Finally it’s Sunday. I’ve been waiting weeks for this day to come, but now that it’s finally here I’m nervous. I crawl out of bed an hour before Magnum plans to pick me up, and I instantly go to change. I slide the first shirt I grab on, and I slide my favorite green skinny jeans on. I brush out my hair, brush my teeth, and eat breakfast. I text Magnum, and to my surprise she’s awake. A half hour later she arrives at my house with Jesse and Taylor. I run outside into the passenger’s seat and slide my seat belt on. “Good morning, sunshine,” Magnum smiles at me.

“Moring, Mag,” I reply.

“Are you excited?” Taylor asks.

“A bit, but I’m more nervous than anything. I haven’t seen him in longer than a month, you know.”

“Oh we know,” Jesse laughs.

I turn on the radio to our favorite rock station to catch Shinedown’s song Bully. Taylor and Jesse sing to it as I pay attention to the road counting down to how many miles away we were. Ten, five, one… I get more nervous by the mile. When we arrive at the prison I sigh. “Thanks, Magnum. Go have fun.”

“We’ll pick you up in about an hour, okay?” Magnum tells me.

“That works for me.” I walk out of the car and slam the door behind me. I walk into the prison and ask to see Ricky. I get brought to their meeting room to wait for them to get him. We’re not allowed to touch, and they made that very clear to us.

Ricky starts to tear up. “Oh, Rose, I’ve missed you so much!” he says.

“I’ve missed you too, Ricky,” I tell him putting my fingers over my eyes to stop the tears from falling. “It’s been too long. I can’t take it anymore. I wanna be with you and I’m getting more and more anxious by the day.” I remove my fingers from around my eyes.

“Baby, I am too, believe me. I have this calendar hanging in my cell and I keep crossing the days off. I can’t believe I did that to you, and I never should have. I don’t regret it though, but it was a mistake.” Ricky lets his tears fall.

“No, it wasn’t even a mistake! We’re together, and we’re here, and we’ll be getting married when we can. I love you so damn much”

“I know there was a better way; there always is. I was just too stubborn to think of one.”

“Ricky, it’s fine. It’s the past, and right now we have to get pass this!”

“I know, and I know we can. Tell me what’s going to happen next.”

“Well you’re going to continue to wait here while my heart tears more and more at home. I’m going to continue working while Taylor and Magnum help me. Four months from now we should have enough money to bail you out. I can’t wait.”

“We’re only a month in… I don’t know if I can wait.”

“You not being able to wait? Ricky, I love you to death and I have to watch everybody around me be with the person they love. I can’t have you because you’re here!”

“Rose…”

“No, Ricky, you might be arrested, but I believe I have it worse!”

“If that’s what you think I’ll take your word on it, okay?”

“Okay…”

“How are you? I’ve really missed you.”

“I’m really great now that I’ve had the chance to see you. I’ll be able to see you next month, and the month after, and the month after I’ll be taking you home.”

“Your parents don’t care about me living there?”

“That’s the thing… I’ll have to sit and have a very serious conversation with them about it. They can’t take me serious enough right now. Dad doesn’t understand how I could love you when you’ve done what you did to me even if I explain over and over again. It never seems to work.”

“We can get through this, Rose.” Ricky holds out his hand like he’s tempted to break the rules just to hold mine. I think about it for a few seconds, but if they do see us touch they’ll take him away immediately.

I sigh and decide to blow Ricky a kiss. He smiles.
