Marcie called it a fresh start at a new place.

I called it a brand new hell hole. You see, school has never been fun for me. I have always stayed quiet and out of the way, which, if course made me an easier target for the bullies and preppy girls.

" Don't worry! You'll fit right in." I could hear the hesitation in my foster sisters, Maria, voice. And that was without my powers, but I could read her thoughts clear as day, as though she was projecting them at me.

She won't last a day wearing that. I have to stay nice to her though, because of her parents. God, what will my friends say when I'm nice to her?

" You don't have to be nice to me. I'd be worried if you were. " I said with a knowing smirk. Her eyes widened with surprise.

" W-what?" She stuttered.

" Don't worry about it, I'm used to being picked slowly away by bullies. Every cruel word and action, ripping away at my soul." I said, with mocking smirk still on my face. Maria's eyes widened even more and her thoughts became stuttered and blurry as she fought for something to say. She was saved when Marcie walked in.

"Is everything ok?" She asked, seeing our faces.

" Of course." I replied. "Why wouldn't it be? It's not like my father hated me so much he slit my throat before killing my mother and himself. Oh wait! He did." My voice grew darker and darker throughout my tirade.

" Oh, Fyre..." I could feel her pity and despair wracking my entire body.

"I don't need your pity!" I screeched. I hadn't realised how loud my voice had gotten. I lowered it back to normal. " I have to go. "

I grabbed my violet bag from the island and threw on my black boots, leaving without another word.

*~*

It was a short walk to the school, so I soon found myself standing in front of it, staring. It was tiny! Compared to the school I came from, it was like a chihuahua next to a husky. I would have no problems here. How could I get lost when there was probably twenty rooms, max? Who would pick on me when they were probably all redneck farm kids? I almost laughed. Then I picked up on the thoughts inside.

God, look at what she's wearing.

Nice! New selection of nerds coming in.

I wonder if my hair is ok. I hope my clothes look nice.

I guess people think the same no matter where you go.

" Hey. Nice neck!" A voice called. My hands shot up to my neck and panic coursed through me until I snatched on to the persons thoughts. Oh, he meant my choker. I never left home without it and my leather jacket anymore. The choker covered my scar perfectly and my jacket was my shield.

My eyes searched the crowd for whoever had shouted.

" So it's your first day here." The voice asked from right beside me. I jumped at least a foot and landed wrong on my heeled knee boots. I felt my ankle twist and I started to tip. The guy grabbed my shoulders and righted me. I glared at him and he dropped his hands, but kept one outstretched for a handshake.

"Hey my name is Jay Lennon." He glanced down at my hand. " You know I did save you from extreme embarrassment. You at least owe me a handshake."

The guy had light brown hair that wasn't long, but it was long enough to be in his eyes. He was handsome enough, but nothing spectacular. He had the kind of smile on his face that made you think he was. He was wearing a plain black t-shirt and jeans. We match. I thought stupidly. What was my problem? Why was I thinking about how our clothes match? And why did my thoughts lose focus? Jerk.

" I don't owe anybody anything, ever." I said. " And I don't touch people." Touching only magnified my powers.

" You certainly have a lot of rules."

This guy wasnt going to take no for an answer and I really didn't want to be late on my first day. Fine. I shook his hand and he grinned.

" See you soon. " He said before dissapearing into the crowd.

I stood there for a few moments thinking about his words. I'll see you soon. Not if I can help it. A thought entered my mind and I felt my body jerk with shock. I didn't read anything from him the whole time.
