Eden threw her necessities into the old bag. First she stuffed her money, saved up over many years, into her pockets. She had £78.50 which would be a sufficient amount. At sixteen a job would not be hard to find. Next she grabbed warm clothes for the winter and some lighter ones for summer. She added extra layers to her clothing but still keeping it light and inconspicuous. After her clothes she grabbed her toiletries; her toothbrush, toothpaste and shower gel. She knew she would need food, that would have to wait until her parents were in bed, she would grab some and throw it in her bag taking a drink or two with her. Most people by now would be too sleepy or scared to follow through with their plans. Eden was too scared of staying to feel sleepy or get cold feet at the last minute.
It was long after ten o'clock when her parents went to bed. Luckily they didn't come in to say goodnight. She waited until her parents were breathing steadily before she dared move. When they were in deep slumber she carefully put her duffel bag on her shoulder and crept down the stairs, it was dark but she knew the room well as it had been the same layout for as long as she could remember. She made her way to the fridge, from there she picked up some pre-made sandwiches and leftovers from the nights dinner. She went to the cupboard and grabbed an Apple and a banana from the fruit bowl, the she grabbed a whole pack of biscuits and some crisps. She didn't want to risk taking lots so headed for the door. She put on her large coat and quietly unlocked the deadbolt. She slowly lifted the catch. Taking deep breaths she opened the door. Outside mist danced around the streets and tickled Eden's burning cheeks. A small drizzle of fading rain darted about, playing in the darkened twilight. Eden looked back inside the house, it looked dark, sinister with hidden things about to pounce, but the street outside looked inviting yet mysterious. Eden took a long, calming breath to steady herself. Then with the door easing shut begging her Eden took a quiet step, her first step towards freedom . . .
