simple. There were dishes in the sink that were piling up, and on the table I could see empty beer cans. I looked around more and saw the living room and front door. I wasn’t going to try anything because I knew I would be going home soon enough.

Ethan looked in the fridge and then back at me.

“Do you have any food allergies?”

“No,” I responded.

He started to get out ingredients to make a salad and placed them on the messy counter. I sat down and watched him in silence for a while. He finished the food and gave me a bowl.

I ate the salad quickly. After I was done I put my bowl down and looked at Ethan.

“Have you talked to my parents?” all I really wanted to do was go home.

“No. I’ve called the number a few times, but haven’t gotten an answer. Do you know if they have gone out anywhere?”

I thought about his question and froze. My eyes went big as I remembered what my parents had told me. Friday morning after I had left for school, they were heading to the airport. They were both catching a plane to Tokyo, to go on a one month business trip.

I was filled with despair as realization hit me. Nobody could get in contact with my parents. I was going to be stuck here for a while.
