The next day was Sunday. I had just went out to lunch with Kanon at Pizza Hut. She said that her baby appointment went super good and the doctor said that everything looked healthy with the baby. She was about 2 months pregnant now.

When we got back to the dorm Genna was sitting on the futon--with Theo. They were laughing when we walked in, but stopped once they saw me.

"Oh, hey, Amberly. Hey, Kanon." Genna greeted awkwardly. I looked at Genna, then at Theo, then back to Genna.

"Hi." I said flatly.

Kanon giggled. "What's going on in here?"

Genna looked at Theo with a smile, then down at her lap, then back at Kanon and me. "Oh, nothing. We're just talking." She said.

Theo shot up off the futon. "I'm gonna run, girls. Got to put a few finishing touches on my project," He walked over to the door and shot me and adorable smile. "See ya later." And he left.

I cleared my throat. "So, what was Theo doing here?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Oh, nothing. We were just talking." She told me, changing the channel on the televison.

"Mhmm... what about?" I asked.

"Nothing in particular." She said, not looking away from the screen.

"So, let me get this straight. He walked all the way across campus, up to our room, to talk to you about nothing in particular?" I asked.

She looked at me and laughed. "Jeez, what is this, an interregation?"

I didn't say anything, I just looked at her blankly.

"Okay, if you want to know so badly, I'll tell you," She paused, and got a giant smile on her face. "He asked me to the dance!" She sqealed.

I didn't say anything. I just stood there with the same blank expression on my face. Kanon on the other hand was delighted to celebrate the news with her. When she noticed I hadn't said anything her expression fell.

"Is everything alright?" She asked. That was it. I lost it.

"No! Everything is NOT alright, Genna! This is just the cherry on top of my shit storm of a week! Thanks for asking!" I was about to storm out of the room when she grabbed my arm, and shut the door with her other hand.

"What is it?" She asked in a calm voice.

I nearly screamed. "What is it? What is it?! I've known that kid for ten years. Ten fucking years! I have yet to convince him to go to any type of dance in that entire time! That includes weddings, most parties--any type of situation where there was a chance there was dancing, and then you come along and he doesn't even think twice about it! He literally just told me he was in love with me, and when I tell him I don't feel the same he gets over in a second and is banging my roommate!" I was screaming at this point. "So no, everything is most certainly not alright." Neither of them said anything and I took that as my opportunity to leave. Genna was staring blankly down at the floor. Wow, she doesn't say anything and she can't make eye contact. There's a true friend. Then, I left.

I needed to vent to someone, but I realized I had no one to talk to. For the first time I couldn't take my problems to Theo. The lump in my throat burned and the tears started rolling down my cheeks. I stopped walking and slumped down in the hall and cried into my knees. A few minutes later I heard footsteps approach and then stop in front of me.

"Amberly?" I heard the female voice ask. I looked up. Shay stood before me, looking down with a concerned look on her face. "What's wrong?"

"Everything." I sobbed.

She held out her hand. "Come on." She said in a sweet voice. I took her hand and she helped me stand up. She lead me back to her dorm and sat me down in a bean bag chair, while she sat across from me on her bed.

"Now, tell me what's bothering you." She said, in a calm and quiet voice.

I broke down then. I told her everything, and I mean everything. From how I felt about Theo to the Mackenzie situation, to everything in between. She didn't say anything while I talked, she just listened quietly. Then, I finished and she stood up.

"Well, what Mackenzie did to you was horrible and he is where he belongs. I wouldn't be too worried about him getting out and coming after you. It is a huge chunk of change to get him bailed out. I don't think anyone in his family has that kind of money. Then again, I didn't know him at all. Shiloh never talks about their financial situation so I have no idea, but I wouldn't worry about that." She started. "And about Theo... well he sounds pretty serious about Genna if he's taking her to a dance and that's something not even you have been able to get him to do. I'm sorry to say it, Amberly, but he may be moving on. I think you lost your chance." She said, solemnly.

I nodded in understanding. I had basically come to terms with that myself. But, why did he have to go out with my roommate?

"You should've told him the minute you realized your feelings, regardless of the situation." She told me.

I nodded again. "I should've, but he's over me. I'm too late." I said, choking back another round of sobs.

"My advice for you--tell him you love him. The worst that could happen is what you're already speculating."

I nodded once to show my understanding. She was right. This charade has gone on long enough. I needed to tell Theo I loved him. "I'm gonna do it." I told Shay with a smile.

"Good, go get him." She said, giving me a pat on the back. I looked at the digital clock on the dresser behind her.

"Tomorrow." I told her with a laugh. She joined in my laughter.

"Well, technically it is tomorrow." She laughed.

I thanked Shay and headed back to my room. I opened the door, but stopped when I heard Genna whispering. I peaked my head through the crack and saw Genna sitting on the futon with her phone held up against her ear. I couldn't see Kanon, but I'd imagine she was asleep. Genna's conversation sounded a little something like this.

"Maybe we just shouldn't do this, Theo.--

Why not? Because! You should've seen her, she totally flipped out on me. It isn't right for us to do this to her.--

I'm sure she'll be okay, but she isn't right now!--

I don't know I'm having second thoughts about all of this.--

Aww, okay you convinced me. Goodnight, sugar." She giggled, then hung up.
You have got to be kidding me. These two were secretly dating, and Theo felt no remorse about it. He had to talk her into staying with him because she felt pity on me. What is going on?

I walked into the room, causing Genna to nearly fly up through the ceiling. "Hey, where have you been? I've been worried sick." She told me.

I rolled my eyes at her in disgust. "Oh, is that what you were talking to sugar about?" I asked, in a mocking tone.

Her eyes looked like they were about to pop out of her skull. "Oh...I...uh..." She stammered.

"Yeah, save it. I heard everything. I know you two are together." I said, storming over to my bed.

"I thought you were okay with it?" She asked, curiosity sparking in her eyes.

I groaned. "I am!" I lied. "But why did you hide it from me?"

"Because...we didn't want you to react how you are now."  She told me in a quiet voice.

I crossed my arms over my chest. "I don't buy that at all."

She cleared her throat. "Well, that's the truth," She said, looking down at the floor, then back up at me. "If you don't believe it then I don't know what to tell you."

I was trying to wrap my mind around this idea of Theo and Genna together and I just couldn't. Mostly because I could only picture him with me.

"I don't know, something just isn't adding up with your story." I told her honestly.

She walked up to me and looked me in the eyes. "Everything will work itself out, I swear." Then she turned and crawled into bed.
