Pants of haggard breaths disturbed the air as he thudded through the forest. Gathers of wild flowers marked the trail. The sun’s orbit gleamed through the webs of branches, chasing away the shadows that masked the forest’s contents.

Moving along the shadows, navigating its way through plants and over roots and fallen branches, was a cold-blooded spectator. It stalked its prey through the forest. Its large yellow eyes glaring, but what drew you in, were hand-carved slits; its contrast frightening to the onlookers. No light reflected on its cool pupils, its camouflage; perfect.

The slithering resided as it sensed the blood of its feathery prey. In a whip of its body, the snake flew forwards, revealing two daggers. Too Late… The snake flicked its tongue, hissing in annoyance, and pulled back to search for a replacement meal.

The bird managed to escape within seconds of its attacker. It spread its speckled feathers, catching the wind, guiding it as it spiraled upwards. Did it know how lucky it was to have survived? How lucky it was, being capable of living man’s most-wanted dream? No, the bird had other things to focus on. It moved purely by instinct. Every inch was headed towards its next meal, its next survival tactic. The bird had no time to enjoy its flights. It had no need.
