Amy Neilson was sitting in class. Head glued to the back of her hand, a dream passing through her mind. As her eyes began to flutter open she sat up and looked around, remembering that they were in the middle of correcting a grammar worksheet in Language Arts. Mr. Meyers was going on and on like usual about the correct spelling and use in context of certain words. Amy looked at a grey sweatshirt that she was wearing. For a second, being still a bit groggy from being asleep, she couldn’t quite remember who’s coat it was, because it sure as hell wasn’t hers. Suddenly, a thought popped into her mind. It’s Todd’s! As Amy sat still zoned out, a smell that disgusted her filled her nose. But she had smelled the stench before, but where? Amy then realized that it was the girl next to her. She reeked of weed. She needed to get out of that classroom, away from the girl, away from everything. Richard Jenson Jr. High was like a fun house. Mirrors all pointing to you, you never being one hundred percent sure where you’re going. Amy always felt like everyone was looking at her, looking for reasons to pull her down. It was just sticky drama all that way. A loud bell rang in Amy’s ears and she stood up making her way out of class. Mr. Meyers had his back turned to the class as he wrote on the board. “See you tomorrow class” He said as they all departed. While following her fellow students out of the class, Amy stripped herself of Todd’s coat and held it in her arms. Emma ran up behind her, happy and giddy as usual, and began to try to cheer her up. “Not now Emma. Not in the mood for this.” Amy looked away at the floor. “Awww okay.” Emma sounded disappointed. “You need a hug?” “Umm, no, it’s okay” Amy turned back to her and Emma hugged her. “Oh com’on… Really?” Emma happily walked away into her science class. Amy turned around to see Todd walking to class. “Todd!” When he turned around Amy threw his coat at him. “Thanks for letting me use it.” Todd began to walk over to her and he looked at Amy. “You okay?” “Yeah, I’m fine” she said looking at the floor. He swung that jacket in his hand towards her and it lightly hit her in the leg. “Be happy.” He said softly. “No” “Be happy. Smile” Todd kept hitting her with his coat. “No. And you gonna keep doing that?” Amy looked up into Todd’s brown eyes. “I’ll stop once you smile.” He had a smirk on his face and Amy held back a smile. “Noooo” She grabbed the coat and threw it down the hall onto the floor. Todd shrugged and walked into his class muttering an “Okay” jokingly. Amy opened the door and yelled to him. “Okay, but I’m not getting it for you.” Todd walked back into the hallway and yelled out “French” To Brandon French up the hall, he turned around. “Can you go get my coat for me?” Amy looked at French and yelled “NO!” Running behind French and grabbing onto his backpack so he couldn’t go anywhere. “Amy, really?” French got free from her weak grasp and began to walk to Todd’s coat on the floor. Amy broke into a run, trying to get it before him. She fell to the ground, and sat there as French won and picked up the coat. “Douche bag!” Amy said, crossing her arms and looking at French. Amy’s friend Adam walked up to them and looked down at Amy. He held his hand out to help her up and she took it. Once up, she looked into the Science room at Todd. He sat on the counters laughing at her. Amy flashed him her middle finger and began to make her way up to her History classroom. The halls upstairs were empty, and Amy began to wonder if the bell was about to ring, making her late. But walking through the doorway of the classroom without the bell going off calmed her. One more tardy and she would receive a detention. Caroline Bell popped out of her chair and slid into Amy’s way. Her usual bubbly attitude was bursting from her every pore. Caroline hugged Amy and smiled up at her. “Heyyyyyyy girlie!” Caroline walked along side Amy walking to the other side of the class to her seat. “Hey” Amy replied and sat in her seat, Caroline sitting on her lap. Amy couldn’t help but laugh. Her and Caroline claimed to be dating, but they were both straight, and they weren’t really dating.
