Chapter 10. Home Sweet Home

Naomi's POV.

I was shocked to see my mother. And I'm a still a little pissed at her for never sticking up for me.

"Mom? What the hell are you doing here?"

Her eyes were rimmed with red, and she had Louis Vuitton bags under her eyes, as my grandmother would say. She sniffed, and dabbed her eyes with a silk handkercheif. I noticed she didn't have on her wedding ring, or any jewelry my father gave her.

"I'm here to take you home, baby." She says, attempting a smile. I cross my arms.

"I'm a disgrace. I was kicked out. You should remember that as clear as day, considering you stood there, and did nothing about it."

She winces at my words, and my face softens a little, wondering if I was too harsh.

"I left your father, Naomi. I caught him sleeping with another woman. I have my own place now, and I plan to get full custody of you, darling."

I roll my eyes. "Mom, I'm almost 18. No need for that." I say, crossing my arms again. I realize we have an audience now, of Emilee, Trent, and August.  My mother looks past me, at them.

"Aren't you going to introduce me to your friends?" She asks, hopeful.

"Fine," I say, unthrilled. "Mom, this is August, Trent, and Emilee. Guys..this is my mother."

"Nice to meet you," She says, plastering a fake smile on her face.

"Likewise," Emilee says, genuinely smiling.

I clear my throat, hoping they get that I need to be alone with my mother, and they finally do, and go into the nursery. I gesture to the couch, and we sit down.

Silent, awkward tension builds up between us, until she finally breaks it.

"Sweet heart, you know what your father has done to me in the past. I didn't want to get beaten again." She says, looking down at her dainty, manicured hands.

"I know mom, but it would have been nice for once. Just once! But you didn't, and never will."

She sighs. "Honey, that isn't true. I love you very, very, much. I want you to come live with me. Start a new life," she whispers, stroking my hair.

"I can't," I whisper, as a tear falls down my cheek.

"What? Of course you can! Your father's gone."

I shake my head, crying harder. "And so am I, mom! I'm not the same any more. I've changed. I have friends, I'm pregnant! And I finally found someone, who loves me the way I am."

She smiles, and sighs. "Honey, August will understand."

"No, he won't- wait, how did you know it was August?" I ask, curiously.

She laughs, and waves her hand in the air.

"I see the way you look at each other," she says, looking me in the eye. I blush, and tuck a stray hair behind my ear. "Now Naomi, I know you love each other. But that doesn't mean you can do things you shouldn't."

My eyes go wide, and my jaw drops open. "Mom we are not having-"

"It may not be safe for the baby! If he is on top of you, what if he-"

"Mom! We aren't doing anything! And I do not want to have the sex talk, again!"

She laughs, again, and I smile. She stands, and walks to the door. "Now, just be careful. You may want to at some point!"

"Mother!" I say, laughing.

"Alright, I'm going. But I want to see you soon. How's breakfast on Sunday?"

I smile. "That sounds great mom."

She smiles and hugs me, then leaves.

I sigh relief, and hear laughing in the nursery. I storm in, and find them all rolling on the ground, clutching their stomachs laughing.

"Want the sex talk, Naomi?" Trent asks, and they burst out laughing again. I end up laughing too.

"Shut up!" I say, still laughing, and smiling.
