Is it a bird?! Is it a plane!? NO! it's the former ;)

Lost in the clouds,

You can almost feel them flow,

across the heights of the sun,

mapping the wind,

following their shadows,

traveling the path between space and earth,

buffeted by the wind,

a perfect dance of cheated fate,

they have given life to certain death,

fooling gravity they fly,

but not for long,

for as they grow tired

the earth's core does not.

What an insightful and sweet poem, Shawni! Seems no matter how high you soar, sooner or later you have to come back down because the Earth will always be waiting.

What a wonderfully written piece this is. Simple and so beautiful. I love it. I am such a fan of nature writing. This imagery in this poem in amazing. I have to agree with the same thoughts as Evelina. We are born in the world and go through so much trails, tribulations and joy only to face death at the end. But the earth will not rot away as our bodies do. And what a fantastic though that is. That there is hope for new life as the planet lives on.

Very well written. Took me a while before I got the full effect all poetry is different but the best are when you have to think about them. PS A loved one is looking death in the face... the days are numbered, but I have faith and pray we know what to do when the time comes! :) For all of us there is a day we will have to choose!
