Darkness soon fell upon the house and everything was silent. A soft, gentle breeze ghosted through the streets. Inside the house it was just as silent. Erik had his head down and hadn’t spoken a word sense he demanded that I stay by his side. After sitting there for a while I decided to go and put Erik’s younger sisters in my bed so that they could get some rest. I walked back into the living room and saw Erik in the same position that he had been in when I left, sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. I sighed and took a seat next  to him. I didn’t know if I should break the silence or let it linger.

“So…” I paused and looked over in his direction, but he still hadn’t moved. “What’s your next move?” I asked hoping for a reply. At first I didn’t think he was going to answer, But I saw him shrug his shoulders instead of talking. I had a feeling that was all I was going to get out of him. I sighed in defeat and got up to get some blankets and pillows. I walked back with said items and started to lay them on the hard wooden floor. Sense the girls had the bed and Erik was most likely going to take the couch I had no chose but to settle for the floor.

“What are you doing?” I heard Erik’s faint voice come from behind me.

“Getting ready for bed.” I answered without sparing him a glance. I heard some shuffling from behind me but I didn’t pay much attention to it. He was probably just getting up to get a tomato or something. I was kneeling next to my make shift bed when suddenly Erik came out of nowhere and laid down on what I was working on.  “What the heck Erik! I wasn’t in the middle of something!”

“Yeah, yeah, just go sleep on the couch okay.” It didn’t sound like that was up for argument, so I listened to what he had to say and went to lay on the couch, After I shut off the light of course.

“Why are you being so nice to me?” I asked curling up in his blankets.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m only returning a favor.”

“A favor?”

“You let me sleep in your bed remember?”

“Oh yeah. Hey I got a question.”

“What is it?” I peeked over to where he was laying and he had his eyes closed. If he hadn’t been talking to me then I would have thought he was sleeping.

“Why do you like tomatoes so much?” I asked just trying to take his mind off of his brother for the time being.

“I don’t know I just think there tasty that’s all, why do you ask?”

“No reason just trying to have a pointless conversation.”

“I see.”

“So you can go ahead and ask me a pointless question.”

“ umm, which one of your parents do you resemble the most?”

“My mom, at least that’s what my dad always told me. So who do you get your looks from?”

“I don’t really resemble either of my parents, I guess that god just blessed me with good looks.”

“Stop being so conceded.” He cracked one eye open and looked at me for a moment.

“I’m not being conceded I’m just telling the truth, don’t you agree?” He smirked at me and I saw amusement dancing in his eyes.  Looks like he’s feeling better.

“No I don’t.” I said giving him a serious look. It didn’t seem to work. Who am I kidding nothing I ever works.

“Answered a little quick there Kayla, don’t worry I’ll keep your little crush on me a secret.” I glared for a minute then closed my eyes to go to sleep. “If you want I can even come up there and cuddle with you like we did this morning.” I grabbed whatever I could reach on the coffee table and chucked it in his direction. I don’t know exactly  what I throw, but whatever it was hit the floor with a loud thump.

“ Don’t even mention that to me.” I said warning him not to speak of what had happened earlier that day.

“Alright, alright, touchy much. I was just joking.”

“Whatever just get some sleep.”

“Night to you to.” After that I slowly drifted off to sleep wondering what tomorrow would bring.
