I wasn’t sure where it came from, and I couldn’t tell if I was still dreaming, but a blood-curdling scream caught my attention. I bolted up from my bed, scaring the hell out of Moo who must’ve been sleeping by me this entire time.

I looked over to the faint glow of my alarm clock, and saw the time was 4:14 AM. You’ve got to be freakin’ kidding me. Who the hell is screaming at this time?

The scream must’ve came from outside. I walked over to the window. It was still dark outside. The skyline was just turning a dull blue. I could see lights turning on inside the houses across the street. What the hell was going on?

Just then, more screams emerged from the houses. I watched as more and more houses filled with light. I could see people running around frantically in their houses.

And then, from my own house, I heard a scream that sent shivers up my spine. I ran out into the hallway and sprinted down the stairs. I could see the light gleaming down the hallway from my parents’ bathroom. I rounded the corner to see my dad staring at himself in the mirror with horror. I slowly walked closer.

“Dad?” My voice was hoarse and deep. It must’ve been dry. I haven’t had anything to drink since yesterday when I…I don’t even remember now! Not getting a response from my dad, I repeated again, “dad?” I was a little louder this time, but my voice was still deep and sore.

He turned towards me, and his eyes grew even wider. I would’ve never thought that could be possibly with how wide they previously were. Just then, he let out a cry that I’d never heard before.

When he finally fell silent again, I walked a little bit closer. “W-who are you?” He asked me.

I rolled my eyes. “Dad, it’s me, Isabella.”

“I-Isabella? No you’re not! T-That’s not possible!”

“Dad why are you stuttering?”

“I-I’m not your father…” was the answer I got. I got a little closer and realized that it was indeed…NOT…my father.

“Who the hell are you then?” I asked without hesitation? Just then a scream from upstairs echoed down the stairs and to our ears. I turned around and darted up the stairs. I burst into Ella’s room which was across from mine, and I inched towards the bathroom door.

The light was shining onto her bed from the open bathroom door. I peered around the corner in horror. That was not my sister staring in the mirror. The boy in the bathroom was touching his face, feeling it at every inch.

I finally stood in the doorway with horror. “Who are you?” I asked, again without hesitation.

The boy turned at me and screamed…even louder than the first time. “WHO ARE YOU?!” He replied with an eerie, squeaky voice!

“It’s me! Isabella!” The boy’s eyes grew wider and then walked over to stand in front of me. I thought he was going to stop there, but he grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled me forwards. I was standing in front of the mirror with this boy, and I hesitated to look, until he pointed to us.

I gazed at the two identical boys in the mirror. I held my arm up, and so did the boy in the mirror. I waved my arm back and forth, and then touched my face. The boy in the mirror mimicked me. What the hell is going on?

I looked over at the boy, and there was still horror on his face. Soon enough, my face matched.

After staring at ourselves in the mirror in silence, I braved up enough to speak. “E-Ella?”

The boy nodded.

“W-What,” I couldn’t even stand to hear my own boyish voice, “What’s going on?”

The boy shrugged, chewing on his fingernails. “I have absolutely no clue!”

I ran out of the bathroom and back downstairs. “MOM! DAD!” I ran over to my parents’ bathroom again, seeing both a mysterious man and a mysterious woman standing in front of the mirror in horror. I could hear frantic footsteps coming down the stairs, and I knew Ella was coming down after me.

The man and woman were staring at me, and soon Ella too when she finally stopped beside me. The man and woman stepped out of the bathroom, turning the hallway light on.

I looked at them both. “Mom?” The man nodded.

Then, in Ella’s shaky voice, “Dad?” The woman nodded.

My mom’s shaky voice joined, “Ella?” The boy next to me nodded.

Then my dad’s voice spoke straight at me, “Bell?” I felt myself nod.

No one had any clue what was going on. We received a ton of calls before 6 AM from many of our neighbors, all asking the same thing. “Did it happen to you too?”

Ella and I sat at the table, still shocked as hell. I slowly ate my soggy Cheerios, and munched on my burnt toast. It was only a little after 6. I wasn’t sure what we were going to do about school today.

“Mom,” I said slowly, after swallowing another icky bite of my Cheerios.

“Yes Honey?” My mom said in his creepy man voice.

“One,” I said instantly, “don’t ever say Honey with your new voice. And two, what are we going to do about school today?”

“Well, you’re still going to go.”

I sighed. “Are you serious? I’m not going to go looking like…well, looking like this!”

“Bell you’re still going to school. You’ve already missed so many days this year. Besides, the school year is almost done anyway.”

Ella sighed as well. “Mom, could you at least take me shopping for some…boy clothes?”

I elbowed her. “You can’t be serious El. You wake up as a guy, and you’re okay with it?”

She shrugged. “Sometimes you just have to make the best out of a crappy situation Bell.” She grabbed a newspaper and started reading.

I rolled my eyes.

“See Bell, you should learn to be a little bit more like your sister.”

I rolled my eyes again. “Daaad,” I whined.

“What Bell?” There was obviously anger in my father’s voice. Having an angry voice, and a feminine voice, do not go together, so I couldn’t help but chuckle to myself.

“Dad please tell me I don’t have to go to school today!”

“Bell listen to your mother. You’re going to school whether you like it or not.”

My mom threw her dirty bowl into the sink and rinsed it out. “Bell do you want to come with El and me to Walmart for some clothes?”

“I’d rather eat my own underwear,” I said, and I walked away from the table, stomped up the stairs and went back to my room.
